At an early age the family moved to Harrison, AR where he spent most of his youth. He was blessed with an older brother John and a baby sister NinaRuth. Both his parents and siblings preceded him in death. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army. While spending 6 years on this tour of duty, he fought in the Korean War with the 11th Combat Engineering Battalion. Soon after, Gene joined the U.S. Air Force where he served 16 years. Again he fought in another war, this time in Vietnam. In 1971, he retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. While stationed at Vance AFB in Enid, OK, he met and married Louella Hoffman. To this union, two sons were born. Gene passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004 with his sons Brian and Curtis and daughter-inlaw Karen by his side. The joy of his life was his grandchildren, Colton and Kayla. They will remember him for his! quiet ways and the dollar bills he always had in his pocket. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, niece, nephew, cousins and a host of friends and golfing buddies. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel with interment to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery. Published in the Oklahoman on 9/15/2004.
