One of the lurkers here. I am still looking for information about another William Tucker, this one from Adair County, Kentucky. Those of you who have been around this list for a while see this posting about once a year. The exact birthplace of my William Tucker is unknown, but is thought to be somewhere in North Carolina in the 1760s. There is speculation that he might have been born or grew up in Rowan County, NC or nearby counties, but I have not been able to prove it conclusively. My trail of hard evidence begins when William Tucker shows up in Adair County, KY in 1802, where he is listed as a member of the Kentucky Cornstalk militia. He again enlisted in the military for the war of 1812, this time in Allen's Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers. Both military records show him as a resident of Adair County, KY. Most of Allen's Regiment, of which William Tucker was a member, were either killed or taken captive in the Battle for the River Raisin (near present day Detroit, MI) in January, 1813. William Tucker is believed to have been killed during that battle as he never returned home to his family in Kentucky and military records of the battle list him as "absent by permission", denoting either capture or death. In addition, my William Tucker shows up in an 1805 tax roll and the 1810 Adair County census as living on 140 acres near Wolf Creek (purchased from a man named Dunbar). He had six children -- five boys and a girl. My gg-grandfather, born 1804, is the only one whose name I know. William Tucker's wife is thought to have been Martha, perhaps Martha Ballinger or Martha Bellinger. Indeed, my gg-grandfather's middle name was Bellinger. There was another William Tucker, a veteran of the revolutionary war, who moved to Adair County, KY between 1812 and 1818. This William Tucker has sometimes been confused with my William Tucker, as they both lived in Adair county (10 years apart) but they are not the same person. Like others on this mailing list, I am hoping that there is someone out there who might be descended from my gg-grandfather's other five siblings and can provide more information about my William Tucker and his ancestry.
