    1. [TURNER-L] Re: John Turner 1738
    2. Hi Anita, Thank you for responding so quickly. Yes, I am on the Turner list; and I was just going through the list archives today. I found alot of interesting info. but some of it doesn't agree with itself (i.e., having children in their 60's etc). But, some thought provoking stuff. I'm starting to think that this John (1738-1813) may be one of mine. (i.e., John 3; below) The following is my line. I hope you recognize someone. (I've got some peculiar names like; Wyndham and Talton). 1. ? 2. John Turner 2. Thomas Turner 2. William Wyndham Turner 3. John Turner 4. Philip Turner b. 1762 Raleigh, Wake Co., NC + Abigail Hickman b. 1768 5. Talton Turner b. Nov. 02, 1791 Raleigh, Wake Co., NC + Sallie Small Earickson b. Apr. 22, 1802 Jefferson Co., KY 6. Eliza Jane Turner b. 1822 MO. + Elijah Robertson Pullium + John Dietz Perry May 15, 1815 Hampshire Co., VA d. Aug. 24, 1895 St. Louis, MO. (My Line) 6. Benjamin Turner 6. Richard Earickson Turner 6. Henry Atkinson Turner 6. Mary Ann Turner 6. Eleanor Turner + Benjamin W. Lewis 6. Gustavus Turner 6. Rebecca Susan Turner + ? Lewis 6. William Turner 6. John Hickman Turner b. Jun. 9, 1837 Howard Co., MO. + Bettie Jackson 6. Abigail Turner This is the line that was handed down to me. I now am trying to confirm it and add to it. Any additions, corrections or references ? Some of the info from the list archive's made me think. I found a post stating a William Wyndham Turner Sr. and his son William Wyndham Turner Jr. got to thinking maybe John 3 above was actually the same guy as John 2 and their father may still be a William Wyndham Turner. Because, this old family letter that I have states that 3 brothers emigrated from England to NC and fought in the Revolution (i.e., John, Thomas and William). Thanks for your time, BOB PERRY

    3. seeking leads on Thomas Turner, b 1811, SC. Named his sons: (oldest) Kinyon, Andrew J, George W, Francis M, then Thomas *M*, Noah L, Lewis C, and William. Daughter: Sarah E. Kinyon named HIS oldest son Thomas M, but I don't know what the "M" Stands for. Thomas moved to Fayette Co, GA in the early 1820's, and a James served as agent for Thomas and Silas. There is a Thomas Turner, age 76, with wife Rebecca, and 14 yr old Rebecca in neighboring Campbell Co, GA. There are several Turners there from SC, all of ages to be Thomas' brothers/nephews. Thomas m Lucinda Wilkinson in Fayette Co, 1830. They moved to Polk Co GA for the 1860 census, after the WNA, when George W and Andrew J were killed, and Kinyon severly wounded (was in the hospital for 16 months) the rest of the family disappears from Polk Co, and Kinyon and his family move back to Fayette. Ideas, anyone? Unable to find wills, intestate records, and Polk County is a "burned" county....Thanks

In looking through the book Old Homes of Hanover County Virginia, no author I found the following Turners p. 13 - California or Laurel Hill ...The earliest proven owner was Thomas Turner whose will was probated in 1842... I devise my farm and plantation upon which I now reside to my nephew Henry M. Turner...Henry was living there in 1850 with wife Ann Maria and had a daughter Mary E. Turner who married Russell J. Dickerson. In 1860 Henry coveyed to Dickerson. In 1886, dickerson has died and his widow divided the property between John B. Dickerson, son and his wife Ann Bell (Ladd) and Ada B. Dickerson Taliaferro and her husband Thomas A. Taliaferro. p. 18 Eastern View earliest owner was 1809, James Power Webb, at his death land went to Richard G. Smith who lived for nearly 30 years there. He died in 1853. The next owner was Thomas G. Turner who married Margaret A. Via, daughter of Gilson Via. - were living there during the Civil War. p. 34 In 1682 David Crafford patented 1,2216 acrees adjoining the lands of Sir Phillip Honywood, Moses Davies, Thomas Glass, and James Turner. He also lived in MS. >> There are several of us stuck at this point. Does anyone know where I >> might go from here? I have never done research except in the U.S. >> K. Cotten, TX An interesting question. At least you have an unusual givenname to start with, unlike me who has been trying to disentangle my William Turner, coal manager in Oxford, for several years. I would advise you, given the 1810 birthdate and the givenname, to try the IGI (International Genealogical Index), on both microfiche and CD-ROM, and developed by the LDS (Latter Day Saints). In Melbourne here, I can access this thru' by local LDS library or thru' the genealogical part of my central city library. Hopefully, this might suggest to you which English counties (with the appropriate parishes) might be possibilities. Then, I would make a bee-line for the OPR (Old Parochial Record) for each parish, which is on LDS microfilm, and can be ordered into any LDS library for use at that library. After much work, I'm sure you'll track Reuben and his parents down. If he was still around in England at 1841, then you have the census records (commencing in 1841 and continuing every ten years) to use. Best of luck, and if you strike my William, I'm sure you'll let me know. _________________________________________________ Dr Frank Whillans <whillans@netspace.net.au> "Coranderk" 47 The Righi, Eaglemont Melbourne Victoria 3084 Australia Telephone 03-9457-2893 (local), +613-9457-2893 (overseas)
