The following comes from Charles Dailey's Pioneer History Churches of Christ / Christian Churces in the Pacific Northwest http://ncb.simplenet.com/nwh/OrMarion.html As the Oregon & California Railroad building southward developed their rail stops, they sent a crew to erect a station and warehouse a few miles south of Salem and name it Marion. The crew did as directed, but built the station in the wrong place. Marion remains 6.5 miles south of where it belonged. A second station was built at the location first intended by the rail company and named after Henry L. and Julia Ann Turner, Christians and prominent local landowners. Mr. Turner was born in New Brunswick and, with Julia Ann, was a pioneer of 1852. Since those years, Turner, has been an important center for the instrument-using Restoration churches in Oregon. The Turner family donated six acres for a camp grounds on the east side of Mill Creek in 1878. John Turner Newberg, OR turner4@jps.net

Since this line of TURNER is unique, I thought I'd give my few cousins on this forum an update. Oral family history always gave a very detailed account of William GODWIN being a young lad in the British military, being involved in a battle between British troops and French troops near the Irish Sea, his position being overrun by the French. He then decided (along with some friends) that they were no longer interested in the war and they made their way to an Irish port and took ship for America, adding the name TURNER to his name to avoid bringing shame on the GODWIN family. Well, folks, I am on the track of finding out more about this since I have found that there WAS a battle in Ireland where French troops overran British troops (during the short Irish rebellion in 1798). And so the implausible has become the entirely possible. I'm now reading a fictionalized account of this event and hope to trace the name of possible regiments William GODWIN could have been attached to. This gives me a very high chance of finding out much more about him. Sue Bishop, digging at the roots of the family tree

I am looking for any information about parents of Victoria Susan TURNER who was married to Thomas CONNER. They lived, I think, in Baxter, WV. She was born in 1871 and died in 1955. They had a son George CONNER (1902 - 1968). George died in Oregon on March 5, 1968. Thomas also had two daughters, Beulah who married to Lloyd Boyer of Ohio and Thelma who married John Spiker of WV. There is at least one other son, Bill, who moved to NY, but as of yet I have no information on him. If you should have any information or need more information, I would appreciate an email. My name is Stanley Conner and my email address is shconner@aol.com. Thank you for your time. Stan

Nele, sur. - June 14, 1798 Ministers in area doing marriage returns: Burns, Horatio Douglas, Thomas Fears, Jesse Hail, Randolph Jones, Jesse Jones, Robert Miller, Jacob Rentfro, Isaac Saunders, Joseph Stockton, Robert as a personal note: some of these families in Franklin Co Va during this time with marriage records, appear in 1840 census Giles Township, Van Buren Co, Arkansas. Others came thru that area of AR ca 1835, but moved on to Snowball, Searcy Co Arkansas. Among them, the son of Moses Potter and Frances Kirby, a Mark Renfro/Rentfro, Owens, Young, Reeves, Lemon, Edmunds, Farmer. (an Isham Turner married an Elizabeth Young 1792, William Quarles married Elizabeth Rives 1802, etc.) So it seems to me that maybe there was a group of neighbors or even a church group out of Franklin Co Va around 1800 who moved together - probably to TN - and then late 1830s they or their children show up in Van Buren County Arkansas - still togehter. (just something I am working on - since my William Potter, his parents came from Franklin Co VA as did the Kirby, Bartee, Estes connection) Mary Turney Miller hlm@qtm.net
