A lot of persons from Robeson Co, NC and into SC migrated into MS (Marion Co, Jackson Co, Smith Co and surrounding areas) and then into LA (Caldwell Parish) then arrived in TX, primarily this group went into these counties in TX from what I have found: Jefferson Co, Orange Co, Trinity Co. Orange was originally part of Jefferson Co so it makes sense to find families on these two counties. Why some went to Trinity Co and later find others leaving Orange and Jefferson Co and going to Trinity Co is a mystery. I do know I have found some information on reasons why they left the first two counties but exactly why they went to Trintiy Co I am notsure unless it was they already had friends/family there. There were some large land owners in the first two counties who were Mulungeons and later moved as there were disputes about them owning all the land. Some temporarily went into LA before going to Trinity Co, TX. These were some of the wealthiest persons of the first two counties who ! fell into this group. They owned large amounts of land and cattle. Did your Nancy stay in MS or migrate westward? I have searched a lot of states and just might have something. Also, does anyone have a Sylvanus Turner? Found him listed on Republic of Texas military site. Seems he was a US soldier who came to TX to serve for the US Army. There were a lot of US soldiers who provided service for the US Army in Tx before it was even a state. Harold <[email protected]> wrote: I found Synthia L. I have Turners in Alabama, but they came from SC, then GA and finally Alabama. Easley Turner, Bailey W. Turner, Esley T. Turner (my Grandfather). They settled around DeKalb and Jackson County, Alabama.
My TURNER line is one of my major brick walls. My father's parents never married, and I am looking for any information on my grandfather Robert Lee TURNER born in northern Alabama between approx. 1890 and 1900 and his family line. He was thought to be around 10 years older than my grandmother, Nancy Cornelia PAYNE who was born in 1903. From information passed down from the family he was born to a Robert S. TURNER, who had a brother named Oliver. This brother named Oliver, had a son that he named Oliver also, and he and my grandfather being first cousins, were about the same age. I have found this information that appears to be on my TURNER family line in the online 1880 census: Household Record 1880 United States Census Household: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace W. M. TURNER Self M Male W 53 TN Farmer --- --- E. C. TURNER Wife M Female W 47 VA House Keeper VA VA Ann E. TURNER Dau S Female W 16 AL Student TN VA John L. TURNER Son S Male W 14 AL Student TN VA Robt. S. TURNER Son S Male W 12 AL Student TN VA Oliver P. TURNER Son S Male W 9 AL Student TN VA Source Information: Census Place Township 3, South Florence, Colbert, Alabama Family History Library Film 1254008 NA Film Number T9-0008 Page Number 365B -------------------------------------- I have not been able to find Robert Lee TURNER or his cousin Oliver TURNER in any other census, or even one that looks to be similar as far as approximate, age, birthplace, family members, etc. Nor have I been able to find any other family members. I understand from talk in the family that possibly there was a third Oliver TURNER in the Oliver TURNER line that is around my Dad's age in his 70's...but have not been able to find him or make contact. Robert Lee TURNER was also supposed to have a sister that married a man named Howard JOHNSON...but just try researching THAT one! LOL Robert Lee TURNER also was thought to have fathered another child, and he and this woman never married either. The child's name was Kenneth HARRIS, as he was not given his father's last name, but his mother's name is unknown. He was born in 1932 and was said to have been killed in the Korean War, though I have not been able to find record of him either. Last know whereabouts of Robert Lee TURNER, was he was thought to have left Alabama in the mid 30's and moved to central Florida. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, I would love to be able to find out more information for my father regarding his family, and help fill in some branches on our family tree. Anna Turner Ely

Sorry about the mass posting. I have no idea why not a single one of the posts showed up on the Turner list on my computer. As I said on my last post THE COMPUTER HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. Donald
I would appreciate it very much if the titles of the emails could be used to tell something about the contents. I use the titles to delete unusefull emails from useful before they are downloaded and "Re: TURNER State call" means nothing to me. Thank you! v/r, Beverly Alexander
