    1. [TURNER-L] JAMES AND NATHAN TURNER, SC, TN
    2. frankie
    3. I am new to the list so here's my pitch: James TURNER was born c. 1798, living in Fentress Co., TN next to Nathan TURNER, born c. 1803. James married Jane HOOD from VA and had at least 2 sons, Pinkney (1833) and Andrew Jackson (1838), and a daughter, Nice (1840). James and Nathan were both from South Carolina. Andrew Jackson TURNER married Kisiah SMITH, daughter of George and Polly SMITH of Fentress Co TN. They had George Washington (1857), Polly Jane (1859), James (1861), John (1864), Thomas T (1869), Charlotta (1868), Minerva (1870), Calvin B (1872), Andrew (1875), Margaret (1877), Nicey Belle (1879), and Daily (1881). The family moved to Cumberland Co TN in the 50s. George W. married Martha HICKSON, daughter of William and Eliza Hickson of Greene Co TN and had George W. (1880), Duran (1883), Mary Jane (1885), John C. (1886), Hattie H. (1887), Harrison (1889), Martin (1891), Thomas T. (1893) and Elma (1894). The family moved to Washington State in 1892 and Harrison married Lottie MACK (1892), daughter of Melvin and Celinda MACK of Iowa. Harry and Lottie had Agnes (1916), Stella (1918), Harry (1919), Fred (1922) and Frances Mable (1924). Hopefully, this will ring a bell for someone or somebody has a Will book or land records they can do a look up for me. Researching TURNER, MACK, HICKSON, SMITH, HOOD, MAST, MISCHLER, BURKE Family trees can be seen at this site-- http://home.sprintmail.com/~drphyllis/trees Frankie

VA starts this family Shadrack, owned 4400 acres, brothers Meshack, and Abednego all moved to Pittsylvania Co., VA. Shadrack dies in Henry co in 1783, leaving widow Ann. Meshack married Rebecca Robertson in Halifax in 1760. They go back to Isle of Wight turners. If you think you are from this family and do not know the information have your library call for this book. Other names mentioned in connection for this family are 1767 Edward and Shadrack and his sons John and Josiah - Larkin, Jeremiah, William married a Jane, d of Wm Hunter,, Elizabeth, Mary, and Exeony. Halifax, Pittsylvania, Henry, Franklin Co. VA and Wilkes Co. and Lincoln co. GA. 1782 tax list names Henry co. Willis, Josiah, John, Jams, Daniel Turner, Abednego. Shadrack's will 1783/84 in Henry co names wife Ann and children Larkin, Jeremiah, wm, Exeony, John, Josiah, Mary Hunter, and other kinsmen. Stewart's notes are hard to read and I will continue this another time. It skips from one county and area to another. BUt this is a wonderful book. If you don't have it, purchase it if you trace early GA families. Have your library purchase it. Deana Dcost@compuserve. com

    1. [TURNER-L] TURNER, Bessie L., b.13-Oct-1864, TN > KY > TX
    2. Hi fellow Rooters - Searching for any information on my paternal grandmother Bessie Lee TURNER and her husband, my grandfather, Thomas A. PRICE - especially any information on their ancestors or possible siblings, and exactly where in Tennessee she was born. Thomas A. PRICE b. 26-Apr-1862 Russellville, Logan Co., KY d. 01-Mar-1943 Abilene, TX Bessie Lee TURNER b. 13-Oct-1864 Tennessee d. 23-Nov-1941 Abilene, TX Records show that they were married on 19-Sep-1883 in Sumner Co., TN. They moved to Abilene, TX on 24-Dec-1894. Although census files and his obituary show that Thomas was born in Logan Co., KY, whenever asked, my father, John E. Price, Sr., always told people he and his father, Thomas, were from Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY. Thomas' Census listing inTexas verifies my grandmother, Bessie, to have been born in Tennessee, and her tombstone confirmed the vital dates. Her death certificate did not show the first name of either of her parents, only that her mother's maiden name was TRIBUE. But that name is so unusual I can't help wondering if it is possibly a misspelling or a variant of TRABUE, a French Huguenot family name. Her obituary gave no other information not already known, and shown here. A very helpful fellow rooter found her marriage records and we learned for the first time her middle name was Lee. Her tombstone shows a middle initial of T, but that is probably for Turner. Other middle initials have been used in various records, but no name was ever shown. Have hit that well known brick wall on finding any information about either of their parents or siblings. As always, will appreciate any and all information and will be happy to share. John E. Price (Jr.) Ft. Worth, TX

Would the individual who was looking for a particular Helms and contacted me via personal address, requesting my help... could you send it again. It has been a while back, but mine is a paper database therefore it took a bit of time to research and then all that keyboard entry. Hope you can appreciate the time required to break out a branch family so that it can be reproduced... All that to excuse time it has taken. It will probably take 10 to 15 pages to print out and contains info on living, therefore cannot post as a "rtf" file as with Wood. If you know you're the one referred to, send msg. _Mitosis_

    1. [TURNER-L] Re: TURNERS in Charles/St Mary's Co MD
    2. Steve Roper
    3. The Turners in Charles Co MD that I have are as follows. I have not traced all of the male lines, and I do not have your John William in my notes anywhere. Ditto with the Chunns...their lines that stayed in MD I have not traced because my own line came to Fauquier Co VA. Samuel Turner SR of Turner's Forest left a will in Charles Co MD in 1746. He was the son of Edward Turner whose will was proved in St Mary's Co MD in 1709 and his 3rd wife Mary Smith. I have seen two wills which could be the father of EDWARD: William Turner, who had a son Edward named in his will in Calvert Co 1663, and Arthur Turner, who also left a son Edward. Samuel married Lydia Dent, dau of Capt John Dent and Mary Hatch. Their children as far as I have them: 1. Edward c1701-1772 m Elenor Wilson and had 12 children 2. John 3. Samuel c1702-1764 m Verlinda McPherson...this is my line 4. Micha 5. Ruth 6. Bernard Samuel Turner JR and Verlinda McPherson had these children: 1. Hezekiah 1739-c1817 m Henrietta Chunn...he went to VA 2. DEBORAH (my line) 1744-aft 1809 m Zachariah Chunn 3. Martha 1748-1831 m John Thomas Chunn...they had no children 4. Mary E 1750-1828 m Capt John Ashby 5. Zephania 1737-1794 m Mary Beale 6. Samuel the 3rd 1752- 7. Dorcas 1741-aft 1778 m #1 Joseph Dyson #2 Henry Clarkson 8. Anna 1749-1827 m George Adams Samuel married #2 aft Verlinda died Mary Beale...one son John Beale Turner I do not know what happened to Samuel the 3rd...he is not in his father's will but is listed as a son in the Parish Records...I do not know if he died young. Hezekiah, the only son with a Chunn connection, and his wife Henrietta had a son Samuel, born Sept 1766 and died c 1705 in Frederick Co VA who married Jane Cookesy, also a son Andrew who married Ann Adams, a son John who dsp, son Zephania who m Sallie Conner. 3. I have a John William Turner, born May 11, 1797 in Maryland. He came to Wilkes County, Georgia around 1815 with Amos Chunn. I have traced Amos Chunn back to Charles County, Maryland. He shows up in the Charles County, Maryland, Trinity Parish census in 1800 and 1810. He was listed on the same page as a Samuel Turner, Jr. who was born between 1765 & 1784. He has a male listed with him as being born 1794 - 1800 which could be John William Turner. I have no further information as to the parentage of John William Turner and why he came to Georgia with Amos Chunn. John William Turner (sometimes known as William) is found in the Wilkes County, Georgia census in 1820. He was also in Merriwether County, Georgia with Amos Chunn in 1830. That is the last time he shows up in a census, but I have his 2nd wife (widow) and children in Oglethorpe County, Georgia census and other children In Elbert County, Georgia. I have most of the blanks filled in from there. The children of John William Turner are: Robert Hughes Turner, James Edward Turner, John William Turner, Jr, Valentine(Vol) Turner, Mary Elizabeth Turner, Samuel S. Turner (killed at Cold Harbor in Civil War), Mary Frances Turner, George Washington Turner (my line), and Martha A.(Mattie) Turner. If anyone can help me find the parentage of John William Turner, I will be extremely grateful..
