3:00 a.m. 29.Jun.99.PDT If you're a GeoCities homesteader, be warned: Your Web site is no longer your own. Yahoo, which launched its Yahoo-GeoCities site Monday, says it owns all Web pages, articles, and images on member sites and has "irrevocable" rights to them for all time. (Interpretation: We'll steal it all and use for our commercial gain) - ------------------------------------------------ 4:30 p.m. 30.Jun.99.PDT In response to a boycott and criticism from outraged customers, Yahoo late Wednesday abandoned rules that had given it eternal ownership of all GeoCities Web sites. "We're seeing how we can clarify our intentions, given the recent outcry," said Tim Brady, Yahoo vice president of production. (I really love that word... 'clarify') The new terms of service, which took effect 3 p.m. PST Wednesday after executives spent the morning huddling with lawyers, now stress that "Yahoo does not own content you submit." (Interpretation: Hum... let's get the pro's in here and see how we can lie our why out of this mess... what?, oh hell yes... continue the archive, I can always sell the mail list to Porn and Spam dudes) - --------------------------------------------------- _Mitosis_
Deana, I apologize for taking so long to reply. I am not well adapted to using the internet and somehow I lost your message, but found it today. Hi List, Wasn't someone looking for a Reuben Turner? I found a Reuben Turner who bought land from the U.S. Gov't in 1835, Marion Co., MO. He may be related to my Marion Co., MO Turners since they were there at the same time. However, I have no other clues to a connection. Other Turners listed were: CHARLES L., GABRIEL, PRESLEY, STEPHEN B., THOMAZEN E., and WILLIAM. All in Marion Co. and all between 1825 and 1839. Pam
Hello list members, I am seeking information on the family of Alfred E. TURNER and his wife Adelaide (nee DENNLER) who lived in Utica, NY in 1935. According to an obiturary of my G.Grandmother, Mary L. DENNLER which states that she died "at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alfred E. Turner, 1801 Storrs Ave." The Turners had a son, Philip Layton, who later becomes a Ph.D. Any information concerning this family would be greatly appreciated. Roy Dennler Price Grants Pass, OR
Rec'd from fellow researcher...... Just read the news that Yahoo now owns GeoCities and claims it owns all web pages, articles, and images on member sites and has "irrevocable" rights to them for all time. Your GeoCities web site is no longer your own. http://www.wired.com/news/news/technology/story/20472.htm - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Suppose mail list, family photos, living individuals... including all content you may have placed in private files, now for sale!. Now they will be quick to say with great piety... "I would never..." If you believe that, re-read the beginning paragraph. New York has banned ownership of "dingos, weasels, skunks and vipers". If yahoo is based in New York, then who is running the company???? I, for one, have made my last connect to Yahoo or Geocities. _Mitosis_

LURENA MARGARET TURNER, born 1816 in Bedford County, Virginia, daughter of OBEDIAH W. TURNER and NANCY ROBERTSON, married JOSHUA CHAFFIN on February 10, 1842 in Bedford County. Lurena died in Bedford County and is buried at the Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery on Route 722 in Bedford County. There is a new stone at their gravesite, so someone may live nearby who is kin to them. Possible connections: 1820 Census,Southern District Bedford County: Jesse Turner, Richard Turner, Sarah Turner, Admire Turner, Benjamin Turner, Franklin Turner. I really would like to have help in locating Obediah's family! Maybe Obediah lived in another part of Bedford County. Any clue would be very much appreciated! Thanks so much... Beverly Lipford Yeager
