Date: 11/30/1999 10:29:37 AM Eastern Standard Time From: DENVERRAYC@aol.com To: TURNER-L@rootsweb.com Hi Everyone Looking for a published list of the Turner Cemetery in Mildred, Kentucky. I am told my Turner line is all buried there; don't know if this is the actual name. Thomas Turner and Nannie "Cunnigan" Turner should be there; plus my Grandfather Charlie Turner. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Surnames Include: Evans, York, Cunnigan, Turner, Hendrickson, Estridge, Bingham and Davis. Thanks Denver I have a g-granfather named Charlie Turner who was married to Hettie Viers. Their children, BerthaTurner (married a C.C. Deel) - my grandparents, and her twin, Elbert, Sarah, Wilson, Emmy, Lum, Francis, Morgan, Stant and Susie. The only date I have is for my grandmother. She was born June 16, 1905 or 1907. It all depended on what mood she was in when asked what year she was born <g>. My grand parents lived in Clinchco, VA, on Road Branch. I have no further info. on my Charlie Turner. I've just started getting into this genealogy hobby. Could our Charlie Turner(s) be one and the same? Terri

    1. [TURNER] Applications from Texas Archives; Perry, Grissett, Turner, Gressett
    2. Frank and Lois Richardson
    3. In Grimes County, Texas , my relatives included Perrys, Turners, and Gressetts, and others. I received papers from the Texas Archives today, and wonder if you can help me to identify these people, who asked for pensions for serving the Confederacy as soldiers or as the widow of soldiers: W. H. Perry - Grimes County - Pension approved Aug. 31, 1910, Civil War. On the last page of many, it gives his name as William Perry. Enlisted in C Company, 5th Regiment, Texas Cavalry. He had to apply several times before this was granted, because his wife had some property. Mrs. Elizabeth Perry, Approved Sep. 1915. Widow of William Perry, died June 12, 1928, near the town of Richards, Grimes County. Mrs. Mary Barrett, Daughter. W. J. Grissett, Approved February 16, 1903; died December 8, 1924. Private in Co. G, 4th Texas Infantry, Confederate States Army; enlisted July 1861, and discharged april, 1865. Daughter Lizzie Trant asked State Comptroller for information in 1942. Mrs. E. C. Turner, widow of J.W. Turner, Keith, Grimes County. Approved March 12, 1900. Comptroller's File No. 6456. The writing on the application is hard to read, but it looks as if J. W. Turner was in Company B, 3rd Regiment, Arizona Brigade Cavalry Texas. This appears to me to be James Wilson Turner and wife Esther "Esta" Gressett Turner. What do you think? They were my great grandparents. Alfred Gressett, Grimes County, Post Office, Iola, Texas. Approved Sept. 20, 1900. File # 7604. Was in Company E, Baylor Regiment Texas Cavalry. Julia Gressett, deposition for Alfred Gressett's service. She stated that she met him in Leon Co. TX in 1856, and was then in Grimes County. He stated that he came to the state in 1844. All of these applications, and each is several pages long, are available from the Texas Archives. You can go there on the internet, and they will mail them to you for a charge, plus postage, but this seems the best route to go if you want the actual copy of the document mailed to you. If you can tell me more of these folks, I sure would like to know. Lois Perry Richardson, Brenham, TX

    1. Green Berry Turner
    2. William Tucker
    3. Lowell: Your inquiry about Green Berry caught my attention. The following information may be helpful. Let me know if it is. My Great Grandfather was John Boswell TURNER. I don't know his date of birth or where it happened. My grandfather, William Hammond TURNER was born 5/22/1857 in Dalton GA. His mother was Frances Melvina Williams Nelms TURNER, born 3/09/1816 somewhere in VA. She died 3/07/1906 and is buried in GA (I believe in Atlanta). I don't know when or where John Boswell Turner died. Frances Melvina Williams first husband had been John NELMS, a USArmy calvaryman who died (we think) in a battle of the Mexican American War. There was one son, John Nelms Jr. from that marriage. Frances and John Boswell had five children, William Hammond, Laura, Green Berry, Taylor, and Lula. I don't know the birth order except we believe Green Berry was older than William Hammond, therefore born before 1857. Green Berry lived (we believe) in Nashville. William Hammond died when my mother was about 7 so she doesn't know very much about his family. I have to think that Green Berry was a name that had been previously used in the family. Were there any Boswells or Hammonds in your family roots? Bill Tucker

    3. Searching for Isaac TURNER b 1788 Paris, FR d 1867 Wayne Co., PA. He served in the War of 1812, enlisting in Mamaroneck, Westchester Co., NY. Isaac m Nancy KELLEY in 1848 after he stopped at her farm in Wayne Co., PA and worked for her. They had 8 children: Mathilda who was a post mistress for NayAug, PA and never married John Milton m had 9 children incl. 2 sets of twins Franklyn Varney m Carolena Augusta MEYER Mary Angeline James Buchanan Rosilla Correll m 1- LOCKARD 2- HAUSER Elma Martha m 1- DENISON 2- BIRD Elmer Marcus (last 2 were twins). Family lore says Isaac 'came from the West' when he stopped at Nancy's farm and that he had been married twice before. Nothing is know of these marriages but he had children from them. In the 1850 Wayne Co., PA census a John TURNER is shown living next door to Isaac/Nancy. His children were: Maria, George and Milton - twins; Victoria and Virginia, and Henry. Since the name MILTON shows up in the children with Nancy plus twins in each family (this also carried into the next generation), I feel this John was an earlier son of Isaac. Is anyone out there missing an ISAAC TURNER???? Hope to hear from some of you out there!!!!! Diane > >

    3. Hi, I wrote a couple of months ago about my ggggrandfather, Thomas TURNER (possibly William Thomas), who was born in Edgefield, SC, May 14, 1804, and his father, John TURNER. I have found one record on John Turner, since then. JOHN TURNER b. 1778 in Edgefield, SC I have also found a court case from 1803, from Edgefield, with a JOHN TURNER involved. I have also found a Daniel TURNER, George TURNER, and a Thomas TURNER involved in court cases in Edgefield, SC, in 1802-1804. Does anyone know if any of these men were related to my Thomas TURNER? I can't download any files, so this makes it harder for me to do. But I will appreciate any help. Thank you. Sherrydon Turner
