    1. [TURNER] Joseph Turner
    2. Dave & Wayne, Your Joseph Turner was a son of Joseph Turner, Sr., b. 1750 in Bedford County, Va. and wife Sarah. Joseph and Sarah sold two tracts of land in Clark County, Ky. in 1795. Joseph and Sarah had another son, Thomas, and a daughter, Polly. Thomas married Nancy Hannah Myers in Clark County, Ky. in 1797. Polly married William Hosick in Clark County, Ky. in 1796. William and Polly moved to Livingston County, Ky. and later to Illinois. The rest of the family moved to Adair County, Ky. and located on Crocus Creek in the SW section of the County near Cumberland County. Thomas and Hannah were my ggg. grandparents. I have a piece of cedar wood that has been kept in the Turner family that has the following inscription, "This piece of wood is to be kept in rememberance it was brought from Cedar Creek Virginia in the year 1778". There was a Joseph Turner in the Central Kentucky area as early as 1783 but I haven't been able to find anything about his family. Ralph Turner Reece

Would like to do some >TURNER research, but for now - it is the only Turner in my line. > >Cathy > Wow. My mother's name was Mildred Grace TURNER. She was born in 1911 to the TURNER family of Scioto County, Ohio. This TURNER family is fairly well documented because many people in it were very interested in genealogy, even long before it was popular. I would say that your Mildred Grace TURNER is a descendant of one of the lines that I just don't have documentation on. The TURNER family is descended from William GODWIN TURNER who was born William GODWIN in Derbyshire, England. He was a deserter from the British Army (details are confusing and contradictory), he came to America somehow from Ireland and added the name TURNER to keep from bringing shame to his family. He had a large family but only two sons, Joseph and Levi. Both of them had a wide list of descendants. I have quite a bit of information on them, but, of course, it's not totally complete. Joseph only had two sons, Martin Slocum TURNER and William TURNER. Levi had four sons; Warren, John Godwin, George F., Joseph Rufus. Since your grandmother was born in 1889, she would have had to have been the child of one of them. They are the only ones in the family of the right age to be her father. Try checking Scioto County, Ohio census for 1900 and see if you can track her down. She would have been a young child then. I really don't believe in coincidences when it comes to highly unusual names like this. Sue

    2. Wayne Turner
    3. Dave, I'm a descendant of that line. My grandfather was William Henry Turner. I have followed it back 6 generations here that I am sure of. I'd like to get it back farther. I really didn't have a birthdate for Green Berry until I saw your email. So here it is. 1 William Henry TURNER 2 Everett O. (b. 1/1882) or Lucian O. TURNER (b. 11/1/1883) (If Everett is my ggrandfather, I have a long line of descendants to the present for him). 3 Joseph M. TURNER born 5/27/1857 & died 2/9/1912 in Adair County (wife Martha B.--married 1860) 4 Green Berry TURNER (brother was Asa) married Sally Ann ROSS (daughter of Cornelius ROSS) Sally was the daughter of Cornelius ROSS,who was the son of John ROSS. John ROSS was a Rev. War Vet. who came to America from Scotland. He was born 1752 and died Feb.11,1835 in Adair Co. His wife was named Nancy. I'm told that there is a cemetery in Adair County called the Green Berry TURNER Cemetery. Sure would like to visit there. Now to Virginia 5 Joseph TURNER, Jr. (born 1780 in VA) married Nancy TUCKER (Green Berry & Asa were 2 of the 12 children) (Joseph is listed as the one who performed several marriages in Adair County) 6 Joseph TURNER Sr. was born in 1750 in Bedford Co.,VA. died 1800 in Adair Co. What else do you have? Thanks, Wayne ___________________________________________________________ Wayne D. 1. [TURNER] Greenbury Turner
    2. David L. Costner
    3. I have looked through the Turner files that I have and found the following which might give some leads for next step to look. Bertie Co. NC - 1800 - Rhody Turner (Rody) left a will naming heirs as John Turner, Greenbury Mullin, children of Winifred Walston, Aggy Tadlock, Eliz. Tadlock, Jerius TAdlock, John Tadlock. These sound like children of his siblings, not his own. Are any of these last names close to your Turners - Mullin, or TAdlock or Walston? Rody Turner also associated with Edward Turner and Steven and William Gray in land deal in 1789. Halifax Co NC - There is a Green Turner in 1826 with spouse Susan Bird marriage record. Hathaway Co NC - 1827 Sarah Turner in will names Thomas Mullen (note the name above in first comment) and also mentions son-in-law Joseph Turner. Perquimans Co NC land records - Joseph Turner in 1766 names Jane Mullen Riggs, widow of Abraham Riggs (calls Abraham, his uncle) (Jane is also Joseph's wife also). She is the daughter of Abraham Mullen with siblings Mary, Deborah, Miriam, Betty, Tamer. This Joseph appears to be the son of Edward wtih a son called Joseph which is mentioned below. Perquimans Co NC - Joseph Turner in 1793 gives land to son Elsburg. He appears to have a wife Ann. In 1795 Joseph with wife Joann give son Thomas land. Perquimans Co NC - Sarah Turner Sr in 1827 gives in will son Thomas Mullen, Daughter Patsey Mullen, grandd. Sarah Mullen Turner, son in law Joseph Turner. Somehow the Mullen name is mixed with Turner. the first note above has a Greenbury Mullen. Not sure any of this helps you but I said I would look through my records. Deana Dcost@compuserve.com

    1. [TURNER] Turner of VT
    2. Hi everyone: I am descended from a Turner who lived in Vermont. For the past 25 years, I have attempted to trace his ancestry, but without success. Perhaps the answer lies with you. Any information would be helpful. There are three others besides myself who are also interested in this line. ELISHA TURNER, parentage and origins unknown, born CT (according to an old family tradition), say about 1763; died probably Hartland VT after 1803. He married Hartland VT, 10 April 1788, BETSEY PATTERSON, probable daughter of Joseph and Lydia (-----) Patterson, born possibly RI, say about 1767; died probably Hartland VT after 1820. Elisha and Betsey had two know children; Elisha (married Olive Banister) and Jesse (married Huldah -----). Elisha and Betsey had five other probable children; Lydia (married first Andrew Tinkham and secondly Rufus Martin), Hannah (married John Patterson), Abigail (married Oliver Bugbee), Betsey (married Jason Banister) and Joseph (married Elizabeth Hoisington). There is a possibility that Elisha was in some way related to a David Turner or Norwich VT. Another possibility is that Elisha was perhaps a son of the following who were living in 1771: Nathaniel Turner---Deerfield MA; Abraham and Ezra Turner---Hatfield / Whately MA; William Turner---Chesterfield MA; Francis Turner---Hadley MA. Any help appreciated. Rick Turner

Because they all are William Turner's I have not been able to get their birth records without taking a chance of getting the wrong one. =========================== 1881 Census of our William Turner - ---------------------------- Dwelling: 3 Fir Street Census Place: Oldham, Lancashire, England Source: FHL Film 1341972 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 4065 Folio 45 Page 7 Marr Age Sex Birthplace William TURNER M 25 M Manchester, Lancashire, England Rel: Head Occ: Tin Plate Worker Alice TURNER M 25 F Stalybridge, Lancashire, England Rel: Wife Occ: Frame Tenter Cotton Annie TURNER U 2 F Stalybridge, Lancashire, England Rel: Daur ======================= Building: 46 Oldham Road (Shop) UNINHABITED Census Place: Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, England Source: FHL Film 1341965 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 4038 Folio 43 Page 5 (this eventually became a Iron & Tinplate Shop which I have a picture of with Alice Turner in the doorway of the shop) - -------------------------------------- ======================================= This I found in the marriage index I have not connected to ============================================== TURNER, William Marriage Wife: Jane CROMPTON Marriage Date: 27 Feb 1854 Recorded in: Saint Luke, Liverpool, Lancashire, England Husband previously married Wife previously married Husband's Father: William TURNER Wife's Father: James HILTON Source: FHL Number 1545920 Dates: ================================================ Good Luck to you Gary & think about also joining the LANCSGEN list.
