My English Turners (anybody recognize them?): James and Thomas, born 1832 and 1834, Lancashire England, supposedly in Bury, near Manchester, but I haven't been able to find their christening records yet. Other siblings possible. Parents Robert and Sarah. Possibly the Robert and Sarah (Schofield) married 1830 in Prestwich, Lancashire, England, but not established for certain. James and Thomas emigrated to the US in 1850, were cotton mill weavers in Providence, New Bedford, and Salem, MA, and fought in the Civil War out of the Rhode Island Volunteers. James settled and had family in Haverhill, MA. ********* I haven't been doing much with this line lately, due to frustration at lack of immediate success, but I plan to restart soon. For English research, I use my Family History Center. I've had great luck with other English lines, but then again, they emigrated later-- 1870s and 80s. I think it's tougher the earlier you go, especially if your last guy out was born pre-1837, which is when English Civil Registration started. Also, it depends how long your people stayed in one parish. If they moved around a lot, like my Industrial Revolution-worker Turners, then they become tougher to trace back.
