My Turners came to Canada from Dumbartonshire, Scotland and emigrated to Delaware County in the early 1820s. They had 6 sons and 1 daughter. (Malcolm[b.? d.?], James[ b. ? d.?], Thomas [b. 1821 d.?], Archibald [b.1831 NY d.1923], Robert [b.1828 NY;d.1898 Oakland, Ca.], George[b.1834 NY; d.1917 Oakland,Ca] and Ellen[b.? d.?]) I was told that Ellen and the first born son were born in Scotland. We were always told that the father's name was Alexander and his wife was Mary Shepard or Clark (from England) but I cannot find him in any census prior to 1850. There was an Alexander Turner living in Homer, NY in 1830, but it is the wrong Turner. I am also looking at Duncan Turner because he had two sons: Malcolm and Archibald in the right years. Malcolm Turner married Mary Foote [b.1835] in New York. James Turner married ? and had as children: Kate, James, Ellen and Frank. (no dates) Buffalo NY, I think. By 1850 Mary Turner (widowed) and sons were living in Buffalo, running a spirits, wines, and cordials shop. In the 1844 Buffalo Directory, I found son James Turner running the Spirits store. I can find the Turner Brothers bottles at auction for over $1500 a piece!!! Too bad we don't have any. By 1860s the brothers had shops in San Francisco, Buffalo, and NYC. Archibald Turner married Millie Griffin and became president of several banks in NYC. Their son, George Turner [b. ? d. 1912 NY] married Lillian Hutchinson. [b. 1882 d. 1971 Hollywood, ca] The Turner Brothers Bank was established sometime in the mid 1860s in NY during the railroad expansion and boom; the brothers came to NYC . It may have been a venture capital company. Robert Turner had married Rebecca Chester in 1858 in Buffalo in a double wedding when his brother George married Rebecca's sister, Elizabeth. They continued to run the San Francisco Spirits store until mid 1860s. Later, Robert and Rebecca lived in Frankfurt, Germany; London, England and New York running the Turner Brothers Bank in Germany from 1870-1873. After the Panic of 1873 when the Turner Brothers bank failed, Robert and George and families rode the trans-continental train west to Oakland, California in 1875. Robert and Rebecca Turner had 2 sons: Robert Chester [b. 1864 NY d. 1937 Berkley, Ca] and Edward M. [b. 1861] Both of these sons were graduates of the University of California and distinguished themselves as engineers. Robert Chester was well known as a mining engineer serving as Superintendent of Bodie Mines, La Fortuna, and Brunswick mines. He married Eugenia Wood, daughter of Reverend Wood, 1870 in Stockton, California. They had 3 children: Chester [b.1894], Howard [b. 1896] and Marjorie [b.1900 Berkeley, Ca.; d.1991 Walnut Creek, Ca] Marjorie Turner married Warren Deverel in 1823, probably in Oakland or Berkeley, California George had a son, Frederick Chester Turner [my grandfather] born in Buffalo NY in 1865 and a daughter Katherine Turner (known as "Kittie") in 1870. My Turner's moved to Ogdensburg in 1872 from Ontario, Canada. Elijah (Elige) Turner, Wife Mary Ann Ritcher, daughter Lizzy, son Thomas. They moved to Oswagacie, NY on to a Farm. If anyone can tell me more about them it woulbe great. Lynn Jarvis
My TURNER's came from Berkshire Co., MA to Steuben Co., NY very early 1800's.
I have a few Turners who left New England and resettled in upstate New York. So I'm interested. Charles F. Turner On Tue, 19 Jul 2005 06:54:48 -0700 (PDT) A Duncan <[email protected]> writes: > Is anyone interested in Turners who emigrated to and > lived in New York? > [email protected] > > >

Searching ancestry of John W. Turner, born circa 1820 (New York? England? Ireland?). (W = William?) He seems to have resided in Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York, 1850-1900, according to federal and state census records. He was usually enumerated with a Mary or Rose or Rose Mary, probably his spouse, and many children (ten or more?), including David C. Turner, my big fish. (C = Clarkson?) John W. Turner's occupation: a spinner in a carpet mill in Fishkill. The mill closed in the early 1870's. Many of the employees living in the community left the area, but John W. Turner and his family seem to have remained in the vicinity (Glenham). John W. Turner was listed in the 1880 federal census with Mary and only two children, Anne and Clarkson K. Eventually, John W. and Mary were listed alone in the 1892 state census, the last time they appeared in a census of Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. At this point John W. and Mary seem to have taken up magic: they disappear. Or, at least, no evidence of their continued existence can be found in records in New York or elsewhere in the U.S. Eventually, a Clarkson K. Turner turns up in the 1930 federal census in Vermont, with a wife and children born in Canada. About him and them I know nothing else. Anyway, my direct line: David C. Turner was born circa 1852. He seems to have married circa 1875, a Hattie (nee?). They were the parents of Hattie V. Turner, born 1875, and William A. Turner, born May 1880. This family resided north of Fishkill, in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County. David and Hattie seem to have separated or divorced before 1900. David may have married a second time, circa 1910, Amelia Knapp. Somehow, David acquired and owned land in Poughkeepsie on the southside. David C. Turner died in Poughkeepsie 1916, leaving his land to Amelia and William A. William A. Turner married circa 1900, Edith Pearl Roe. They were the parents of many children, including Marianna Turner, born 1912. She was my father's mother. William and Edith split up in the 1920's (probably owing to his infidelity, if family lore is to be believed), never to speak to one other again. William A. Turner died 1942. Edith Pearl (Roe) Turner died 1943. They were buried near each other, coincidence only, in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Marianna Turner married 1928 in Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County, New York, one Vernon Samuel Schoonmaker, my father's father. Thank you for your time. -Jeff Schoonmaker, searching Briggs, Schoonmaker, Turner, Wurster. ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs

Do you have a Caleb Turner, born 1769 in Southampton, Va and married Pheriby in 1791. I cannot find anything on Caleb's parents.
They are not at all the same. I have just recently posted information trying to say that. Please do not muddy the waters and confuse people on this by talking about paternity testing here. Gail R. Blancett Administrator Turner DNA Project

Charles, Thankyou so much for your reply. This the first info I have had on her and I really appreciate your taking the time to send it to me. All I have on her (until now:)) is her Father and Mother's (?)name. I have her Mother down as Thankful Childs. Everything you have told me matches up perfectly. Does the name Childs ring a bell. Where do your Turner's originate. THANKYOU, Linda
Donald and Listers: My brick wall is still George H. TURNER, born between 1842-1850 in Virginia. He had a sister Melissa Ann RICHARDSON born between 1855-1859, probably in Richmond, HENRICO County, and a brother Will (William?) Richardson. The Richardson siblings MAY have been children of David and Sarah Richardson. Census for 1860 Richmond shows a son George but not with last name Turner in the David and Sarah Richardson family, along with a daughter Melissa. George and family would have been living in the CAMPBELL County (just above Lynchburg) area in the 1880's.
