    1. RE: TURNER families listed for GA, Henry co in 1850 Fed Census
    2. Betty Faye Lawton
    3. There are four or five(all I've found so far) TURNER families listed in Henry county BUT the enumerator only listed them by initials....I did find MY Turners there...they are enumerated TWICE for 1850 as they moved to AL after they were counted in Henry county GA!The Henry co, GA census was on Sept 28, 1850 and the Barbour co,AL census was on the 18th of October, 1850!!! So mebbe your TURNERs are there IF you know the initials ......:-) It pays to check ALL states for your family in each Census..... 1. Re: [TURNER] Re: ROLLCALL: Wingate/Winguit/? M. TURNER dob ca.1801, GA>AL ***RE: SUBJECT LINE!!!!****
    2. Betty Faye Lawton
    3. PLEASE PEOPLE, if you are going to change the SUBJECT....... PLEASE CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE!!!! Here I had high hopes that you were replying about MY TURNER: Wingait/Wingate M. Turner and his wife, Laura C. ...only to see you have gone off on your OWN TURNERs!!! Which is OK... IF you change the SUBJECT LINE!!!!!! Since these are the ONLY TURNERs I have in ALL my genealogy...I DO NOT HAVE any relatives to ask for DNA!!! These TURNERs are in my genealogy ONLY because my paternal 2nd GGF William HOLT m. Jane TURNER, dau. of Wingate & Laura C. TURNER! And the two families were close. In the 1850 Barbour co, AL Census was: "Next door to them in House #1034 was a Wingate M. Turner, 49 yr. old male born in GA; Laura C. Turner, 42 yr. old female born in North Carolina; Charles A. Turner, 11 yr. old male born in GA; and Jane M. Holt(Jane Mariah, I think), 15 yr. old female born in GA." So Jane had a brother, Charles A. TURNER who was 11 yrs old in 1850 in AL, who was born in GA. I did find a Charles H. TURNER in the 1930 Clayton, Barbour co, AL Census.....but his dob was ca. 1875 and he was listed as 55yrs old....if this was the same Charles who was Jane's brother, then he should be abt. 80 yrs old not 55.... I'll just keep lookin'....... BFaye On Wednesday, Jul 19, 2006, at 17:49 US/Eastern, vjadams@att.net wrote: > Hi, > It appears that David Turner that I mention does have a brother named > Samuel. 1. Re: [TURNER] Re: ROLLCALL: Wingate/Winguit/? M. TURNER dob ca.1801, GA>AL
    2. Jeanette, David and Samuel Turner were in Butler County. If you look at the actual images of the 1850 census, themselves, you will see at the top of the page it says Butler County even though they are indexed in Blount County. I've even seen references that they were indexed in the wrong county. I have copies of the land records in Butler County and have platted that land. The Posey's were there next door to them also and James H Turner, a son of David and my husbands great grandfather, married Melvona/Melvina Posey in Butler County. James H. and Melvona were in Lowndes County in 1870. I no longer found either Samuel or David in Alabama after 1850 but found a David Turner and Sarah, ages the same, in Grimes County, Texas and then James H. and Melvona were there by 1871. When I work on this family I feel like a rat in a maze. I'm sorry I didn't mention the county thing and should probably do that when I speak of this family in Alabama from now own. 1. Turners buried at Corner, AL
    2. Sarah Lingwall
    3. I recently visited the cemetery at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Corner, AL (Jefferson County) where my great-grandparents, William Burl Turner and Marietta Pace Turner are buried. Also in that cemetery (and I don't know of a connection to my Turners) are: Parkes Turner (1878-1899); Carrie Turner (1882-1900); Ruby Turner (1896-1897);Arnolton Turner (Feb 23, 1920-Mar. 11, 1920); James M. Turner (May 9, 1853-Jul 1, 1934) and on the same stone, Rhoda A. Turner (July 22, 1861-May 24, 1948); Emmit Turner (Sept 30, 1880-Mar 1, 1974); Eliza Tanner Turner (June 12, 1864-Apr. 29, 1947); Odessa Turner (1895-1986) and on same stone E. Jesse Turner (1885-1964); and finally, Ozell Turner (Sep 4, 1914-Oct 29, 1939). As I said, as far as I know none of these are related to my Turners but, since they are in the same cemetery and some are actually very near my Turners, there may be a connection so if anyone recognizes them, please tell me who they belong to--it might help with my brick wall, William Beverly Turner of Cobb Co., GA, who is father to the William Burl Turner mentioned here. 2. Is there a Henry B. Turner b. NC in this bunch of Turners? Henry moved to GA, married Martha, and by the 1850s he was in Alachua Co. FL. Since I don't have my papers with me, I am guessing the birth year but think it was 1803. Nora

    2. Hi, It appears that David Turner that I mention does have a brother named Samuel. They were next door neighbors in Butler County, Alabama in 1850. They purchased farms next to each other. This Samuel was fifty-three years of age (born approx. 1797) in 1850 and was married to Emily, Age 35 (born about 1815 in North Carolina. Their children were Elizabeth born about 1833; Martha born about 1837; Julie Ann born about 1838; William born about 1840; James born about 1841; Wiley born about 1844; Washington born about 1847; and Zachary born about 1849. This Samuel and Emily MNU would have married in North Carolina prior to 1830 when their daughter Elizabeth was born in North Carolina. Their first three children were born in North Carolina. This Samuel was in Alabama between 1838 and 1840. I'm still looking for where this Samuel went when he left Butler County, Alabama. It gets so frustrating trying to match all these people. 3. Valerie, Interesting! Wondering about connections to my Samuel. Samuel Turner, born 1812 SC arrived in TX 1837 married 1839 to Emily Midkiff in Nacogdoches Co, TX 1850 Jasper Co, TX census 1860 Trinity Co, TX census Emily's family lived in Grimes Co, TX. Wondering if there could be any ties to these Turners? Family stories about family back in AL but never have had any proof of these stories so always wondered where the story came from about AL. Here's a story proven untrue. The family said Moses Turner traded his land with Samuel Houston Turner in Trinity Co, TX for a wagon and "went back to AL." Well, Moses is on the Trinity Co, TX census records until death but there was a family feud over some land. But what about the story about AL? Could there have been family in AL? Could the ones who ended up in Grimes Co, TX be related? I know the Midkiff is mispelled on census for 1850/60. I think it is spelled Medcliff or something like that. Other names related to the Midkiff would be Plaster, Bean, Howell. Do you find any of those near your Turners? vjadams@att.net wrote: I have a brick wall Turner. My proven Turner is James H. 3. There are two groups of Turners I am hoping someone will volunteer for the DNA testing. This would determine if we are related and seems likely that one will match. One is Madison Turner out of Warren Co, TN who moved to Jasper Co, TX and the other is Littleton Turner out of Barnwell Co,SC who moved to Angelina/Trinity Co, TX. DNA saves you from searching on the wrong family line for years like I did. I just knew that John Turner who ended up in Orange Co, TX had to be related somehow but DNA testing confirmed otherwise. I have tried hard to gather as much as possible but could use a boost over this "brick wall". My grgrgrgrgrandmother was Mary Elizabeth Williams, a widow with two children (Malkijah & Teresa)who married Winslow Turner,Jr. BEF 1811 in Lincoln County, Missouri. They traveled to DeWitt's Colony abt.1828. Thank you to all who may have info. to share. Sheryl ----------- MY GREATGREATGREATGRANDFATHER: WILLIAMS. Malkijah Williams also spelled Malkyah and referred to as "Lige" Williams in some accounts arrived in the DeWitt Colony on 1 Aug 1830 as a single man and received title to a quarter sitio on 20 Nov 1831 according to colony land records. William's tract was on the west bank of the Lavaca River on the current border of Lavaca and Jackson counties and except for that of John Jones, the southernmost grant in the DeWitt Colony. The record of his marriage to Cynthia Ann Burns in 1837 is among the earliest marriage records in current JacksonCo archives (Malkyah Williams and Cynthis Ann Burns). Cynthia also written Cynthianne and "Synthia" in some records was born 7 July 1813 and was the daughter of Arthur Burns, one of the earliest settlers in the DeWitt Colony. The Williams lived in Lavaca Co and according to some Cynthia helped Evaline DeWitt design and make the "Come and Take It" flag of Gonzales. --- Source:1828 DeWitt Colony Biographies The Lista de los Havitantes de la Colonia de DeWitt en el Departmento de Texas 1828 SONS OF DEWITT COLONY TEXAS © 1997-2005, Wallace L.
