Looking for Nathan Tucker, from Hampshire Co VA (now WV, where he was in his father's estate papers. His father, Joseph Tucker died in 1816. Nathan is in the census in 1830 and supposedly "moved west..." perhaps Missouri, though, haven't found him in the census in 1840... Any Nathan descendants? Brad

Hello, I hven't posted for a long, long time. So, I thought that I would try again. Hopefully, someone will connect. If you do, or if you have questions concerning my line of Tuckers please email me at joanflatt@yahoo.com Thanks in advance for any information that you might have. Here is some of the info on our line of Tuckers: Aaron was born in Maryland circa 1768. He first appears on record in 1800 in Rowan Co. NC (living alone). He married in 1800 to Nancy HAGGINS. He petitioned for divorce from her in 1811 in Rowan Co. NC. In the petition he says that they had 2 children during the time that they lived together as man and wife and that she left him "in the company of one Michael HINKLE for the 'new countries'." The term 'new countries' is later defined as KY. In researching a bit on Nancy, it is found that her eldest son was apparently George M. HINKLE (Mormon). He was born in 1801 in Jefferson Co. KY. Aaron purchased land from William HINKLE 'of Shelby Co. KY (cut from Jefferson) in 1802. This land was in Rowan Co. NC. It was ' on the waters of Buffalo Creek' "on the waters of the Yadkin" (forks of the Yadkin). It is probable that Aaron negotiated this land deal in KY and that he married Nancy in KY (probably AFTER the 1800 census were taken). Nancy's next oldest child was William HINKLE who was born in 1803. And, apparently the one with which she was pregnant was Rebecca born in Aug of 1804 (after Nancy had left Aaron). Aaron can be found on other records in Rowan Co. until 1814. He isn't on the 1815 tax list and his next oldest child, James B. Tucker was born in KY in 1816. Aaron can be tracked by the births of his children. He finally settled in Johnson/Pulaski Co. IL. Aaron's wife at the time of his death and on IL census records was named Frances and in one instance was also called Nancy (this one was after Aaron's death). Maybe "Nancy" was a nickname for Frances?? Aaron moved to Johnson/Pulaski Co. IL in the 1830's. His home was used as a polling place for early elections. And, his home was apparently located where William Heisner later lived. Aaron had several children. And, most of them remained in the southern IL reagion. Aaron had the following children: William Anderson TUCKER---born 1813 in Rowan Co. NC. This is my line and, with the exception of a short time in 1870, when he and the other children were settling Aaron's estate etc., he moved to and lived in Reynolds Co. MO. He married Elizabeth SMITH in 1833 in Lawrence Co. AR. James B. Tucker---born 1816 in Kentucky (I don't know what county but probably Jefferson/Shelby). He patented land in Pulaski Co. IL on 28 July 1838. He first married Mary Catherine WALKER, who apparently died after the 1870 Census (in which she is listed) and before 1874 when James remarried. He next married Sarah J.T. SMITH on 5 November 1874 in Johnson Co. IL. James Children were: 1. Christopher TUCKER born in 1843 in IL 2. Andrew J. TUCKER born in 1845 in IL (served in CW) 3. Barbara Cahterine TUCKER born 1847 in IL. She married Charles E. HALL on 22 February 1874. 4. Mary Ann TUCKER born 1849 in IL; died before 1860. 5. Elvira TUCKER born 1853 in IL; married Jacob McCULLUM on 22 February 1866 in Pulaski Co. IL. 6. John A. TUCKER born in 1858 in IL. He married circa 1870 to Harriet A.____. He next married Mary C. MEDDERS/MEADORS on 13 December 1885 in Massac Co. IL. 7. Hester TUCKER born 1861 in IL. Matilda TUCKER---was born about 1822/23 in AL (probably Franklin Co.) She first married John STEPHENSON on 4 October 1838 in Johnson Co. IL. She next married a man with the surname of HAVENS. She then married Samuel JOHNSON on 22 January 1870 in Massac Co. IL. Matilda and John STEPHENSON had the following children: 1. George W. STEPHENSON born 1843 in IL 2. Jasper N. STEPHENSON born 1845 in IL. He first married Caroline HALL. He next married MRS. Sarah E. STEPHENSON on 15 April 1877. The then married Cordelia MORSE, daughter of John and Mary (LEDBETTER) MORSE on 15 September 1878. His death date is unknown. 3. Thomas S. STEPHENSON was born 1848 in MO. He married Pernesa HAVENS on 22 May 1871. His death date is unknown. 4. Emily J. STEPHENSON was born 1850 in AR. 5. Jno. W. STEPHENSON was born 1854 in AR. Malinda TUCKER---was born 25 April 1825 in White Co. TN. She married Calvin KITCHELL in 1844 in Pulaski Co. IL. He was born 11 April 1825 to Moses and Elizabeth (RANEY)KITCHELL in Ripley Co. IN. He died 31 May 1902 in Iron Co. MO. Malinda died 11 Sept. 1900 in Iron Co. MO. Calvin and Malinda had the following children: 1. Sylvester KITCHELL born 1845 in IL. He first married Mary E. KELLEY RHODES, then Dicey (CAMPBELL) HINSON. He died in 1926 in MO. 2. John R. KITCHELL born 1847 in AR. He married Martha L. DUTY on 9 November 1865 in Iron Co. MO. He died in 1898 in MO. 3. He married Eliza Jane FOX on 27 October 1878 in Reynolds Co. MO. He had other marriages as well, although no information is available. He died in 1905 in AR. 6. William W. KITCHELL born 1854 in IL. He mararied Jane Ruth MILLER on 12 December 1878 In Reynolds Co. MO. He died in 1900 in OK. 7. Agustus "Gus" KITCHELL was born 22 February 1857 in IL. He first married Charlotte Jane FORD in Reynolds Co. MO. She was born 20 September 1855 and died 10 October 1884 in Dixon Valley near Ellington, MO. He next married Lizzie May McNABB in 1889. She was born 4 February 1867 and died 13 November 1927. Gus died 29 March 1951 (probably in Hillsboro, MO) 8. George Washington KITCHELL born 17 February 1859 in MO. He married Cynthia Lucinda ELLIS in February 1886 in MO. He died 5 July 1951 in MO. John TUCKER---born 1824 in TN/AR. He married first married Malina____. He then married MRS. Rebecca HALL. She was the widow of James HALL. John was deceased by 1882 when there was a division of his estate. His children were by Malina (per his CW pension application) They were: 1. Eliza A. TUCKER born 1852 in AR. She first married John W. HALL on 8 July 1869. She married 2nd to F.M. WILLIAMS on 20 December 1874. 2. Benjamin F. TUCKER born 1853 in IL 3. Hester TUCKER born 1861 in IL Frances TUCKER----born in 1833 in Lawrence Co. AR. She married first to a man with the surname of KITCHELL. Maybe this was a brother to her sister, Malinda's, husband???? She had one son by him (that we know of). His name was James KITCHELL. She next married William J. THOMPSON. He was a blacksmith. The date and place of the marriage is unknown. William was born in OH. His death date is unknown. Frances was living in November of 1897 when she petitioned the court for the estate of her brother Henry L. W. TUCKER. The children of William and Frances are as follows: 1. Hester THOMPSON born in 1865 in IL 2. Rosa THOMPSON born in 1867 in IL; married Samuel PRICE on 14 July 1889; married 2) John READ on August 29, 1896; married 3) Charles F. LILLY on September 8, 1900. 3. Perry Lee (female)/ Perri Lee born 1860; married James Frederick PRICE on 14 July 1889 (brother to Samuel) 4. Thomas THOMPSON born 1871 in IL. 5. Lydia THOMPSON born 1874 in IL 6. Amelia THOMPSON born 1875 in IL. Andrew J. TUCKER---born 7 July 1836 in IL. He first married Tennessee C. BAND/BLAND? She died November 6, 1856. He next married Nancy C. (WILSON) SAINT on 7 April 1857. She was born 1825 in TN. She died before 18 Mar. 1899 in Ohio Precinct, Pulaski Co. IL. Andrew and Nancy had the following children: 1. Thomas Aaron TUCKER born 11 March 1858 in IL. He married Margaret "Maggie" Emaline/Evaline YOUNG on 24 December 1879 in Reynolds Co. MO. 2. Missouri/Messera TUCKER born 1860 in IL and died before 1899. 3. Ellen V. TUCKER born 1864 in IL. She married John L. HARDER on 9 September 1889 in Pulaski Co. IL. 4. Fredonia TUCKER born 24 February 1859 in IL. She married a man with the surname of REESE. Henry L.W. TUCKER--- born 1838 in IL. He is described as being "incompetent" in a court document (a petition of a "friend" John CRUM to handle his affairs). His sister, Frances R. THOMOPSON petitioned the court for his estate. She described herself as a "creditor" for the estate. So, it is probable that he lived with her and her family. He never married and he died on 23 December 1896 in Creal Springs, Williamson Co. IL. If you have any information on any of the above-mentioned families, I would be most grateful. I would most definitely like to hear of any descendants of any of the above. Sincerely, Joan (Tucker) Flatt _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? " - CCS1101@aol.com I found "Leroy Tucker" listed with George Tucker in the 1833 Tax List for White Co TN in Capt. Anderson's Co. Leroy has no land listed and is taxed 1 poll. George Tucker has 82 acres. I own a CD of the White Co Tax Lists and I'm going thru it name by name as I have several surnames I'm researching. Very time consuming! So far I'm up to 1834 and these are the only two Tuckers mentioned so far other than Aaron Tucker who was last mentioned in 1825 Capt. Cook's Co. and Capt. Harris's Co. Also of note... 1827 tax list - "George Tucker, Sr." 90 acres no polls. Capt. Riley Jones's Co. I will post new info as I find it. Mary

I had a grandfather in West Virginia killed by a train while walking the tracks to visit a cemetery in the early 1070's. He was a Jehovah Witness, and I think they all consider themselves to be ministers. His name was Ernest, though. -----Original Message----- From: Acltk2@aol.com [mailto:Acltk2@aol.com] Sent: Monday, August 09, 2004 5:06 PM To: TUCKER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TUCKER-L] Isaac Tucker news story & Obit Could you please tell us which state this occurred in? Wow, very interesting about the Isaac name. This occurred in Georgia. Sorry, I didn't realize the state was not mentioned.

Hi, This is the story of Mr. Isaac Tucker Killed While Going to Church as it appeared in the Moultrie Weekly Observer, Friday, August 31, 1900, page 4. Daughter Julia was my husband's grandmother. (She said the horse was also killed although it is not in this article.) If anyone would like a copy of the article please let me know. KILLED BY LIGHTNING Mr. Isaac Tucker Killed While Going to Church. Mr. Isaac Tucker, one of the county's most popular and progressive young farmers was killed by lightning about three miles below Autreyville Friday afternoon. Mr. Tucker lives eight miles above Moultrie, and with his daughter, Julia, was on his way to Harmony church in the lower part of the county, where an annual meeting was in session. He stopped at the home of a negro named Henry Hancock and sought shelter from a rain under the front end of a barn. He and his daughter were standing close to each other and he was holding his horse, when the fatal stroke came. The current seems to have passed through the roof overhead and struck Mr. Tucker in the head cutting the flesh in several places on the head and neck and killing him instantly. The daughter was also stricken to the ground, and did not recover consciousness for many hours. The negro, Henry Hancock was standing across the road and witnessed the occurrence. The remains of Mr. Tucker were returned to his home and were buried Sunday at Bridge Creek cemetery. Mr. Tucker was a son of the late Elder Crawford Tucker, famously known as the father of 32 children. Of the 32, nineteen, (14 boys and 5 girls) survive to mourn the tragic death of their brother. He leaves a wife and six children also. He was a brother to policeman Noah Tucker, deputy sheriff E. W. Tucker, County surveyor, Mathew Tucker, Elder Ansel Tucker and others of the family who are the best known and most popular citizens of the county.

Someone advise me; always hate to see correspondence go offline from a board as others could also benefit, but not sure how lengthy a post we should place at one time. Feel free to contact me. George Tucker looks to be the oldest of 10 children from what is here; he was born 3/10 1810 to Simeon & Nancy Dunn Tucker. 5. SIMEON3 TUCKER (GEORGE2, THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1786 in WIlkes County, GA, and died November 07, 1856 in Neshoba County, MS. He married (1) NANCY DUNN February 04, 1808 in Baldwin County, GA. She was born Abt. 1790 in NC, and died Abt. 1883 in Leake County, MS. He married (2) NANCY DUNN February 04, 1808 in Baldwin County, GA. At least 4 of Simeons children including George (Wm. L., Simeon J. and another for sure) went to Upshur Co, TX from what I understand. They migrated to TX in the 1850s. I was concentrating on George since my ancestor was a Geo and this one could be an appropriate age to be his father. I then found him as a Geo. Washington Sr., first with a birthdate of 1809 in Washington, Wilkes Co, GA; died 12/28 1880 and is buried in the Simpsonville Cemetery in Upshur Co. Carol confirmed this is where some of her line is buried including their George. His spouse is listed as Lucinda Jones 11/13 1830(marriage) Maplesville, Bibb Co, AL. The next reference I found does lists Geo as being the son of Simeon & Nancy. Then found Simeons son Wm L. & wife Elizabeth in Upshur Co 1880 census 3 residences from my Geo D. and keeps me thinking they were connected. J.M. is James Madison, born July 7, 1820, m. Amy Hart, died Feb. 21, 1898. He is buried in Simpsonville Cemetery. Feel free to contact me and will share the file shared with me. There must have been family story about it. I tried attaching to a previous message a picture of my gg grandmother, Julia Delaney Tucker, at a young age (20's maybe) and it has been said she looks like she could have had Indian features?? The message did not post with the picture. My gg grandfather, Mason Samuel Tucker, Julia's husband, and family came from NY or Canada and traveled to WI in the late 1860's and one of the great grand uncles went to Lawrenceburg, TN about 1906 and died there on May 12, 1907. I've wondered if he went there because there were other Tucker relation living there. I understand that the Lawrenceburg newspapers from 1906 and 1907 were lost. I tried to find out if there was some newsworthy event as to why Charles Samuel Tucker died there. Does anyone have Tuckers from Lawrenceburg, Lawrence Co., TN? Jeremiah is burried in Clay co Louisville ILL. I think that Johnathan was his father but cant prove it. Jeremiah had a son Jeremiah, who Married Elizabeth Blair Daughter of Robert Blair and Martha Banks .Elizabeth and Jeremiah had 3 sons the youngest died young that was Joseph and the other two Stephen and Robert moved to Wisconsin.Elizabeth remarried a Stroud this is were I lost her. Becouse of her age they may be children there. Now here is another thought to ponder there was a Chase Tucker who is listed as a Indian agent for the Indian tribe Shawnee in the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes area. He is written in great length in many of the Draper papers. Who is this man does anyone know? Drapper states that he lived among them and was greatly respected by no other than Tecumseh him self. Have you found him in the 1850 census? What other Tucker Families are near him? Any clues to his parentage. I'm not a descendant, just an interested Tucker Researcher. Brad, I found Achellis (aka "Kellis") in the 1860 VA Census Kanawha County. I cannot find him in 1850. In the 1870 WV Census Kanawha County, there is a Calvin Tucker listed with Achellis' wife and children. Calvin could really be Achellis, the age is off by 2 years, which isn't always a big deal with the census records. But what confuses me is that there appears to be another family living with them. There aren't anymore adults listed, but many children. One of the children is listed as "M" for mulatto, and five children listed as black. Also, there happens to be a couple of Calvin Tuckers in that area so I'm still trying to sort them all out. In the 1880 (WV, Kanawha County) census, he's listed as Kellis. The last census he appears in is 1900. There are other Tucker families around him. I also found an older Achellis Tucker in the census, can't remember which year, at the moment. More than likely it's his father, but I try not to assume things until I have proof. :-) Anyway, this is the line that makes me crazy...
