Hello to all. Two things: when you place queries or information, please don't forget to tell what state and county or counties are involved, for instance there are many Thomas Turners and I am------ *still* looking for Thomas TURNER, b SC ca 1811, appeared in Fayette Co with "James as agent for Thomas and Silas" in the early tax digests; m Lucinda Wilkins, 1830 Fayette Co;there until ?, appears in Polk Co, GA, Van Wert Dist., 1860 census. Oldest son Kinyon moves back to Fayette co with his family, Thomas, Lucinda & other children (except George W and Andrew J, who are killed in the WONA) just dissapear. Where did these folks go, and where in SC did he come from? Is he related to the Thomas Turner, age 76 in 1850, next county over (Campbell), and is he related to the other TURNERs who appear in Fayette & Campbell County (some of whom married Wilkins women), all from SC? Thanks for any ideas...

I am searching for any information on Turpin Turner born about 1856 in Jackson County Kentucky. This Turpin Turner is the son of (John?) William Turner and Rhoda Haley. Turpin married Mary Allen January 15, 1896, in Richmond County, Kentucky. Turpin and Mary Allen had the following children: Ballard, Millard, Robert, Margaret, Maude Betty, Rhoda Eller, Addie Helen and Turpin, Jr. Turpin and Mary Allen moved from Kentucky to Ohio, to Indiana then back to Ohio where Turpin died August 5, 1931. There is family rumor and suspicion that Turpin, Sr., may have had a family before Mary Allen as he was 20 years her senior. Any information or leads on Turpin or his parents (John?) William Turner and Rhoda Haley would be greatly appreciated.

PLEASE circulate, at least the address of the FAMILY SEARCH, to any roots-l you may belong (to) so that the LDS will consider to keep it running." ----Original Message----- From: Virginia Ewing [mailto:vewing@ctesc.net] Sent: Monday, March 01, 1999 5:00 PM Subject: LDS FAMILY SEARCH COMING SOON As the director of a LDS Family History Center, I have received a notice from Salt Lake LDS FHL, announcing the Beta testing of Family Search on line. It is not yet up, a problem with a piece of equipment, but will be starting sometimes this month and will be up only a few weeks as a test run. If there is not a lot of interest it will be taken off and not put back on. So spread the word and keep trying to get through. When it comes on line the URL will be: > www.familysearch.org <. I have not been told exactly what will be available but know at least the Ancestral File and Family History Library Catalog will be included. Family Search is the name of the program we have on CDs in all LDS FHCs. Some public libraries also have this program. FS includes the IGI, Ancestral File, Family History Library Catalog, Social Security Death Records, Koran and Vietnam war death records, and Scottish Church Records. For those of you not familiar with the various searches, the IGI is the International Genealogical Index. It includes, in alphabetical order, all of the names that have been sent to the Temples to have ordinances performed in their name. Names in the IGI are usually submitted by members, but not always. Non-members also submit their family names to get them into the IGI. Some of the marriages may have been part of extraction programs. The names were taken from courthouse records and checked and rechecked by several volunteers before being accepted as correct. Most people do try to send in accurate information but there are many mistakes. My advice is, always check the original source. Use the IGI to find where people with your surname would have lived and order the census and court records from that area. Ancestral File is Gedcoms of group and pedigree sheets sent in by members and non-members. The name and address of the submitter is included and hopefully will allow you to contact others working on your line. If the address is out of date sometimes a letter to the Membership dept. in Salt Lake will get you a correct address if the person was a member of the LDS church. Once again, the material is only as good as the research that went into it and some of it is pretty bad. Check it out before you 'adopt' it. If you find a mistake on Ancestral File, you can send in your corrections, along with your sources of proof, and it will be noted in the next update. The first submitter does not have to provide proof, but you do, if you are making a correction. You can add additions to a file, or submit a new file. You do not have to be a member to submit material. The Family History Library Catalog is a listing of every book, film and fiche available at the Salt Lake City LDS Family History Library. This allows us to find what is available for each locality, world-wide. It includes the FHL call numbers and a description of what is included in the film/fiche or book. The material from the books and film/fiche will not be on line. That is not something they can do, at this time. Hopefully it will be a possibility some time in the distant future. The film and fiche will still have to be ordered through FHC. Microfilm and microfiche are the property of the FHL and are sent into the care of the LDS FHC director and must remain under her/his care until returned. For this reason they are never allowed to be taken from the LDS FHC. Almost all of the microfilm and microfiche at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City can be ordered into any LDS FHL, anywhere in the world, but there are a few exceptions. Copyright laws prevent them from using material without the written consent of the owner. Some of the film and fiche where filmed by companies other than the LDS Church and permission to circulate these film to LDS FHCs has been denied. There will be a notice included in the description, saying it can not be circulated. Many of the SC microfilm where made by a company who has refused permission to allow the film to be circulated, but there are many microfilm available for SC, some covering the same material that is on the restricted film. The LDS FHL is a non-profit organization, and that is why it still cost only 15 cents a sheet for a microfiche, $3.25 plus tax to rent a microfilm for a month [may be more in other countries] and the SourceGuide and other home use programs are sold at such a reasonable price. We aren't allowed to make a profit, even in the FHCs. The books that are listed are not loaned out but can sometimes be obtained through an Inter-library loan through your public library. You can request copies of pages and if a book is indexed, by ordering the index you can see if your people would have been listed. In cases where the copyright has expired the book may have been filmed or can be filmed upon request. Never hurts to ask. C. Turner came from South Carolina with his family. No specific location in South Carolina was given. Fayette County Genealogy Book "1821- 1971" reflects some information on the Turners. The will of Moses T. Turner is recorded in Fayette County Probate Court, pages 359-360. The will was executed on May 6, 1865, probated February 7, 1867. The will names sons, Moses and Henson, son-in-law Eli Quick, and mentions other children, but does not name them. The executor was Henson Turner, Moses T. Turner's, son. On page 586 of the above referenced book the following information appears: Henson Turner, executor of the estate of Moses Turner, deeded on December 15, 1880 two (2) acres in Land Lot 11 of the 5th District to New Hope Methodist Episcopal Church and the deed states: "in consideration of his desire to promote the welfare of the Church and in the dissemination of religious truth, as well as in consider- ation of $10.00 is paid in hand....." Deed records reflect that Moses Turner owned 190 acres of land in Land Lot 11 District 5, Fayette County. The following information was found as to Henson's children: Mary Jane Turner: She is referred to in the aforementioned book as Mary Harp Turner, born 1851, died December 7, 1908, buried Inman. She married Dock Wesley Stubbs and he was the son of Rowland and Jane Turner Stubbs. Wesley was born about 1851. They were married in Fayette Co. on 6/26/1870. Their children were: _____________________ Drucilla, daughter of Moses T. C. Turner married Eli Quick, June 14, 1828, in Fayette County, GA. The Turners and Quicks came from SC according to GA census records. It is thought they came to GA from Marlsboro CO, SC. Pardon me...I tried to forward an e-mail from another rootsweb list and I implied the person who sent the letter was myself. It was not. ----Original Message----- From: Cindy Courtier [mailto:ccourtier@russreid.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 02, 1999 12:28 AM To: ROBERTSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: LDS Family History Website
The site is at:http://lds-online.com/family.htm An article from the Global Gazette in February says: LDS Family History Library WebSite in 1999 Rumors are flying about the possibility that the Family History Library in Salt Lake City might be starting a website. It's true. Curt Witcher, a director of GENTECH, attended their annual conference recently in Utah and came back with details about this long-awaited site. He shared them with me. The site will begin sometime in the second quarter of this year. Its name will be FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Services. FamilySearch is the copyright name of their CD-ROM genealogical indexes. This might make you think that these indexes will be available at the site, but this is not so. I know that many people will be disappointed that the International Genealogical Index and Ancestry File will not be included initially on the site... The online site will have the Family History Library Catalog. This is not the same as the version at the family history centers. It will be considerably enhanced. As well as author, title and LDS film number, it will include place names, surnames, keywords and subjects, all in searchable fields. This means that for the first time, researchers will be able to use the Family History Library catalog in the same way they use online library catalogs elsewhere (in public or academic libraries). The flexibility of the catalog will mean that we can find more books and films, more easily. The big question for most people who live far from Salt Lake (or even far from a branch family history center) is: when will the other FamilySearch options be included on the website. No decisions have been made about this yet. As I mentioned in my last column, the Genealogical Society of Utah, the family history arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has now begun a publications program selling sets of CD-ROMs on particular topics. I mentioned a six-disk set of British vital records indexes. Witcher informs me there are also sets of Australian Vital Records (price US$5.00) and United States Vital Records (price US$15.00). At the moment I am unsure exactly what is on these. Other projected series to be made available soon are vital records sets for Continental Europe, Latin America and Scandinavia, Ellis Island immigration records, the 1880 U.S. census and the 1881 British census (scheduled for summer 1999). The latter will be grouped in regions, but there will also be a nation-wide index.
Good Morning, My TURNER family was living in Elkhart IN., by 1833, by 1834 they were selling their land and moving over to La Porte Co., IN. I am interested in learning about a James M. TURNER, who was also living in Elkhart at the same time. James received land patent 1831. His property adjoined my TURNER/BLAIR property. Greatly appreciate any help identifying James and thank you.
