I am wondering > if this isn't a mispronunciation of the surname of POTTS. Yes, it is very likely. Ross and Potts are two old names here. "Potts Knob" is located right where my Tuckers lived near the White and Cumberland Co line. I'm still working on the Wm Tucker of Bledsoe and White Co both born abt 1800... I can't prove it but I feel they are the same person. Digging in deeds and neighbors to try and sort them out... After all these years thinking my Elijah was b. in NC because of an ancestor's old letter I finally checked myself and he was b. in TN according to 3 census records :-{ His grandson that wrote the letter probably meant his father... It would REALLY help me if he wasn't missed in the 1850 census, Ha! Not strange around here as his son, my great grandfather was also missed in the 1880 census but he was here for sure! I got so disgusted I've left off working on Tucker for a while and have been working on my mother's line, Lawson. There are as hard to find as the others of course... What Potts are you related to? I have a few in my database. Mary
