Hello Fran and Kathy....... Concerning "William Tucker" This may be of little help, as I also am looking for information on William. However may I offer, my William was born 16 Feb 1813, wish I knew where. He married 26 March 1839 (where???) a Nancy Dealy (she was suppose to be a twin) her birth was 22 Sept. 1822. They had one child a son (more then that unknown) James Patterson 3 May in (? Providence) North Carolina. Married in April 1893 or 1895? Barlow Oregon, Martha Elizabeth Powers. Birth year for Martha 1851 . Old family story has it that she Martha walked to Oregon behind a covered wagon as a small child? Martha died in 1931 Seattle, Kings county Wash. I hope this might be of some help as I am attempting to learn more about my "William" As a side issue, if it would be of any help I also have some information concerning other names that were also in the wagon train.....Savage, Foren and Prine that settled in Oregon and Idaho. Kathy, welcome to the Tucker clan. I'm interested in your William Tucker. Do you have any data on him? Like a birthdate, marriage or anything. My Mother was a Tucker from Tennessee and I live there now. Fran (TennFran@aol.com)
Hello list, just joined so thought I'd post my Tucker interests. My grandmother was Caroline Susan Tucker, b. 17th May 1884 in Kingsbridge. Her parents were Edward Tucker and Mary Jane Gillham. Edward was a baker and was born in St Sidwell, Exeter on 27th August 1884. At the time of marriage both Edward and Mary Jane lived in Culllompton. His parents were Harry Randll Tucker and Eliza Delve who married in 1842. Harry was a scrivener and attorney's clerk. His father was William Tucker, a shoemaker. At the time of marriage Harry lived in Tiverton. I'd love to make contact with others researching this part of the family. Other names I'm researching in Devon are Steer, Dimond, Delve and Gillham. Hope to hear from someone! Kathy
There was a fire that destroyed a lot of birth records in OK. I was born in OK and was able to get mine before the fire. Those looking now may have a problem.
April, Have you tried for a death certificate in OK? These can yield a lot of information. I found the name of a great-great grandmother on the death certificate of my great-grandfather. I don't know what year OK started requiring death certificates, but it was probably before 1920 and it is worth a shot, if you haven't already tried this avenue. It should also give you his state of birth. Keep in mind, however, that the information is only as good as the person;s knowledge that was submitting it. Sometimes they really didn't know where the deceased was born etc. Good luck. Joan (Tucker) Flatt --- "April S. Marlene, Not all of Geroge and Jemima's children have been identified (that I know of). And, in his will he says that he wants his TWO younger children (Lieu/Lew/Lue and Mary "Polly") to be made equal to his older children. He doesn't name these older children. But, this suggests that Jemima was not a first wife. It also suggests that there was property or estate settled on elder children. Hopefully, someone will locate something of this nature. There are so many George Tuckers in this general region of NC that they are hard to differentiate. Maybe someone on list will have some information. Thanks for your response. There was a James Tucker who migrated from Rowan to Jefferson Co. TN in 1803. Is this your James? Joan, after all these years I'm still trying to connect my James Tucker, Sr., born 1759, in Halifax Co., NC, to some part of your Tucker family. As you may recall, James says in his Rev War Pension application that his father's name was Robert (possibly born sometime between 1709-1739). He mentions a cousin Lewis from Guilford Co., NC who took his place in the War after he was injured. I still think that these families are connected. Perhaps James' father Robert was a brother to your George, Sr. Still you don't show a Lewis among the children of George and Jemima. Maybe there was another brother of George, Sr. also living in Guilford Co. at that time. Maybe something in our information will ring a bell with someone on the list. I have children of James, Sr. as James, Jr., John, Nancy, Julia, Wyley and Elizabeth, but not all are confirmed. I know what you mean about taking a breather from the Tucker research--I've done the same thing because I'm at a dead end as to James Sr.'s ancestors. >Hi, >I am back to the Tucker research after taking a >"breather" from it for some time. Hi, I am back to the Tucker research after taking a "breather" from it for some time. I thought that I might be able to gain a fresh perspective if I rested from it for a while. I found some information to the effect that William Tucker who married Matilda COATES was the son of George Tucker who married Jemima MALONE. This lineage further states that this George was the son of another William who was born in Charles City Co. VA in 1691. This William's wife is supposedly Elizabeth MICHAUX(?), daughter of Abraham and Suzanne (ROCHET) MICHAUX. This William is supposedly the son of Captain Robert Tucker who married Elizabeth COLEMAN. In additional information, I find that George (who married Jemima) was born September 4, 1723 in Bristol Parrish, Prince Georges County, VA. Jemima's birthdate is given as circa 1725 Their childre are listed as: Samuel TUCKER Robert TUCKER George TUCKER, JR. William TUCKER Nathaniel TUCKER born between 1756-1760 John TUCKER born 1763 NC Ruhama TUCKER born 1764 Guilford, N.C. Enoch TUCKER It is my theory that the George W. Tucker who was in White Co. TN on census and tax lists, was probably this George TUCKER, JR. William also had a son named George. I have recently been told by another Tucker researcher that this George W. Tucker of White Co. TN is the same George Tucker mentioned in the Goodspeed history of Madison Co. AR. He is mentioned as "George Tucker drove the first wagon to this section in the fall of 1828, from Cane Hill, Washington County. With Samuel and Daniel Vaaughan, he had explored the region in the previous spring. Tucker settled on what is known as the Sheridan Bottom, on the border of Washington County." There was a story in our family that some of our family were headed from MO to the "Boston Mountains" in AR, when one of the family members became ill and some of them remained behind in MO. In another Goodspeed reference we find that "The settlers on White River prior to 1834 were: ROBERT TUCKER, who came from Cape Girardeau County, MO" He "arrived in September of 1833 with a LARGE FAMILY OF GROWN SONS." Also among the settlers named is the father of CLEVE ESTEP (one of our ladies married an ESTEP), William TUCKER of NC. This could have been one of Robert's GROWN SONS??? In another reference, I find that "There is a long history of migration from the various counties that make up Middle TN into Madison Co. AR. Since the "Boston Mountains extend east and west across the southern part of the county, between the head-waters of White and Mulberry Rivers", I am very interested in the Tuckers who settled in this region. Can anyone expand on the above information? Joan _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Declare Yourself - Register online to vote today! http://vote.yahoo.com
Does anyone know who S.D. Tucker of White Co. TN is? He is mentioned in the following land record? 1818 White Co. Hello, I am wondering if anyone has any information on the George W. Tucker who was in White Co. TN in the 1820's. Was he the son of William Tucker (who was the son of George Tucker and Jemima Malone)? I think this William married a Needham, but I'm not sure. It has been a while since I have worked on the Tucker lineage. I do know that the George that married Jemima had a son named George and a son named William. I also know that George Jr. also had a son named George and so did William. Since William supposedly migrated on to this general vicinity in TN, I was wondering if this George W. might not be his son, George. Also, does anyone know if this George W. was the same George who had a land transaction in White Co. TN in 1818? Any information would be very welcome. Thanks in advance, Joan __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Address AutoComplete - You start. We finish. http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail

John Henry Tucker and Florence Ellen Selph were my grandparents and I am searching for our ancestors and extended family. I believe his father to be JOHN WESLEY TUCKER. born about 1837 in Maryland. He is listed in the U.S. Enrollment Records for Ann Arundel County, dated Oct 29, 1862., as being an "able-bodied male citizen"., in the 6th Election District of said county. His post office is listed as Friendship, Md. Saint Mary's Co., Maryland . He is listed as having 'gone south', which indeed, he did! He enlisted in Capt. R. Snowden Andrew's 1st Maryland Artillery CSA in Fredericksburg, Va. on June 27, 1861. On April 7, 1862, in Caroline Co.,Va., he married FANNIE COVINGTON, daughter of James Covington and Mary Chenault . John W. Tucker was discharged from service at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond on October 29, 1864. He spent the rest of his life in Caroline Co, VA., dying there on December 23, 1895... Brief history of the Tucker family from Maryland and Caroline Co., Va. In 1941, the United States Government bought more than 298 acres of my grandfather's old home place, which is now Fort A.P.Hill... "As they watched the military jeeps and trucks passing by their home, they knew pretty soon they would have to live somewhere else". JOHN W. TUCKER purchased land from Frank Richerson's "Butler Plantation" in Caroline County. The house was built in 1820 by Edmerend Pendleton who also built "Edmonsbury" and "White Plains" near Sparta, Va. Later, my grandparents purchased this property from John Henry's father and more property adjoining this. JOHN HENRY TUCKER, born and raised in Caroline County, VA,, built the first "sweet potato houses" on his property in Caroline Co., Va.. Other farmers, as far away as Culpepper, Va., used these houses. Sweet potato's were stored and cured in these houses for approximately 6 weeks. Stoves were used to keep a temperature of 70 degrees before they were then shipped to Washington, D.C. where they were later shipped to the Safeway Grocery Stores. The Tucker family raised about 2,000 bushels of sweet potatoes every year. John Henry Tucker would hire 12-15 men for two weeks every year, to help dig sweet potatoes. His wife Florence prepared and served three meals a day for the workers. During the winter, in the deep snows, is when the sweet potatoes would sell the best. Crops of tobacco, cucumbers and corn were also raised in large quantities. They had four horses used in the early years for farming of the land. It was only in the later years that they purchased tractors to do the work. Corn and wheat was taken to Cook's Mill to be ground. I remember my mother talking about what a treat it was to trade a few eggs for a bag of candy at an old store near the mill which is still standing. John and Florence Tucker's 8 Tucker children had to walk about 2 miles to catch the bus to Sparta school. The first car John Henry bought was a 4 door, 1935 Chevrolet which he bought for $999.00 from Blatt Chevrolet in Milford. That was a lot of money then and he paid for it in cash. John Henry and Florence Ellen Tucker were good, honest people. Often John Henry would say, "my word is my bond" and many business deals were made with just a handshake. The Tucker's had a lot of friends in Caroline County, and if anyone ever needed some help, everyone would pitch in. I can imagine how they felt while watching military jeeps and trucks passing by, for they knew it was the beginning of the government buying their land that they were so proud of and had worked so hard on... Now they'd have to live somewhere else!

Peter I have extensively researched the Tuckers of Bridport. John 1834 is not on my tree. However I have some info. on unrelated Bridport Tuckers. I am helping my daughter to move house today and tomorrow so haven't time to look. Should have time at the weekend and will get back to you then, either way. Would welcome contact with any other Bridport Tucker descendants. Sue
Looking for connections for John Tucker, born 19 April 1834 in Bridport, Dorset, England (or possibly in Westminster - both are given in Royal Navy documents). He was a shoemaker by trade but joined the Royal Navy on the eve of the Crimean War and served from 22 February 1854 till 8 March 1874. A drawing made my him on board HMS Emerald turned up on the Island of Nantucket, Massachusetts a couple of years ago; it can be see on my website at http://home.wxs.nl/~pbdavis/EmeraldGale.htm . I have full details of his RN career, which I still have to add to this page. Hi Listers, My Nathan Tucker was born in SC to John Tucker (who was born in England). Nathan had a brother, Joseph. I have been trying to make a connection via naming pattern with a Nathan Tucker as well as a Joseph Tucker in previous generations. John's first born son was Nathan, which according to naming patterns of the era, should have been named after John's father, who was probably Nathan. John's second born son was named Joseph, but I think the second born son was generally named for the wife's father, which in this case, would have been true. The next 2 generations were named Joseph. I know this is speculation, but this is what a good detective does. Does anyone have a Nathan Tucker who was born in England about 1800-1816? James
