    3. Although this Sterling Turner is not mine I have some interest as there were Turners who left TN and came to Texas and were previously apparently friends/neighbors, possibly even kin to Sterling Robertson who established Robertson's Colony in Texas in the 1820's or 30's. Where in TN were your Turners? Given a location I could tell you if I've come across them in my research on the Turner line who came to Texas along with the Robertson's. [email protected] wrote:Hi, I was interested in your Sterling Turner. Is this the Sterling Talley Turner who was the son of John and Sarah Talley Turner? If so, we're cousins of some sort. I descend from Sterling's younger brother John (Jack) who left TN for Wright Co., MO. Would love to compare notes with you. 3. Wow, that is something that deserves more than a posting on a genealogy list. It would be nice if someone would create a web site where military veterans could be posted on it for the Turner family but I have no idea how to do this. How about you Mr Judd, any idea on this? 3. Thank you so much, Harold, I do have the information that you found on Wingate..and the William HOLTs of GA & AL. The info you found is from my online HOLT genealogy! :-) What I don't have is any information as to where they were prior to GA...I may start again in Halifax co, VA where James HOLT (William's father) lived before coming to GA. I've looked some in SC but so far haven't found anything on Wingate TURNER or William HOLT. I did find some documentation in the Greene county Courthouse records..but nothing further back than the early 1800s. Thank you again for looking for me, I 'preciate it... 3. Have been following the recent postings on the Turner's of Virginia with great interest. Does anyone have in their database Nancy Turner born abt 1786 in VA. She married William Wainwright 1825 in Lincoln Co., TN., near Lynchburg. On the 1820 Lincoln Co., TN census Woodson Turner is living next door to Wm. Wainwright, and Woodson is still there in 1830. Don't know if Woodson is Nancy's father, brother, or Uncle, but I'm pretty convinced there's a connection. Can anyone help me? 3. Consider Turner began military service in 1775 and ended it in 1783. In 1777 he was taken prisoner by General Burgoyne, at Ticonderoga, and was kept in the camp until the surrender. One of his fellow soldiers reported that he used to afford infinite amusement to the officers, and that the General once said to him, "I shan't exchange you, Turner; I shall carry you home; the king wants a fool." When Bourgoyne marched out with his army and surrendered, Turner took occassion to pass near the General and say, "we shan't exchange your Honor, the people want a fool."
