    1. [TURNER-L] TURNER, Cornelius, b 1812 DE
    2. Are any of you working on the line of Cornelius Turner, b. 1812 Delaware? He had a wife, Mary (Boswell). Her roots were in Belmont Co. OH where they married in 1842. Cornelius (d. 1879) and Mary (d. 1878) both died in Kansas - both buried in Wichita. They had moved west from OH in 1877. They had the following children (all last name Turner): Benjamin Stokely (died in MO at 26) Asenath (wed Wellington Blair) William Parker (lived and buried in MO) Cornelius Edward Penina (wed Broomfield--died in KS) Mary Jane (wed James Salman)--died AR James L (died as infant) Joseph T (lived in Barney OK in 1914) George W (buried in Wichita) Daniel Webster (settled and died in Sumner Co. KS) John H (died at age 24) Samuel S (last known to be in Fresno CA in 1914) I especially would like to correspond with any "cousins", but welcome leads any of you might have. I believe Cornelius had a father named Cornelius and a mother Elizabeth. I have been unable to prove any connection with them through records. Help, anybody? Carolyn

    1. [TURNER-L] TURNER, MANSON
    2. Hi All, Are any of you researching a MANSON TURNER that I find in the 1830 Census of Newton Co. GA on p. 32. I see he is in Jasper Co. Ga in 1820 p. In 1840, he hops back to Jasper Co. on p. 79. Others of my Turners are in those places at those times and I was curious about him. One of my family group later named a child Manson Turner and I wondered if there might be a connection somehow. By 1850, there is a Mason in Henry Co. GA, a "M. Turner" there too, and an "M Turner" in Pike county GA. Again I have family members in all of those places at those same times. Thanks, Nancy

    1. [TURNER-L] TARNER
    2. I am interested in any information anyone has on people with the surname Tarner. My family and I have done lots of work tracing our family tree and have found that the vast majority of the Tarners in the USA today are all related to one another in one way or another, but there are still a few out there whom we cannot fit into our family tree. Family lore has it that "our Tarners" were "Pennsylvania Dutch" or German. We think perhaps our ancestor John b. 1782 may have been born in Germany or possibly England and emigrated to this country at a young age. There are Tarners in Germany and in England. We also have discovered that, for some reason, the name Turner in this country gets changed to Tarner in certain places in eastern Europe. In the last year or two I have searched for websites in which the name Tarner appears and have found that the names Tina Turner and Ted Turner both show up in news releases in countries such as Poland, etc., as Tina Tarner and Ted Tarner. I'm wondering if whatever linguistic mystery causes that to happen may also have caused my european Tarner ancestors to become Turners when they hit this English-speaking country. Can anyone give me any input on that theory? All of my Tarner relatives descend from a John Tarner who was born in 1782 (not sure if here or in Europe somewhere), married a woman whose given name was Nancy, and who, according to his will, owned property in Franklin County, PA, in the early 1800s. Their children were: Jacob Henry (my 2nd great grandfather) b. 10/Oct/1805, John b. 1808, Elizabeth and Nancy each b. bet. 1808 and 1814, William M. b. 20/Mar/1815, PA, Lidia b. 1818, Molly b. 19/Apr/1820, and Samuel b. 25/Mar/1924. The last 3 were born in Pleasant Hall, Letterkenny Twp, Franklin Co., PA. Jacob Henry Tarner and his wife Susan Adeline Starr b. 5/Jan/1808 and had 5 children: Rebecca b. 30/Mar/1833 in Markes, Peters Twp, Franklin Co., PA, John b. 20/Dec/1835 , Jacob Starr b. 20/May/1838 in Peters Twp, Franklin Co., PA, Samuel b. 21?Aug/1843, and William Roy b. 7/Sep/1845. John and Jacob Starr were both born in Bridgeport>Lemasters, Peters Twp, Franklin Co., PA. Samuel and WIlliam Roy were also born in Peters Twp, town unknown. Jacob Starr Tarner and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Mowen b. 17/Jul/1848 were married in 1868 and had 9 children: Susan Ada b. 16/Oct/1869 in St. Thomas, St. Thomas Twp, Franklin Co., PA, my paternal grandfather Samuel Rowe b. 27/Jan/1871 in Bridgeport>Lemasters, PA, Charles Franklin b. 7/Jul/1872 in Franklin Co., PA, Jacob Henry b. 10/Feb/1874 i Franklin Co., PA, Myrtle Eda b. 19/Oct/1876 in Franklin Co., Michael Starr b. 7/Nov/1878 in St. Thomas, PA, Mary Catherine b. 9/Dec/1880, Daniel b. 27/Feb/1883, and Mowen LeRoy b. 13/May/1885. Mary Catherine and the two little boys were born somewhere in Franklin Co., but the boys didn't live beyond two months and one month respectively. Samuel Rowe Tarner and his wife Mildred Blanche Wymard b. 18/Nov/1877 in Pittsburgh, PA, were married 29/Apr/1912 in Pittsburgh and had 4 children: Jean Elizabeth b. 4/Jan/1913 in Derry Station or Boro, Derry Twp, Westmorland Co., PA, Sarah Mildred b. 16/Mar/1914, my father Samuel Wymard b. 1/Jan/1917, and Mary Ona b. 3/Jul/1918. The latter 3 were all born in Pittsburgh. Samuel Wymard Tarner and my mother Ruth Louise Haworth b. 16/Sep/1916 in Los Angeles, CA, were married on 2/Sep/1939 in Los Angeles, Co., CA. My name is Sandra Louise (Tarner) Wagner, b. 29/Oct/1942 in Los Angeles, CA, the oldest of their 4 children. My brothers are Mark Haworth, Brian Lee and Brent Oliver, all born in Los Angeles, CA. I also have LOTS of information on the siblings of my grandfather, great grandfather and 2nd great grandfather. I would be happy to share that information with anyone who is interested and would love to have any additional information you might be able to give me to fill some of the gaps in the larger Tarner Family Tree. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    3. I am researching the following family that lived in Kansas from about 1882/3 to 1894. Some of them went to Oklahoma in 1894, some probably stayed, and some returned to KS after about 1900. Before going to Kansas, Orson lived in Yorkshire, New York from 1837 until after 1860 sometime. He was the son of Caleb Turner and Polly Paddock. Caleb was born in 1800 in Westfield Mass. The son of William Turner, born in Conn, and Lucy Phelps, born in Mass. Orson A. Turner, born 1837 in New York (sometimes used name "Washington" Sarilda Jane Anderson, born 1865 in Indiana (sometimes used Rilla or Cerrilda) (Sarilda was the daughter of Harry Anderson and Rachel.) Married 1865 in Champaign County, Illinois Children: Silas H. Turner, 1866 married Carrie A. (probably in Kansas) and had Fay Wallace, 1889 in Kansas, and Nena, 1899 in Oklahoma. Census information states they had 5 children, but only two were living. Silas and Carrie (and kids) returned to Kansas and were in Scott and Barton Counties in 1910 and 1920 respectively. Silas may have died around Scott City in 1949. Fay has a draft registration card from Scott City, Kansas. Ella J. Turner, born in Illinois in 1868. Charles Turner, born in Illinois in 1869 Nettie Turner, born in Illinois in 1870 Delia Turner, born in Illinois about 1871 Orson Oliver, born in Illinois 1877 (had a twin named John who died before leaving Illinois) JOSEPH GLENN TURNER, March 1883 in Kansas *Orson, wife, Joseph and Orson went to Woods County, OK in 1894. Silas and wife Carrie went as well. By 1910, Silas and Carrie are back in KS. Orson, wife, Joseph and Orson went to Springfield, Missouri. I have no further information on the kids. I am trying to figure out where in Kanas Joseph Glenn may have been born and also marriage records on the other kids (except Orson). Thanks. Michelle, KCMO

    1. [TURNER-L] TURNER, Bessie (Elizabeth?) TN > KY > TX
    2. Hello to all my cousins - Searching for any information on my paternal grandmother Bessie Lee TURNER, especially any information on her ancestors or possible siblings, and exactly where in Tennessee she was born. Bessie Lee TURNER b. 13-Oct-1864 Tennessee d. 23-Nov-1941 Abilene, TX Records show that she and my grandfather, Thomas A. Price, were married on 19-Sep-1883, and a very helpful fellow reseacher found her marriage records in Sumner Co., TN. They moved to Abilene, TX on 24-Dec-1894. Thomas's Census listing shows my grandmother, Bessie, to have been born in Tennessee, and her tombstone confirmed the vital dates. Her death certificate did not show the first name of either of her parents, only that her mother's maiden name was TRIBUE. But that name is so unusual I have wondered if it is possibly a misspelling or a variant of TRABUE, a French Huguenot family name. Her obituary gave no other information not already known, and shown here, except a sister, Mrs. Jim Young of Rockfield, KY, was listed as a survivor. The same fellow researcher who found her marriage records reported that her middle name was listed as Lee. Several other middle initials have been used in various records. The 1900 census records have her middle initial as E, and her cemetery records show it as J., but her tombstone showing it as T, but that is probably for Turner. At long last I now have all sorts of info on Thomas, but can't get over that well known brick wall on finding any useful information about Bessie, her parents or siblings. Can anybody give me any additional information or verification. As always, will appreciate any and all information and will be happy to share. John

    1. Re: [TURNER-L] Virkus' Book
    2. William T. Stout
    3. Bob The volumes are available in a library that I go to. They are a good place to start, but do sometimes include errors because it is a compilation of materials sent to the editor by others. We should always double check anything we get that isn't a primary source. You would think a tombstone would be accurate, but Abraham Kirby up in VT has two generations transposed on his genealogy listed on his tombstone. The author of The Kirbys of New England copied this error and propsed another ansestor from England to explain it. This was picked up by Virkus and finally corrected by a later author who noticed a problem with ages. I point that out as a major problem, but a lot of data in the book has been very useful except few geographic locations are provided and siblings aren't listed.
