Deanna: What is the name of your Turner relative who lived his adult life in Georgia and where did he live in Georgia? My Turner relatives lived in the Georgia Counties of Wilkes, Lincoln, Jasper and Stewart. My ggg-grandfather was James A. Turner who was born abt. 1780, married Mary Lurranah ???, was on the 1820 and 1830 Census in Jasper County, and died in Stewart County abt. 1840. I strongly feel there is a connection to some of the many Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego Turners but, at this point, I don't know what. Patsy Poppell "David L. Steve, Please search the Jesse Turner name. Arkansas is the wrong area of the south for my relative but maybe a cousin, etc. Not his son. My relative born in SC in ca 1790, dies in Florida in 1850, lived his adult live in Georgia until middle 1840's then moved to Florida. Married with 16 children (two sets of twins). No idea who the wife was. Thanks. Deana
Thank you for the information. Should you find a Jesse Turner, please let me know. I believe Jesse was born in SC ca 1790 to parents freshly arrived from NC/VA and as a young man he moves to GA - Bullock Co by 1815 and then into Appling Co and his last years he is in Florida (after 1842 - last set of twins born in GA) - Hamilton Co. He dies before the census taker gets there in 1850. Does this match anything you have in the book? Deana Dcost@compuserve.com
Steve Tanner, could you please check for a Nathan Turner and for a Cornelius Turner in either the Humphrey Turner Descendants or in the Turner Lines of Descent. Carolyn
Ann Martin, could you please check your History of the Turner Family for any Nathan Turner or Cornelius Turner in the chapter on Delaware Turners. I am looking for a Cornelius Turner who had a son also named Cornelius. The younger was born in 1812 in Delaware. The older Cornelius was possibly the son of Nathan Turner. Carolyn
Am sitting here wondering why I have not thought to ask if anyone has any info/input on my grandfather, James Allen Turner, who moved from Macon Co., TN to Gainesville, Texas area in 1883, and died nearby in 1907. A Civil War vet, Confederate. Owned a beautiful Greek Revival style home there. His sons were Allen Harvey, Noah and Emery Turner. Thank you. Dorothy
Thanks, Rick, for your input. It sort of takes the heat off for anyone trying to find the book, doesn't it? Dorothy
Donnie--I'm interested to see if there are any Henrico or Chesterfield county VA Turners in the book? Thanks!
This Turner Family book has made many of us "sit up and take notice." Thanks, Donnie Hamilton. My "brick wall" is only 4 generations back: Francis Marion TURNER, listed in 1850 Census in Chariton Co., MO; his birth listed as ~1825, TN; his father born VA; his mother born SC. (Marion) TURNER married Patsy A. HARRIS Smith in Chariton Co., 1848. The 1850 Census shows his (F.M.) wife's name as Alice, age 25,b. IN, and a daughter Alice, age 2, b. MO. The 1870 Census lists his wife as Patsy A.(age 46, b. IN) a son, Robert, age 17, b. MO and a daughter Mary M., age 8, b. MO. He remained in Chariton Co. through 1880 Census, but was no longer there in 1900. His only son, Robert W. TURNER, moved with his son, William F. TURNER, and their families to Delaware Co., IT. My grandfather, James Elvert TURNER, was born there in 1899. I would be extremely grateful if you can help me find this ancestor's parents or siblings. There are more TURNERS in Tenn. than anywhere else on earth, I think. Without a better clue, I've only been monitoring this list and occasionally checking out county lists for TN. The only other clue is that my grandfather once told my dad that his family were "Dirty" Dutch. Is that a negative euphemism for Black Dutch? Again, Thanks, Bobbie TURNER Beasley bebe@simplynet.net -----Original Message----- From: AJRFH3@aol.com <AJRFH3@aol.com> To: TURNER-L@rootsweb.com <TURNER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, October 30, 1999 11:53 AM Subject: [TURNER] Re: TURNER-D Digest V99 #186 To Donnie Hamilton Thanks Donnie for your offer to do looh-ups. ATT bought out IBM.net. They automatically changed my E-mail address from rocaz@ibm.net to rocaz@attglobal.net.. They will send me mail that comes to old one for one year. BUT I have not been able to post to the TURNER list so I subscribed again under the new address. I could not unsubcribe the OLD address so I may receive 2 E-mails for each one. If I do can you remove the old address rocaz@ibm.net? Thanks Ann

McDuffie and lived in East Point GA. If any one has this family in their line, I would appreciate sharing with you! Thanks, Anna Owen Moseley
I have been searching for this line for twenty years. Desperate for help on this. My g-g-grandfather Riley Turner, listed in 1870 Jefferson county Census at age 18, living in the household of Hatcher. Next door, in the household of her father, was his future wife, Sarah Ann Weaver, age 17. Found their marriage license, dated July 1872 in Jefferson County, TN. No further mention of Riley. In 1882, Sarah married Eugene Watson in Hardeman County, TN. Need to find parents and siblings of Riley Turner. Any lead appreciated.
Looking for ancestors of William HARRIS and his wife Annie TURNER. They are parents of Mrytle (HARRIS) DWINAL AUSTIN, born in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts 14 Mar 1915, died in Auburn, Androscoggin, Maine 08 Jul 1999. NB: these people are not near relatives and I have very little information about them. Lin Wright ethelind@athens.net or ethelind@gateway.net
This book has been out of print for a long time. I am not sure if any copies are available anymore---the best bet would be to check old and rare book stores, and PRAY. And yet, I am not sure whether it would be a good buy, for a number of reasons. One, no index, which means you have to go page by page through the book. Secondly, there is a lack of historical detail for many of the people listed, which takes away that certain "flavor" that genealogical books have. Third, there aren't that many dates and even fewer geographical details. The text mainly consists of who married who and the names of children. And finally, it is incomplete. You may or may not have a listing of all the children and their spouses, but only one or two lines are carried forward. While it is true that it is better than nothing, I suspect that it would be wise to treat it as a guide and not as gospel. Rick
I have a Roxzana/Roxana Turner b 1830 in Ohio. She m Isaac Wickard and they lived in Minn & Wisc. Need help. Shirley
One way you could help this group out may be to have the magazine copied and offer it to whomever wishes to pay the expense. It sounds like it contains a wealth of information for those of us who are stumbling around with the Turner lines. Would it be possible to extract what you have regarding Humphrey Turner? Dorothy
Donnie, I thought I'd try to get to you before you get an overdose of inquiries. My ancestor is Joseph TURNER, Sr. who was born in the territory that became Bedford County, VA in 1750 (Bedford County was formed in 1754). He apparently moved to Clark County, KY before he moved to Adair County, KY with his son, Joseph TURNER, Jr. Joseph TURNER, Sr. married Sarah. Can you tie my Joseph TURNER, Sr. in with that book? I just wanted to remind the newer researchers that the TURNER line in Southeastern Scioto County Ohio is a very well-researched line. It also is not connected to any other TURNER lines since the first of the family was William GODWIN who added the alias TURNER around 1810-1812. I'm still hoping to come up with some kind of information on his family in England. Sue
