PJ Dennis wrote of Nelson Turner, born in 1782, Louden Co, VA. Our Nelson, b 1797, was the 4th generation of tobacco farmers from Henrico county, so I doubt there's a connection all the way up in Louden County. But the name NELSON raises flags........ The name Nelson pops up in our line right out of the blue with no prior family or person with the same name. We lose track of our guy in KY so haven't been able to determine if there were other Nelsons in the line. It just struck me that Lord Admiral Horation Nelson was well known because of his heroics in the Napoleonic Wars then, and that may account for so many incidences of such an unusual given name at that time. Does anyone have any insight/information into this theory? Hi, I don't know if you looked at the 1880 census for Bell County, but in the 1880 Census- Ed #6 Household #61. This is how Francis Owens is listed. Owens, Francis 25 TN " Hanah J. 27 KY (maiden name Overton) Bryant, Sallie 10 KY Step-daughter " Patsey E. 8 KY Step-daughter " W. T. 7 KY Step-son Owens, James T. 2 KY Son ) This son is living next door to Francis in 1900) " John D. 1 month KY Son (This son is living next door to Francis in 1900) Overton, Edgar 60 KY Father in Law. In the vital records, James Owens was born 28, May 1878 to F. Owens, B. TN and __Bryant b. Whitley Co. KY. James was born in Bell County. There are lots of Owens in Knox Co. KY in 1850-1860, but none in 1870. I have found many Owens in the early years of Claiborne Co, TN, but haven't looked in the 1850-1860-1870. You might want to try in that county. I hope this has helped you some. Yvonne > 1900 Bell County Census > Linda Owens' father was Francis M. Owens > it doesn't list a mother's name > Frances M. My ggrandfather's name was Isaac W TURNER, first son of Craven S TURNER. Isaac was born in 1846, in, I believe, Hocking Co. Ohio, although I haven't found a record of his birth. I know his children's names, The earliest record I have of Craven S is his marriage record, 1843.Hocking Co. Ohio, to Mary CROW, whose parents supposedly were born in Pa. His obituary says he was born in Loudoun Co. Va. in 1819. No record of that either. It may be that his name was WalSie Craven Turner. I have no idea who his parents were, or where he was between 1819 and 1843. It's possible I could be looking for an Isaac as his father, as Isaac W. named a son Isaac P. Any clues welcome. Thanks
Searching for Isaac TURNER b 1788 Paris, FR d 1867 Wayne Co., PA. Isaac m Nancy KELLEY in 1848 after he stopped at her farm in Wayne Co., PA and worked for her. They had 8 children: Mathilda who was a post mistress for NayAug, PA; John Milton; Franklyn Varney; Mary Angeline; James Buchanan; Rosilla Correll; Elma Martha; and Elmer Marcus (last 2 were twins). Family lore says Isaac 'came from the West' when he stopped at Nancy's farm and that he had been married twice before. Nothing is know of these marriages but he had children from them. In the 1850 Wayne Co., PA census a John TURNER is shown living next door to Isaac/Nancy. His children were: Maria, George and Milton - twins; Victoria and Virginia, and Henry. Since the name MILTON shows up in the children with Nancy plus twins in each family (this also carried into the next generation), I feel this John was an earlier son of Isaac. Is anyone out there missing an ISAAC TURNER???? Hope to hear from some of you out there!!!!!

I am researching my grandfather Walter Thomas George Turner. On his marriage certificate he states that he was born in Fulham, Surrey, London. Father Walter Turner. Mother Martha Strickland. I would like to apply for his birth Certificate but not knowing my history too well could anyone tell me where I start. Is Fulham in London or Surrey. He was Church of England religion so how do I go about finding out what parish he was born in. He left England and went to Canada and then to Australia but did not keep up any contact with his family so I am lost. Regards Kay O'Neil wellington@beyond.net.au

This is in regards to message from Diane, on subject Turner-Potter Co. Diane mentioned she had Turners in Wayne Co, PA. My husbands great Grandfather John K. Turner was born in Wayne Co, PA to Phillip and Nancy Keesler Turner abt 1833. I have been trying to find parents and birth place for both Phillip and Nancy. Their oldest son on 1850 Wayne Co. PA census gave his birth place as New York. John K. married Harriett Cole abt 1852 in Wayne Co. They moved to Warren Co. MO abt 1856. they moved between Warren Co. Mo and Montgomery and Bond Counties in ILLinois. Phillips children were: Carolyn, Lydia, Ira, Elmira md. Horatio Nelson Conklin, William born 1829, John K. born 1833, George Turner born 1835, Benjamin born 1843, Amos Turner born 1825. copied fron the Boston Transcripts Nov. 12. 1934 and I am seeking the same information. TURNER. Wanted, parentage, dates and place of birth of Jeremiah Turner, Sr. and his first wife, Mary. He died August 23, 1724, in Newtown Tp. Fairfield Co. Conn., probably in that part now known as Hawleyville: Mary died there June 13, 1714. Two sons were born: Jeremiah, Jr. born May 27, 1709, "first white male child born in Newtown;" and Samuel, born May 22, 1713. In my own research I find there were two Jeremiah Turners who could maybe have been the father of Jeremiah Turner, Sr. They were both born in Stratford. one was born in 1686 and the other 1690. Could the person who asked for TURNER's in Potter Co. contact me. Sorry - I deleted you! My TURNER family was from Wayne Co., PA area but would like to exchange some of their names to see if there may be a match. Thanks - Diane
On prior occasions I have submitted inquiries on Stephen Turner and Mary Roundtree. To date I haven't run across anyone else who is working this line. In the meantime I have read and kept some of the exchanges on Shadrack Turner and the many descendants. It wasn't until a couple of months ago that I found that I am also a descendant of Shadrack. I decided to use what everyone else had assembled to create a base from which I will continue research. I do try to keep collateral lines as well. In going through this effort I have run into a problem with the various documents I retained. It is my hope that someone can help me sort out this issue with the children of Shadrack Turner and Margaret Hill. Version #1: Shadrack Turner and Margaret Hill had 12 children one being James Francis Turner who married Sally Farmer Turner, daughter of Meshack Turner and Sallie Farmer, on 27 Feb 1807. Version #2: Shadrack Turner and Margaret Hill had 12 children one being Sarah Frances (Sally) Turner who married James Francis Turner, son of Meshack S. Turner and Sally Farmer, on 6 Sep 1806. All 11 other children of Shadrack Turner and Margaret Hill were the same in each version. I have not been able to make the same comparison of children for Meshack Turner and Sallie Farmer. Is it possible that Shadrack Turner and Margaret Hill had 13 children, one omitted from each source? Dale McKinney
