    2. Subject: Ethics Bob felt guilty all day long. No matter how much he tried to forget about it, he couldn't. The guilt and sense of betrayal was overwhelming. But, every once in a while, he heard a small inner voice trying to reassure him: "Bob, you aren't the first doctor to sleep with one of your patients and you won't be the last." But, the other voice would bring him back to reality: "Bob, you are a Veterinarian."

    3. Thank you, Mary for responding to my query. I don't care if she was a Turner or a Turney as long as I can get a lead on her :o) Alexander Thomas Logan was b. in Amherst Co., VA. How far he traveled into TN before he met Eliza is unknown. Apparently he took her back to VA where Martha Jane was born. By 1838 they had moved on to MO. I'll start searching the counties you mentioned.

    1. [TURNER-L] Eliza Turner - TN/VA
    2. Harold Miller
    3. In reference to your Eliza Turner born ca 1810, married Logan 1836, first child Martha Jane born in VA, named in one census spelled TURNEY. Be aware there were 3 different Turney lines in Smith co TN from ca 1808 to sometime in 1840s. One of these lines is supposed to have come out of Patrick county Virginia about 1808 along with Adams, Overall, Keaton. I have not been able to find this TURNEY family in Patrick co Virginia as yet, but the others were there. I mention Patrick co VA because there is a Turner family from there - James Isiah Turner born abt 1775 Albermerle County, Virginia, died abt 1825 Wilson county Tennessee. His parents were Francis Turner, SR. and Elizabeth. (this is all from a Turner researcher so I cannot say it is for sure). James Isiah Turner was married to Elizabeth Harris. He also married 26 December 1796 Patrick co VA to Ann Reeves. Ann Reeves born about 1780 VA d/o George Reeves and Mary Young. I list for this TURNER family an Elizabeth Turner born abt 1797 VA, married 24 October 1820 Wilson co., TN to Robert McKee, she died aft 1870. I have some of the Franklin co VA marriage records from 1790s, and there are several Turner, Reeves, and Young. Franklin co Va became Patrick CO later. So it would seem that this Turner family was with a Turney group in early 1800s in Patrick co VA. If you are still with me, James Isiah Turner and wife Ann Reeves had two of their sons who married into my Turney family in 1820s in Smith Co TN. Smith was very big then, the TURNEY family lived near Liberty TN near border of what would become Dekalb and Cannon Co. My Turney family 1774 was on Holston river in what would become Eastern TN, from Hawkins co TN to Smith ca 1806. George Turney and Catherine Barger Turney: Katherine Turney born ca 1806 married John Turner born 1803 Patrick co VA. he died before 1857 in Dekalb county TN. I do not have their children. Elizabeth TURNEY born 1805 TN, married 1821 TN to Francis L. TURNER. Francis L. Turner born 1804 Patrick county VA, died aft 1870 TN. this could not be your Eliza because I do have the children of this marriage. I think this couple is the one who bought some Spurlock land in Cannon co TN. I do know that one son was Francis Turner born 18 Jan 1839 Dekalb co TN, married 18 Jan 1860 Dekalb co TN to Mary Ashworth, died 04 april 1917 in Ellis county, Texas. So I suspect that they also lived in that area where Dekalb and Cannon Counties meet. Maybe looking in Patrick co VA would help you, as I said, I figure they probably made the move to TN in early 1800s. James Isiah Turner had a child 1811 in Patrick co VA, and the next one 1816 in Wilson co TN. so the move would have been after the 1808/1809 move of Isaac Turney, Adams, Keaton, etc. from Patrick Co VA. I hope I have not totally confused everyone - both the Turner and Turney families are such a joy to work with - they are such a mess. Mary hlm@qtm.net

    3. I will give my request again since there are so many new people on the list. My gr.gr.grandmother was Eliza Turner. She was born ca. 1810. One census says she was born in TN. Another says VA. She married Alexander Thomas Logan on June 22, 1836 in TN or VA. Their first child, Martha Jane was born in VA. Eliza's parents were well-to-do as her father gave them "one Negro woman, one Negro man and one 12 year old Negro boy" when they got married. I have a lot of info on the Logan line. but have been unable to find Eliza's family. In one census her name was spelled Turney. Family story is that she was, at least, one-quarter Cherokee. I always take those stories with a large grain of salt! Years ago I sent to every county in VA for a wedding cert. and found nothing. I believe they were married in TN in her family home. If anyone has any connection or suggestions, please get in touch with me.

I even finally found War of 1812 military records for one of my Turneys, with Turner on the outside of it. Apparently he had trouble when he applied for pension, 3 times they said there was no such records, but finally found them. and I could go on. What I am saying is this, in those early records - especially before about 1800 you have to be ready to give names such as Ternay a second look when looking for Turner. And you have to be willing to watch Turner list even if your name is Tarner. I did find one of my Turneys in 1750s Maryland by watching the Turner list. Mary

The reason I say that is because his son Charles aka Charlie was born in 1887. Charles is reported to have 3 sisters and a brother but not sure if this is correct. We have a picture of him with a man and 3 ladies and my sister said she was told they were his siblings. ??? Please email me after you check, Thanks, BMISKY@AOL.COM

    1. [TURNER-L] Turner, Tarner, etc.
    2. Harold Miller
    3. Let me throw my 2 cents worth in to the discussion on Tarner, etc surname. I am a Turney but belong to the Turner list. Why? Because my Swiss Thuny ancestor who arrived in Pa in 1741, then to Shenandoah Valley of VA - he went thru a lot of name changes getting from Thuny to Turney. And one of his brothers in PA ended up as a Dorney. Early records, because these people spoke German and the clerks doing the writing spoke only English, my ancestor is sometimes listed as Turner. Also Tunis, Ternay, Tarner, Torny, Dorney, etc. We once listed about 30 spellings of the name in early records. I know for a fact that in Shenandoah Co va marriage records Michael Ternay - turns out to be Michael Turner married to a Murphy Michael Turner - is my Michael Turney married to a Matheny. So.....I always watch for anything close to my name. Try to tell the Dorney family that they are Turneys, the aren't. They chose to use Dorney, the original Swiss version was Thuny, but it was something else in France. What I am saying is, I have seen Tarner spelling in searching for my family, I will go back and see if I can find them again. I can tell you it would probably have been 1740s in Pa, or 1749-1780s in Shenandoah Valley of VA. I always wondered if Tarner might be Turney. Mary
