I am still searching for the parents of Mathias Turner, b 1773 in Rutherford CO. N.C. (I think) Mathias married Margaret Nesbitt, moved to Tennessee, and about 1830 to Randolph CO, MO. He died in Macon CO., MO in the home of his son,Elijah, in 1870.
I am not sure if I have a TURNER relation- still speculative. Supposedly a Mary Polly Turner married Edward Williams 1804 KY then in 1814 married Henry Frakes. No clue if this Henry is ours or not. I was reading this message closely as I saw a lot of familiar names- I am also researching John Foushee Garner whose descendant Mary May Letitia Garner married William Frakes. His son James Laborn married a Sarah Wilson that we do not know for sure if her mother was Christine Taler, Toler, Boles or even Noble, married to a John K Wilson. These names in particular spark my interest... Could the Franks or Fakes be Frakes? Benjamin Foshea and Benj Fooshe: are they the same guy? (I am trying to figure out where the Foshee and Norris names come from in my lines...) > >440. 23 Jan 1796 - 10 Jun 1802. Wm. I want to Thank everyone for all the help I've recieved since joining this list, I started about a year ago with only my grandparents names, (didn't even know Grandma's maiden name) and with the help of this and other rootsweb lists I've found my long lost family. As my daughter would say...you guys and gals are "All that and a bag of Dorito chips too!!!" And a very special THANK YOU to my cousin Adelene Mullins(who found me wondering dazed and confused out here, lol) If it weren't for her I'd still be out there somewhere. And Tami(yea, you girl) who has picked up the trail when we thought we'd lost their tracks. Thanks again all for all your time and help, it is greatly appreciated!!!! Teresa

Hi - In searching for information on Bessie TURNER, her obituary listed a surviving sister, Mrs. Jim YOUNG, of Rockfield, KY, which my AAA road map shows to be in Warren County. I'm trying to find Jim in order to learn the name of his wife, but couldn't find him in the 1880 census files, the latest I had access to, as Jim, James or any initials starting with J. Various sources list several different middle initials for Bessie, but a very helpful researcher located her marriage records in Sumner Co., TN, showing her middle name to be Lee. Bessie was born in 1864 somewhere in Tennessee, so it's quite likely that Mrs. Young was also born there, and could possibly have been born as much as five years before or after Bessie. The only thing Bessie's death certificate showed that wasn't already known is that her mother's maiden name was TRIBUE. Her own maiden name was not shown. Any information Mrs. Young, or Bessie Turner, will be greatly appreciated and I will be happy to share what I have. John

I'd like to hear from descendants of Zephaniah Turner (1812-1871) & Mary S Cowan Turner (1813-1873) from NC who settled in Phelps Co. MO with their 7 children in the 1850's. I'm particularly interested in finding and sharing photographs from these families. I have photographs of Zeph & Mary's grandchildren from their son Wilson Turner and his wife Mary Jane Hudgens Turner. Also, I have heard that there is a Turner reunion in the Rolla area every year. Does anyone have information about this year's gathering?? Thanks, Pat Clymer St Louis, MO

LaDonna and anyone else with interest. The Shadrack and Margaret Turner file of descendants was probably mine. * Lucy Butler should be changed to Lucy Meriwether as 2nd wife of William If you look closely I said Margaret died (after 1797). The reason for the date is that is the last land transaction carrying her name. That land transaction was recorded in 1803. I do not know when she died nor when or where or to what Jane he remarried. I suspect that Margaret was the mother of all the children from the tenor of the estate settlement but have no proof. It also seems likely that had he remarried a young female of childbearing age there would have been minor children at his death. In his household in 1820 there is one female 26-44 and he is listed over 45 but there is also a male 26-44. Shadrack (his son) and James and Meshack are seperately listed in the 1820 census for Lincoln. Richard is in Jasper co in 1820. I believe that he has a child and spouse and their children in his household in that census This is info from records. He was in court in 1814 because a slave had committrd a felony, Shadrack. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas Shadrack Turner, Sr. being disposed to make a distribution of part of his estate to the forgoing of his sons and sons-in- law in addition to what he may have given to them before with a view of making them all equal share and share alike which property is to be alotted and put into a near equal proportion as can convinently be done by Rem Remson, Wm. Another document from the estate reads as follows: "Shadrach Turner Junior one of the administrators of Shadrack Turner Senior deceased came in open court and on oath saith that the within returns of incomes and expenditures is just and true to the best of his knowledge. Sworn to in open court this 5th May 1823 signed Shadrach Turner. Recorded in Book C Folio the 126 & 127 in record of incomes & expenditures this 4th May 1823. Signed by court clerk. Attached is a document that says: 'Inventory of the real and personal porperty given to Jane Turner the widow of S. Turner Senior deceased as her part of said estate given by consent of a 11 out of 12 to wit - this said property has hereupon been appraised and returned to Court. There is a long list of personal property including land and acreas of land being where the said Jane Turner lives real estate and then personal estate which includes walnut table, chest with drawers, clock, jam and dried fruit, bed sted and furniture, flax wheel, set of fire logs, gigg and harness, barrels of corn, head of cattle, bay horse, rone horse, negro Sam and negro girl Diley. Spinning wheel, lot of chickens, axes, lot of turkeys, etc. Attached also is an accounting of the expenses of the estate which includes items such as 21 lbs of sole leather for negro shoes, Wm. Harper clerk, Noble & Wardlow for legal advise , salt, sugar & coffee bot (sic) for the use of the farm, Thos. Lyon for surveying 100 acres land assigned to the widow by connection, James Steward for acting as clerk at sale two days, Wm. H. Norman for crying the property, W. Mays for three day services a clerk, 13 1/2 gallons whiskey for the sale, Sugar & coffee furnished to the widow for her support as by consent of connections, W. H. Hobby for publishing notice, Etc. Also some items were lost such as: one bay mare died which was appraised at $75, two yearling consumed by the family, one axe wedge and one club axe lost. This gives us some idea as to what was involved in holding the sale and taking care of the family while the estate was settled. ___________________________ It took about 4 years to settle this estate.[Br derbund Family Archive #310, Ed. 1, Census Index: Colonial America, 1607-1789, Date of Import: Nov 4, 1997, Internal Ref. #1.310.1.1759.18]
Hi, I'm new to this group but not at all new to genealogy. I am hoping to trace parents of one ancester. His name was William GODWIN and he was born in Derbyshire, England, 1789. Family history says he deserted the army and fled to America, adding the name TURNER along the way. He eventually settled in Southern Ohio (Scioto Co. about 1814-1816) and married, produced 10 children. I have information on all his descendants and am not seeking any information on them. I know he is not related to any other TURNER families. I am only seeking info on his ancestry in Derbyshire. Sue Bishop
The following were extracted from "Abstracts of Early Records of Laurens County, South Carolina 1785-1820 with Name Index & Revolutionary War Service" compiled by Sara M. Nash, 1982. I'm sending this in 2 messages, because of its length. This is the second part. Notes: The first number after the Deed or Will Book is the page number in that source document. Anything in [ ] are comments I've added. Hi All I apologize in advance for the length of this but I wanted to get everything in. I am looking for information on the following TURNERs from Clark and Clermont Counties, Ohio, in the mid to late 1800s. Ezekiel Edwin TURNER was born Dec 17, 1817. According to Census records, he was in Clark Co. Ohio in 1860 and in Tate Township, Clermont Co. Ohio in 1850,1870 & 1880. His birthplace listed in the various Censuses as PA , KY and Ohio. The 1880 Census also lists his parents birthplace as PA. Ezekiel died June 2, 1889. He is buried in and his will was probated in Clermont Co. On January 19, 1845, Ezekiel married Charlotte W. THOMPSON who reportedly has roots back to the Mayflower. Charlotte was born Sept 9, 1816. Birth state for her is shown as both Ohio and PA. She died in Clermont Co in 1873. They had four daughters, Mary (died unmarried at age 16), Melissa Jane, Lucy Ann and Laura Elizabeth. They are all shown as being born in Ohio. Lucy is my great-grandmother. Ezekiel took a new wife, Keziah ? after Charlotte died. The other TURNERs are Adam age 67 and Jane age 58. They have a son (?) William B. age 26 living with them. Next to Adam are Joseph and Naomi TURNER ages 28 and 27 with children Samantly (sp?) female age 2 and Wm. B. age 10 mo. In 1860 Clermont Co. Census, Joseph age 40 is living with wife Naomi age 37 and children (?) Wm. B age 11, AnaBelle age 9, Sarah Jane age 7 and Mariah M. (sp?) a male age 5. Naomi died in 1868. In 1870, Joseph is still in Tate Twsp. living with William age 20, Anabell age 18, Sarah J. age 17, Merit (sp?) age 16, Adam age 9 and Elizabeth age 8. I could not locate Adam or Jane TURNER after the 1850 Census including in the death, cemetery or probate records. I understand that death records for the period around the early 1850s are incomplete so that might me one explanation. I am speculating that Adam and Jane might be Ezekiel's parents. I did follow Adam back to 1840 in the same vicinity (based upon similar names of other family from the 1850 Census). In 1830, he was found in Lewis Twsp. in Brown Co. Since there are no family member's name in the early Census, a connection to Ezekiel was not possible. Adam, Jane and Joseph TURNER were shown as being born in PA as was Ezekiel for the 1850 Census. I ran out of time before I could research further. Is anyone familiar with any of these names? OR, does anyone have access to Land Records that might show who Ezekiel got his land from? Possibly his Father, Adam?? Thanks in advance. Am looking for info that will lead to finding the names of the parents of Daniel Turney. Daniel appears on the 1850 Census for Rusk, Cherokee County, TX. as being 21 years old and living with a family whose last name was Keigan. Family tradition indicates Daniel was born in TN. about 1829 and subsequently moved to IL. and then to TX. Family tradition also indicates Daniel's father's name was Samuel. At this point I have had no luck finding any records for Daniel prior to 1850 or any records at all his father and mother. Any info or advise will be sincerely appreciated. Ron Waters
