    1. [TURNER-L] My Turner Genealogical Interest
    2. William Tucker
    3. Hi I am William TUCKER, presently living in Stuart Florida. Although I am retired, I am engaged in two time consuming activities (nursing parents in declining health, and being myself treated with chemotherapy) and therefore my opportunities to travel and to spend time on genealogical research are limited. I am hoping my cousins have information that might spare me some of the travel and hard work. My maternal Grandfather was William Hammond TURNER, born May 22, 1857 at Dalton, GA. He married my Grandmother Saluda Frances OLDS in Atlanta December 4, 1890. He died April 24, 1914 leaving six children. Since my mother was eight years old when he died, and for other reasons, my mother didn't get to know her father's family except for one uncle Greene Berry or Barry who lived in Chattanooga, TN. Great Grandfather was John Bosworth TURNER. (We've no particulars on his dates or place of birth.) His wife was Frances Melvina Williams NELMS born March 9, 1816 somewhere in Virginia and died March 7, 1906 in GA. John Bosworth TURNER had four sons William Hammond, Greene Berry, Elliott and John; and two daughters Laura and Lulu. We don't have particulars about any of them. If any of you can supply further information about these TURNERS I will be grateful. William B. Tucker ironman@ecqual.net Tel. 3. April 15, 1995 Confederate hero will get last wish Livingston, Texas---- Exactly 132 years after his death, Capt. Ike Turner's dying wish will be fulfilled today when his remains are buried beside those of his mother. Turner, a Confederate Civil War hero who asked to be taken home to Livingston after receiving a mortal wound in Georgia, will be laid to rest in a family cemetery in Texas' rural Polk County as part of a living-history event sponsored by the Ike Turner Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Turner, a veteran of Fredericksburg and other Virginia battles, died in April 1863 after becoming, at age 21, the youngest captain in Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood's brigade, said Mack Neal, commander of the Turner Camp. Dorothy Grisham dotcole@rnet.net

    1. [TURNER-L] John Turner and Nancy "Fanny" Burnett
    2. Jim Spencer
    3. I am looking for information on a John Turner who married a Nancy "Fanny" Burnett in Patrick County, Virginia, or neighboring county. Four of their nine children show on their marriage certificates that they were born in Patrick County, Virginia. These four children are: Adam Turner, Elizabeth Turner, Judith Turner and William Turner. Besides these children they had the following children after moving to Floyd County, Kentucky: Alexander Turner, Israel Turner, Morgan Turner, Greenville Turner and John Burke Turner. Very little is known about John and Nancy especially before they reached Kentucky. I do know that Nancy's father is William Burnett who left Patrick County in about 1818 and moved to Floyd County, Kentucky with his wife Elizabeth and their children, Adam Burnett, Hannah Burnett and John Burke Burnett. Elizabeth later moved back to Patrick County, Virginia and lived with John Tuggle and Elizabeth Burnett Tuggle until she died. John Turner and Nancy moved to Floyd County, Kentucky in the 1820's. There is another John Turner and Nancy Burnett who married in Patrick County, Virginia stayed there and died there. Any information pertaining to this family would be greatly appreciated. /s/ jspencer@se-tel.com
