Frankfort, Ky. Joel Jones was born approximately in 1785 and he owned 160 acres of land. Joel paid taxes from 1828 through 1832 in McMinn Co. Tenn. He served as a juror in Sept. 1827. He acquired a land grant in 1827 for the 160 acres mentioned previously. He held two estates sales, one in 1832 and was named on a debt note in 1841 along with Anderson Jones, Who may be Joel's son. William Jones was born in 1755 and lived near Joel Jones. William is possibly Joel's father. In the 1830 McMinn Co. Tenn. census, Joel was listed as having eight sons and one daughter. The oldest child was born around 1808 with the youngest born in 1830. The youngest child was Francis M. Jones and his brother Aaron Jones was born two years before him in 1828. In the 1840 census, the family no longer lived in Tenn. Neither the wife or the children's names were given in either census. Joel's wife likely died before he moved to Kentucky because there was a marriage to Sarah Turner on May 25, 1844 when Joel was 54 years of age. His son, Aaron , married Sarah's sister, Sidney Turner. In the 1850 Bell Co. census, Joel and Sarah were listed with their two children, Elizabeth J. and Joel Wiley Jones. In the 1870 census, Joel is listed as 81 years of age, Sarah is 56 and Wiley is 23. Elizabeth J. is declared to be married. Joel Jones died on Feb. 4, 1877. Aaron and Sidney (Turner) Jones lived next door to Joel and Sarah. Aaron and Sidney had one child in the 1850 Bell Co. census, the following children were listed: John Jones born in 1851, Mary Jones born in 1854, and David Jones born 1856. Also listed but unknown to whom they belonged was Speed well Turner, born 1854, John Turner, born 1856, Martha Turner, born 1860, and Margaret Turner born in 1865. In the 1910 Census Aaron is reported as deceased. Sidney is listed as Celia Jones, 78 years of age in the Bell Co. Census. Also declared was Speed Turner born in 1878 and his adopted son Dewey Turner, age 9, born in 1901. Joel Jones, was born in Tenn in 1789. He married Sarah Turner on May 25, 1844. Sarah was born in 1820. She is the daughter of Benjamin Turner born in 1781 in Tenn.;and Elizabeth Turner born in 1785 in Virginia. Joel was married before. Joel and Sarah had two children Elizabeth Jane Jones, and Wiley Joel Jones. Some said he used name of Wiley Jacob Jones. Elizabeth Jane Jones, was born in Kentucky in 1846. She Married Redin S. Rains who was born in 1832. He was the son of Ballinger Rains born 1806, and Margaret (Marsee) Rains born in 1807. Elizabeth J. and Redin Rains had three children in the 1870 census, Joel M. Rains was born 1866. Sarah Rains was born 1867 and Martha E. Rains was born 1868. Wiley Joel Jones, was born in Ky. in 1848. He is the son Joel and Sarah(Turner) Jones. Wiley married Syrilda Jane (Fortner)Evans, on August 12, 1880. Jane had a daughter Mary Evans in a previous marriage. Syrilda J. was the daughter of Henry and Anna Fortner. (Faulkner also) Henry was born in Vir. in 1819 and Anna was born 1825. Syrilda Jane was born in 1855. Wiley and Jane had two daughters Julie and Vinia Elizabeth Jones. Then they divorced. In the 1910 census. Wiley is found in the home of a neice Nancy Catherine (Jones) Marsee, who is the sister of John M. Jones(Blue Buck). Jane was found in the home of Mat and Julie Gibson, Her daughter. If anyone knows aything about this family, it would be deeply appreciated. Delilah

Bruce Turner was born in the late 1930's and Frank was also born about that time. Frank was the youngest of all the children. Bruce and his wife got married in the mid to late 1950's. I believe that Bruce and his wife were married a couple of years before there child Bruce Jr. was born. Bruce Sr.'s wife mentioned going to TN and staying with her mother-in-law. She said the sun came up later at their house because it was down in a 'hollow'! As best I can figure, the parents to all the children I mentioned before were born just before the turn of the century maybe just after. Mrs. Turner met the mother of the children but she died before Bruce Jr. could ever meet her. Bruce Jr. was born in 1957. --part0_921535693_boundary--

I hope you all enjoy them. The following is a transcription of two letters written by Lucinda Wesley Turner to her mother Sarah Hammond Wesley which mention her husband Elisha's father, Edward going to Henry county GA to live. When copies of these letters surfaced at the Archives, it was confirming evidence that the Edward Turner in Henry Co. in the 1830 GA Census was likely the same Edward Turner that was in the Pike/Meriwether Co. area of Ga later and the father of Elisha Turner and his brother James C. Turner, my ancestor. There is only one Edward Turner in the Census data in GA during those time periods. I have added a bit of punctuation for clerity, but have not altered the spelling as I received it. The nineteenth century southern terms take a bit of getting used to such as "the connectian" means "the extended family". And: Geo=Georgia; Up co=Upson county; no=know; sea=see; tolebul well =tolerably or fairly well; are=any; fetch=to take and bring back. I'll leave many others for yu to decipher. It is good practice. They were so sad an show us just how hard it was to keep up with their families. I am still searching for my Elizabeth Jane Turner dates unknown married to James Byrd Partin he was born about 1870 in Bell County, Kentucky. I was told James was a lot older than Elizabeth Jane and she was at least his 3rd wife. She died young because he took the 3 girls to McMinn Co., Tennessee and left them there and he went back to Pineville, Bell Co, Ky and died in 1922. She had 3 girls one was my Great Grandmother Margaret Bell Partin born Oct 4, 1893 in Pineville, Kentucky. She married George Washington Manery and had 9 children all born in McMinn Co., Tennessee, Margaret died in 1955 after complications from being hit by a truck. Any help would be appreciated. This is all the information I have on our line. The childrens names: Henry, Claude, Pless, Bruce, Frank, Ruth, Nina, Ches (Chess or Chester?). They were from the Morristown, TN area. Henry later lived somewhere in NC and owned a container factory. He and his wife had 2 boys and a girl we think. Ches lived in Ohio and had one daughter. Bruce joined the service and had one son, Frank lives in Ga and married Bruce's wifes sister. They had about 3 or 4 children. Ruth also lives/lived in Ga. The only living Turner from that generation is Frank and maybe Ruth. Any information on this clan would be appriciated. Thank you in advance, Mitzi M. Turner
I am searching for Frank Turner. He was married to Mary Elizabeth (Lizzy) Watts in the 1890's and early 1900's. In 1896, their son, Benjamin James Arthur Turner was born to them. Frank either died or they separated, leaving my grandfather, Ben and his three sisters orphans. Lizzy was married two or three times after Frank. She was located in Cairo, IL, married to a Kendall and had twin girls. (She was either too old to remember, or just wouldn't tell my grandfather about his dad, where he was buried or anything). So, all we know of my grandfather's dad is the name Frank. My grandfather was born in Hickman County, KY, as was Lizzy. I don't know where Frank came from or who his family was. If any of you have any information that might connect, I am willing to follow up on ANY AND ALL leads! Thank you very much, Joyce
