    2. William Tucker
    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: <TURNER-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <TURNER-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 08, 1999 9:25 AM Subject: TURNER-D Digest V99 #172 I had a great uncle named Greenberry Turner. Therefore this correspondence interests me. All that I know about him is that he was the son of William Boswell Turner and Frances Malvina Williams Nelms Turner. My grandfather William Hammond Turner (his brother) was born in Dalton, GA May 22, 1851. Greenberry lived in Tennessee (she doesn't know where exactly) during her childhood years (1920's). I have no family history for William Boswell Turner. William Tucker

    1. [TURNER] Mary Lurannah TURNER
    2. Patsy Poppell
    3. Listers: I am looking for the maiden name of Mary Lurannah TURNER. According to my information, she was born abt. 1778 in Lincoln Co., GA and was married to James TURNER who was born 1781 in Wilkes Co., GA. He was in Hancock Co., GA on 24 Apr. 1802 and listed in Capt. Avant's Dist. A deed dated 27 Nov. 1804 indicates he had 100 acres in Jasper Co., GA. He was on that tax digest through 1807 and had participated in the 1805 Land Lottery. Their son, James Peyton TURNER, was born in Jasper County on 14 Oct. 1821. In 1834, the family moved to Stewart Co., GA. The Estate of James TURNER was probated in Stewart County on Nov. 23, 1840. Administrators were John M. TURNER, James THORNTON, and Lurannah TURNER. Mary TURNER was listed as head of the household in the 1840 Stewart County Census. In the Stewart County Census of 1850, (Mary) Lurany was shown in the household of her daughter, Elizabeth (TURNER) Reynolds, and was 72 years old. Her will had been drawn up in 1841, was witnessed by her son, James P. (Peyton) TURNER and was probated in Stewart County on Mar. 1, 1858. The administrator was Reddin G. WILLIAMS. The parents of Reddin G. WILLIAMS lived next door to James Peyton TURNER in the 1850 Stewart County Census. It could be that her maiden name was PEYTON or WILLIAMS. Can anyone help with this? Thank you for your time. Patsy Poppell

    3. Still trying to find the family of GRACE MYRTLE TURNER, about 1876. At age 17, she married Truman Edward Upole (on Dec. 4, 1893) in Garrett County, Maryland (this is the only documented fact I have for Grace. They lived in the "Bethlehem Settlement" of Garrett County, Maryland, near Oakland. Believe Grace died about 1910. At the time of her death, they were living in the Altamont area of Garrett County, MD. Her family possibily had connections with the lumber / saw mill business. Any tidbit of information concerning her family would be greatly appreciated. Pat-T

    1. [TURNER] TURNER: Nova Scotia
    2. M Arnold
    3. Hi! I'm new to the list and would be interested in communicating with those that have TURNERS in Nova Scotia, particularly around the 1820-60 time frame. This is one of my "dead-end" lines, and I'm not sure where to turn. John BOWEN (b. New York) m. Jane TURNER (b. Nova Scotia). They had at least two children: 1. Jane ("Jennie") BOWEN, b. Nov 8, 1855 (to 1865, depending on when she gives this information! -- 1865 is more likely), Nova Scotia. [New Glasgow?]. Emigrated to the U.S. in 1876 (1920 U.S. Census). Married 1878, Cambridge, Mass., to Henry Raymond TUCKER, b. 1839, Lenox, Berkshire, Mass. (Marriage Certificate). They lived in Dorchester, Everett, Malden, and Reading, Mass. and had seven children: Henry Raymond, William Samuel, Lydia, Annie, Joseph, Newton, Mary and Helen. Have much info on the Tucker ancestors and descendents, to present. 2. Annie BOWEN. Died 1890s, buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Reading, Mass., in the grave site of Henry & Jennie (Bowen) Tucker, above. I believe that the family of John & Jane (TURNER) Bowen came to the U.S. from Nova Scotia in 1876, and that daughter Jennie was 11. The BOWENs may have been living in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia in 1855-65, when daughter Jennie was born, as in the 1930s, an adult child, trying to get Henry's Civil War widow's pension for Jennie, received a response from the Town Hall of New Glasgow, stating that they did not keep birth records in this time period. (Conflicting info: Jennie's marriage certificate says she was b. Halifax?, but then again it also said she was 23 and Henry 35, when I KNOW he was 39 and think she was 13 and pregnant, and suspect there were trying to hide that fact.) With that information (or lack, thereof!) I'm not sure where else to turn. I'm left with many more questions than answers, and I would welcome any suggestions from others on the list, or from others researching TURNERs in Nova Scotia. Thank you!
