Hi, I just received a copy of the pension application of Robert Tucker from the National Archives. There is a discrepancy in age recorded on the internet for him and what I find in the actual record. So, I thought that I would post this for those who are researching this line of Tuckers. I would also like to know the names of his children, if anyone knows, since the only reference in the document is to a daughter "upwards of 30 years old" (unnamed) and a couple of step-daughters (also unnamed). His wife is described as being 58 years of age. The opening statements are as follows: "State of North Carolina} Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions Lincoln County" } July Sessions 1827 On this 20th day of July in the year of our Lord 1827 personally appeared in open Court, being a Court of record opened and held for the County and state aforesaid ROBERT TUCKER aged between SIXTY-FIVE and SIXTY-SIX years old resident in said County of Lincoln and state aforesaid who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows in order to obtain the provision made by the acts of Congress of the 18th March 1888 and the 1st of May 1820; Viz: that in February in the year 1777 to the best of recollection, he the said ROBERT TUCKER enlisted for eighteen months in what was then called Amelia County State of VA in the company the name of the Captain of which he does not remember, and some short time after marched under Captain Samuel Booker to Fredericksburg, then was placed under the command of Major Anderson and marched from Fredericksburg near Philadelphis and when within nineteen miles of Philadelphiawas turned back and marched to Petersburg at that place met with the troops and all divided into three detachments when deponent was placed in the first consisting of four companies commanded by Captains Parker, Paine, Jones and Tollere(?) (*NOTE: I have seen this Captains name rendered as Talliaferro, but this spelling doesn't seem to be this particular surname. Of course, the transcriptionist could just have had difficulty spelling that surname???) (Actually, the name looks like it could be Tolliver or Tollene), deponent being in the company of Captain Tolliver?(again this is not a clear spelling). Colonels Parker and Hopkins, and immediately marched to Georgia and joined General Lincoln's army and marched to Savannah." This document is VERY lengthy so I won't post the whole thing. However, I did want to note the age discrepancy for Robert Tucker. On other net sites, I have seen that his pension began in April of 1828 and that his age was 72. He sure did age a lot in one year! So, I thought I would bring this to the attention of those researching the Lincoln Co. NC Tuckers. It is also interesting to note that he enlisted in Amelia County, VA. The George Tucker who is a Revolutionary Veteran from Rowan Co. is also listed as being from Amelia Co. Born there in 1745. From this pension application, Robert was born there in 1751/1752. So, could Robert and George be brothers? They settled in the same region of NC. Lincoln and Rowan are next door. Comments are most welcome. Joan, Is this the Robert Tucker who died abt 1845 in Stokes Co., NC? Wife Elizabeth and son Anderson? If so I have him, and the George Tucker you mentioned, and Thomas Tucker b. October 14, 1750 d, abt 1837 in Warren Co TN as probable brothers. Mary
