Steve Jolley spoke of a Nelson Turner: His father was Nelson Turner who was born about 1808 in Rutherford Co., NC. I've looked at the Rutherford Co. census records for 1810 and 1800 and suspect that either Matthias or Samuel Turner, Jr. might be his father. I have long been looking for some Nelson Turners of my own. Mine was born about 1797 in Chesterfield, VA and I suspect had a son named Nelson sometime around 1830. There is some confusion in family records about wives that leads me to believe there were two. Nelson, b ca 1797, appears to be buried in Henderson co KY next to a woman named Mary Lee Winston, and marriage (and family) records show Nelson married an Amanda McKinney in KY, being buried in Marianna, AR! The dates show that the McKinney marriage took place 3 years before Mary Lee Winston died, therefore there must have been two Nelsons. (?) I believe there's a Nelson Turner line I still haven't found, and that he may have been involved in either the railroading, or timber industries, as were many of my other Turners of that time. Those Turner families were in NC, KY, AR round & about those times. Nelson is such an unusual name, I'm hoping someone will come up with some clues someday. Ring any bells?
