    3. Benny, I am pretty sure that my William married Lula Broadaway, he was in Craighead Co, Arkansas as was Lula before they were married and their first two children were born there also before they moved to Dallas, Texas. Was your William also born in the TIppah Co, Mississippi area? Mine was on the 1880 census for Tippah Co, then the earliest I have found him in Craighead County, Ar is 1897 and the 1900 Craighead census with wife Lula, ; dau Joyce; son George and sister Lula Tucker. Then he shows up in Dallas in the 1930 census. 3. Brenda, I am trying to work on this family and wasn't sure you had this so I thought if might be helpful to you or others. If you can add this please contact me. Thanks, Marsha Hamilton.........at MsHamiton@kih.net When Lundenburg Co., Va was formed from Amelia Co., VA, Robert Tucker's father GEORGE's property was placed in the new county. After GEORGE TUCKER died, in 1784, ROBERT TUCKER inherited the home place along with 100 ACRES of property. He lived there with his mother until 1792 and then he sold it and moved to Halifax Co., VA. ( So his son, ANDERSON (Marsha's ancestor) was probably born in Lundenburg County) I 'm not sure if ROBERT'S MOTHER moved with him or if she died prior to that. Around 1815 ROBERT and SARAH, and their SON, ANDERSON removed from HALIFAX CO., to STOKES CO., NC. SARAH died there. between 1830 and 1840. I believe ROBERT remarried after her death to ELIZABETH ABBOTT but, there was no issue. He died in STOKES CO., NC ca 1844 ============================================================================ ======== THE WILL OF ROBERT TUCKER Transcribed from a copy of the original by Charles Wayne Good, Sr of Wyoming The original Will is located in the Sept, 1844 file at the DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL RESOURCES DIVISION OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY Archives and Records Section 109 E. 3. I agree about the birthplaces, but given the correspondence of location, wife's name and middle initial, children's names and initials, I would want to see the actual image of the 1880 census. The wrong data could have been copied for b.p.'s, or the wrong person could have given the (incorrect)info to the census taker in either the 1870 or the 1880 census, probably the 1870 one. And I have seen a lot of false dittoing of b.p.'s by the census takers (assumption or laziness?). I did check and there is no Len, Leonard, or other likely L. Tucker in KY in 1870 index. Ditto for TN. On the other hand, Tucker is a frustratingly common name <sigh>. --- Acltk2@aol.com wrote: > Yes, I try to take a look at any original image > I can get my hands on. > Sometimes I can make out two or three > believable names from one entry :) > > I could buy the Levi as an alternate reading, > but it would seem unusual for > the enumerator to mistakenly write down > something as distinctive as the > sequence "Tennessee Georgia Tennessee" that was > given in 1880 for Len/Levi's place of > birth and that of his parents. 2. Does anyone in the Levi Tucker line have a James Tucker born 1830 or 1833? He had a sister Elizabeth or Catherine. Do not know if she is older or younger than James. James and Elizabeth/Catherine moved to Putnam County and Orange County,Fl. It is said James is from Ga on every census and family says he came from Ireland via Ky. Any help or clues are greatly appreciated. Gloria

    2. One other thing, it's entirely possible that mistaken data was offered entirely innocently at one time or another; they could even have been correcting what they had thought was the right information earlier. "Ky Ky Ohio" versus "Tn Ga Tn" On the other hand, it's really funny how a couple of my female ancestors routinely got younger as each census went by. Elaine

    2. Yes, I try to take a look at any original image I can get my hands on. Sometimes I can make out two or three believable names from one entry :) I could buy the Levi as an alternate reading, but it would seem unusual for the enumerator to mistakenly write down something as distinctive as the sequence "Tennessee Georgia Tennessee" that was given in 1880 for Len/Levi's place of birth and that of his parents. I think this would be the most important evidence that this is not the same individual that was listed in 1870 with " Ky Ky Ohio". 3. Mary, The remark you mentioned below was from Sarah, of whom, I have had to contact in a couple years. Frankly, I am at a lost as to the connects of Caswell. I do know there were a lot of Tuckers that came from NC into Hawkins, Hancock, Bledsoe, and Bradley counties of Tennessee and I have data own most of them. This is why it is easy to believe the relationships. However, you reiforced something I HAD thought of before, but could not prove and that is the sibling connection of Caswell and Elijah Tucker, etc. I think I even have the White Co. line but will need to search for it. How complete is your line? Could you send me a PDF of it, so I can compare your research and names with that which I have done, etc. Dr. Alton loveless Bells <maryanddonbell@multipro.com> wrote: Alton Loveless wrote: >Will you please tell me why at least some Caswell researchers assign him birth in Stokes County, N.C. William Tucker 1830 Bledsoe Co TN pg. 275 I'm convinced one of these 3 Tuckers is the father of my ancestor Elijah Tucker b. 1832 in TN in the exact same area these other Tuckers lived in tho he is not listed in the 1850 TN census records! My Elijah's grandson said that his family was from the Winston-Salem, NC area. That was Stokes Co. back then. Elijah Tucker b. 1796 in Stokes Co., NC who m. Rebecca Morris there March 02, 1818. Rebecca's father is listed on the 1810 Stokes Co NC Census: 142 27 597 Morris Shadrak, 3 1 1 1 0 1 1 0 1 0 0 0 Germantown District Salem. Caswell and Elijah Tucker are still in Bledsoe Co. TN in 1840 and William is now listed in White Co. TN very near them still. I have researched most of their neighbors during this time frame and many of them were also from Stokes Co NC. The only other mention of Tucker before 1830 in Bledsoe Co TN is: 2-1813 Bledsoe Co TN Deed Book B p. 63 ...Bill of Sale ... William C. Tucker of county of Nottoway, VA to William Rippeto of county of Bledsoe ... $250.00 ... one Negro boy slave for life, named George ... abt 9 yrs. of age. There are no Tuckers listed in Bledsoe co TN in 1820. Nottoway Parish of Amelia County VA... Love to hear from anyone interested in Tuckers from Stokes Co NC or Amelia Co Va. I believe there is some connection between those lines. Mary ==== TUCKER Mailing List ==== REMEMBER: Quote only the relative part of the message you are replying to, not the entire message. 3. My husband is related to the Tucker's of Stokes Co. NC. I know that the Tuckers, Steel/Steele's, Hawkins, and Caswell's were all in KY at some point and could have stopped off in TN. My husband's GGGG Grandfather was Anderson Tucker s/o Robert Tucker. Anderson was born in Stokes Co and migrated to LaRue Co. KY with his brother Paul. Anderson's daughter Letitia/Letty married William Steel in Stokes Co. then also migrated to LaRue Co. KY. There were Caswells (surname) also in Hart and Hardin Counties in KY at the same time. Perhaps this is the family your Caswell was named after. Look forward to corresponding with anyone related to the Stokes County NC Tuckers. I have estate records for Robert Tucker which names his children etc. Brenda Bells <maryanddonbell@multipro.com> wrote: Alton Loveless wrote: >Will you please tell me why at least some Caswell researchers assign him birth in Stokes County, N.C. I am one of the researchers who believe Caswell Tucker was probably from the Stokes Co. NC area. 1. [TUCKER-L] BRIDPORT, England TUCKER families
    2. susan mccall
    3. My Tucker research has resulted in me having much information on Bridport, Dorset,England, Tucker families. If anyone thinks there Tuckers originated from Bridport I would welcome an exchange of information. I am still looking for Richard Tucker born in 1856 at Bridport but left in rather a hurry around 1900. It is thought he went to Canada or the US. He was a solicitor (attorney) in England. It is possible that he changed his name and may not have revealed too much about his past. It is unlikely that he continued to practise law. England had very many Tucker families and my knowledge is restricted to Bridport and nearby in Dorset. Sue
