Re: [TUCKER-L] New TUCKER Site and New England Tucker "taproots" To Ms. Kathy Tucker Leigh, Listowner, tucker-l@rootsweb.com Dear Ms. Kathy, We've communicated before, and as always, I'm very appreciative of your efforts... particularly this new New England Tucker list, since these are my primary concern, as they appear to by yours. I just wanted to test the waters regarding this new New England Tucker list by sharing my impressions regarding the origins of RI and MA Tuckers...and to see if anyone knows of any other New England Tuckers in the earliest pre-1700 timeframe which I haven't mentioned here. I've found that for Washington County, Rhode Island, otherwise known to us as "South" County....almost all Tuckers....I have about 3,000 currently on FTM database....almost all these Tuckers are descendants of Morris(1) Tucker b. abt. 1639, m.1 Elizabeth Stevens, m. 2 Elizabeth Gill, they of Salisbury, Essex County, MA by his son by his second wife Jabez(2) Tucker m. Rebecca Knight. Other descendants of Morris(1) Tucker include those by his sons who remained in nearby northeastern MA and nearby NH...this latter particularly by Morris (1)'s only child son by his first wife Elizabeth Stevens, who died in childbirth, i.e., their only son Benoni(2) Tucker. This Jabez(2) Tucker line of Charlestown/Westerly, Washington County, RI circa 1699 extends into nearby southeastern CT, and one branch of this line, starting with Silas(4) Tucker m. Mary Histed, of...Great Barrington, MA and nearby New York State, has numerous descendants in New York State today. A second RI branch of Morris(1) Tucker m. Elizabeth Gill with a considerable number of descendants is the Providence County, RI Tucker line by his son John(2) Tucker m.1 Tryphena Ham, m. 2. Abagail Hearndon. A third small RI branch of Tuckers which intermarried with the early Perry, Hoxie and Mott families of Washington County has an entirely separate origin via Henry Tucker d. 1694 Dartmouth, Bristol Co. MA. These are the only Tucker branches in New England that I am aware of in the earliest 1620-1700 timeframe....if there are others, I look forward to hearing about them. In the meantime, since I have such a complete database on Jabez(2) Tucker's descendants, I continue to monitor this list and Genforum, so that I can assist others in inquiries, and extend/correct my database when new primary source information is brought to my attention. Needless to say, I have extensive information about the South Kingstown RI Browning lines, as well as other "South" County RI lines close to the Jabez(2) Tucker line...families such as Eldred, Tefft, Congdon, Whaley, Cross, Larkin, Kenyon, Hoxie, Crandall, Babcock, Champlin, Hall, Ball, Card, Clarke, Knight, Weeden, Holley and Worden, if anyone has need of this information. . My very best regards, Barry Hale Browning(13)
