Peni, Is the line you are wondering about connected in any way to the following? Unknown (William? or Thomas?) d 1857-60 m Lacy Wadford/Watford George William Turner b 3/21/1857 Dale Co. AL d 10/15/1906 Baldwin Co. GA m Georgiann Smith George Manuel Turner b 9/5/1890 Henry Co. AL d 7/7/1978 Holmes Co. FL m Hattie Mahala Dykes If so, we have a descendant of this branch documented in the Turner DNA Project. Kit #40323. He listed the widow's name as Lacy rather than Lucy and did not know (or have proof at least) of her husband's name but had speculated that it was likely a William or Thomas Turner. Hi Peni, I found a lead for you. RootsWeb reports a Thomas Turner who married Lucy Watford (b. 1863). Go to http://wc.rootsweb.com/ and search for Thomas Turner (spouse = Watford). There is vey little information about them though. You will have to email Sharon Turner, the contact person, to learn more about them. Lisa, That was me. As I've pointed out to Gail, it is easy to convert the results chart from Word to a format that loads much faster and contains the same information and colors. I've also pointed out that in addition to the Word-generated results pages, the Turner DNA Project page could include a link to the FamilyTree DNA-generated results page for the Turner DNA Project. The FamilyTree DNA page would load much faster than the Word-generated page, and would include all 67 markers. Adding that link would only take a few minutes. Janice, Right now I can't expand the table to include markers 38-67 since our results chart is done with Word which has a limitation on number of columns. I will need to work with the man who does our website to see if there is a way to make an additional table of results to show markers 38-67. I will e-mail you privately a results chart that I have made up of markers 38-67 for the ones that have tested to that level--not many at this point. Gail R. Congratulations Sandra. My family's having taken the DNA testing sure has saved me a lot of wasted time and effort. I was just certain that John Turner of Orange Co, TX and Samuel Turner of Trinity Co, TX just had to be related. Well, the DNA test proved otherwise so I stopped looking there and now I know where to look and for whom and what areas. I have been able to determine there were quite a few cousins of my Samuel in Texas the same time as him. I was ordered to this place on the 16th Inst. to take charge of and protect a pork establishment here of 21 or 22 thousand hogs how long we will remain here I cant tell our Regt. is scattered along the R. Road from Carter County to Chattanooga guarding pork houses & Bridges. Why we have been thus disposed of I cant tell unless its our unarmed condition three companies of the Regt. has the old common Rifles & muskets that was taken up from the people the Ballance has muskets but of an inferor article Col. GILLESPIE had made arrangments at Nashville for our arms but the times in that direction has been too ticklesh to let army leave that locality for some time and no chance now. no news from the Gap for some time there has some 4 Regts. left here for that place in the last 3 or 4 days but the waters has been so high they no doubt have made slow speed. My husband's gg grandfather, Richard F. Liles, died from wounds received at the Battle of Franklin, TN. Richard was married to Pheba L. Turner, daughter of Rev. Lorenzo Dow and Judah McDonald Turner of the Shiloh Community in northeast MS. On April 20, 1862, Company H, the "Itawamba Tigers", 43rd Mississippi Infantry was organized under the leadership of Captain Merriman Pound. This unit was also called "Pounds Sharpshooters". Richard and three of Pheba's brothers - Allen, Alfred, and Francis Turner joined at that time. Lucinda, Pheba's sister was married to Isaac Young and he also joined this unit. The unit saw action at the Battle of Corinth, the Battle of Vicksburg, and the Battle of Franklin, TN. The 43rd MS Infantry was in Adam's Brigade, Loring's Division, Stewart's Corps and began their attack on the Federal Army entrenched at Franklin on November 30, 1864, from the vicinity of the Carnton Mansion. The Confederate wounded from that battle were initially treated at the Carnton Mansion where a field hospital had been set up. Richard was among that number. In the days that followed, those who could be transported were removed first to Columbia, TN, where they were cared for in temporary convalescent hospitals set up for that purpose. Richard was again among that number. Whether the move was too much for him or infection set in is not known, but Richard died in one of those hospitals and is buried in a Confederate plot in Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia, TN. Gail, Stepping stones to larger projects. This is going to be interesting. I work fulll-time but I do go to the history library about 3 times per week during lunch if there's anything you want me to look up for you quickly. Viewing census images would be too long for a lunch break but I can take a look in counties for wills, etc. "Gail R. Blancett" <ablancett@atlantic.net> wrote: At the request of some of our 244 members, I have decided to officially expand the stated focus of our Turner DNA Project to include any Turner line wishing to document their DNA signature and find other Turners who are genetic cousins regardless of where their known ancestor's roots might have been. The project has grown dramatically since it was begun back in 2002 and we now have several lines tested who were outside the originally stated geographic region. Several of our mid-Atlantic and Southern families are now documented to a confirmed immigrant and they are looking beyond the borders of the American Colonies for their roots back across the pond, as the expression goes. Our Australian and New Zeland members are also searching for their roots back in the UK and Scotland. Today I changed the stated purpose of our Turner DNA Project and welcome any Turner line which wishes to document their Turners. While this will mean that I will not be able to assist on research or document by census searches any lines joining us with roots in the UK or beyond as I have done for the US branches, I hope that this broadened scope will allow everyone to gain a wider group of researchers on related lines so they may share research. It will be imperative that I receive a lineage outline like we use on our project website ancestor lists which gives the Turner ancestors' names, date and locations for date of birth and death, and spouse name if known (being sure it is the correct spouse for the next generation if the husband had more than one spouse). Because the format usually used in the US versus the UK for dates is different, I ask that you be sure I can tell which format you are using to avoid errors. When Nancy Grogan started the project and our website, she began using the American format which I have continued. As a reminder, our Turner DNA Project website is at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~turnerdna/ Any member tested must be a male Turner but a female may order a test to be used by one of her male Turner relatives--cousin, Uncle, brother, father. To join us, click on the word "Join" on the left of the screen at the home page for a secure link to order the test kit. I would prefer to see everyone start at the Y-DNA25 marker test but I know for some people cost is a factor. If a Y-DNA12 marker test is ordered, if a match is found, I will ask that you upgrade to more markers before I can add you to a group. It is known from years of testing on common surnames that a 12 marker test could indicate a match but when more markers are tested there would be too many markers which did not match to indicate a relationship that was genealogically significant. A match at 12 markers could indicate a common ancestor that was back before the use of surnames was adopted. If you have any questions, please e-mail me off list. I am somewhat limited as to what I can post regarding testing company, costs, etc. The information is on our website however. Gail R.
