    1. [TURNER] Gressetts, Perrys, Turners, Gardners, Travis
    2. Frank and Lois Richardson
    3. I went to the Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill, TX, Washington County, (Grimes County was once a part of this county) "because I had seen a Gressett there who was married to a Travis, I thought. I have copied the information: "In memory of Susan I. Gressett, daughter of William B. Travis, died Sept. 19, 1870, aged 36 years, erected by son-in-law Thomas G. Davidson." At the ground level was this marker from the DRT: "In memory of Susan I. Gressett daughter of William B. Travis Sponsor William B. Travis Chapter of the D. R. T. " (Daughters of the Republic of Texas). (Check the HANDBOOK OF TEXAS to learn more about William B. Travis). Another grave nearby must have been her son: "W. B. Gressett Died July 24, 1858, Age 12 years, 2 months, 24 days" There was a great deal of space around these graves, and it is known that many graves were not recorded and had no lasting marker. Over in Grimes County, Esther Gressett had married a Turner, and their daughter, my grandmother, Ella Esther Turner, md. Selser Howard Perry. This is Selser's grandmother, whose second marriage was to to Dr. Ducalion A. Perry: "Sacred to the memory of Mrs. Eunice E. Sherman Oct. 27, 1879 In the 64th year of her age" Following that, in script at the bottom of the gravestone: "A home in yon bright sphere Who would not leave this world of pain to find a Saviour near" Next to her is the stone for her 3rd husband, who was the postmaster of Chappell Hill, Texas: "Sacred to the Memory of William B. Sherman Who departed this life January 3 AD 1871" This means that Eunice Elizabeth Gardner from Salem, Mass., was a widow 3 times in Texas: 1. Widow of Little (which one?) who was one of Austin's "First 300" 2. Widow of Dr. Ducalion Alredge Perry, murdered when she was expecting his child, Gardner D. Perry (Ducalion was too young to get title to his land, and is supposed to have been in Washington County when he was 19 or 20 years old, having been born in Wake Co., NC in 1799.) 3. Widow of the Sherman above Does anyone know why the women who were "first settlers" do not all have D.R.T. markers on their graves? Does anyone have more information about these Texas pioneers? 1. [TURNER] ISAAC TURNER
    2. Diane Andreasen
    3. Searching for Isaac TURNER b 1788 Paris, FR d 1867 Wayne Co., PA. He served in the War of 1812, enlisting in Mamaroneck, Westchester Co., NY. Isaac m Nancy KELLEY in 1848 after he stopped at her farm in Wayne Co., PA and worked for her. They had 8 children: Mathilda who was a post mistress for NayAug, PA and never married John Milton m had 9 children incl. 2 sets of twins Franklyn Varney m Carolena Augusta MEYER Mary Angeline James Buchanan Rosilla Correll m 1- LOCKARD 2- HAUSER Elma Martha m 1- DENISON 2- BIRD Elmer Marcus (last 2 were twins). Family lore says Isaac 'came from the West' when he stopped at Nancy's farm and that he had been married twice before. Nothing is know of these marriages but he had children from them. In the 1850 Wayne Co., PA census a John TURNER is shown living next door to Isaac/Nancy. His children were: Maria, George and Milton - twins; Victoria and Virginia, and Henry. Since the name MILTON shows up in the children with Nancy plus twins in each family (this also carried into the next generation), I feel this John was an earlier son of Isaac. Is anyone out there missing an ISAAC TURNER???? Hope to hear from some of you out there!!!!! Diane
