I too have come to a brick wall with my Turner line. I have a George W. Turner born July 8, 1817 in Kentucky. He was married to Susan Preston. They had William T. Turner March 9, 1854, John B. Turner Jan 24, 1859, Nancy Turner Sept 25, 1861, George Jerden Turner Nov. 26, 1866 ( my grandfather ) George W. moved from Kentucky to Corsicana,Tx. Some of the kids moved back north. John B. moved to northeastern Okla., some went to Arkansas, some back to Kentucky. I have other names under George W., but nothing past them. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Lizzy, It should be made very clear that the two tests are NOT the same. The paternity tests are designed to identify a particular individual and involves what are called the recombining parts of the DNA (what is gotten from both father and mother). DNA tests for genealogy purposes to help in surname studies test ONLY the male Y-DNA which is gotten from the father and will not identify a specific person but rather genetic cousins. It is based on the scientific knowledge that the male Y-chromosome is passed virtually unchanged from father to son to grandson to great grandson for generations. Thus all males of the same surname with a common ancestor will have essentially the same Y-DNA signature. The tests used in genealogy surname projects, while based on the same principles of DNA science, should not be confused with what is used either in medical, forensic, or paternity testing. Lizzy, if you have test kits for paternity tests, they will not work for the Turner DNA Surname project. If someone wishes to test as part of the project, the test must be done through the Turner DNA Project and Family Tree DNA Company which is our sponsoring laboratory. The person tested, as you know, must be a male Turner with an unbroken male paternal line back to some particular male Turner of interest. If you would like to know more, check our the Turner DNA Project's website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~turnerdna/ Click on the word "results" on the left to see the many lines we have documented. We now have 158 members. There is a link there that says "join" where you can access a secure site to order a kit through the group at the group rate and so that your test results would be compared with the other Turners. I do hope you can find one of your male Turners who would do the test for you. We would love to be able to see you break through your wall on Henry Turner who married the Waddell gal. Gail R. The 1900 census for Davidson Co. TN lists Alonzo and Emma Turner as insurance agents. In 1920 only Emma is listed with 4 children. I have proceeded on the assumption that this is the correct Alonza Turner. ....... has photograph labeled "Mrs. Emma Turner" and it was taken in Nashville, TN. She also has an empty frame labeled "Uncle Lonnie" and that would probably be Alonza. The tombstone in Cobb Co., GA, says he died Sep 11, 1921. I am in Florida. My earliest known Turner was born in Georgia and the only ones I know of were in Georgia, Alabama or Tennessee. I believe the Turner name is one of the most common ones in Great Britain and I know a lot of Turners started out there. I don't think the online Family Tree Legends is associated with a magazine. You can check it out at http://www.familytreelegends.com/ I think my subscription was about 29 dollars and I didn't get the software. I subscribed when they were first starting up and it doesn't seem to me that they have added much since then. At least nothing that is helpful to me. They have quite a few books online and a lot of their info is in IL, Calif, TX, with absolutely nothing in the South (what I need). My husband is from Illinois so I did find a little on his family in their records. Good luck with your search.
