    3. We may have been previously in touch, but when I saw this thought perhaps a good time and place to re-post my info and perhaps someone might match a line. My grt-grt gf George D. Tucker was from AL per the 1860 & '80 census reports ('70 says Miss). Another individual thinks perhaps Geo's siblings or at least some were born in TN. I've never been able to find who his family was. He married Mary A. West, b. abt 1835 TN, in 1854 near Marshall, Harrison County, Texas and they were still in Harrison Oct 1855 when the 1st child was born; I have their children and some of the descending lines. Supposedly Geo and his father, not known if the mother and also other siblings, moved into Harrison Co TX (east TX) and then I find him in Upshur Co 6 yr after his marriage up through the 1880 census; was in Kaufman with a son 1900 and then later that year died in the Confederate Home in Austin, TX. We have a birthdate of 1822 from Confederate record, however, the census reports would indicate he was born abt 1828 to 1831. Birthdate listed in 1900 census looks like 1825; in that one the parents are both listed from AL. There is a branch of Tuckers from AL & GA who are also in the Upshur Co. census reports but I've not been able to make a connection so far. I have info shared from another lady whose line went into Upshur and seems we could fit there somewhere though once again nothing is yet estabished. Her line is from a Thomas Tucker reportedly born in GA 1784 and died in Louisiana; descendants were also in NC, Miss, & AL, and then some on to east TX in Upshur. In the 1870 Geo & Mary resided next door to and 87 yr. Old Elizabeth West born in VA; she was living w/Louise Brant, 44, born in TX; Sarah, 21, at home, TX; Eda, 16, at home, TX; James, 14, at home, TX; Laura, 12, ditto, Lucy, 10, ?, 8; once again I've not been able to make the connection as I don't have enough ! to go on, but would think this is some of Mary's people. Thanks to anyone who might have a clue to this line and gladly share what I have as well, Sandra Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2005 12:00:31 -0500 From: "Charlotte" <ctucker@dbtech.net> To: TUCKER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TUCKER-L] thomas Tucker Hello Flo - your Thomas Tucker bca1740 Amelia Co Va d 1821 Jasper Co., Ga., is a brother to my husband's ancestor, George Tucker, Sr., b1745 Amelia Co., Va., and d1853 Marion County, AL. And they are sons of Thomas, Senior b1713 d1818 and his possible wife Margaret. Thomas, Sr., and Margaret had the following *other* children ... Daniel, Elizabeth, possibly Robert and Moses. There is a very active Tucker family research group associated with George Tucker, Sr., son of Thomas Tucker, Sr., and his lineage/descendants. My information regarding the individual children comes from their work... not mine. Of course, I have done extensive research on George Tucker, Sr., b1745 Va, and his descendants ... as do the others in this group. We meet in May of each year in Alabama for a reunion. The reunion is organized by the descendants of Daniel, a son of Thomas Tucker, Sr. Cousins come from as far West as Denver, CO, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana ; and in the East from Georgia, North from Tennessee and of course there is a strong group in Marion Co., AL. Alabama. Our Association is known as the George Tucker, Sr., Patriot, Descendant's Association. The 'resident' historian is Bill Tucker of Arkansas. Jeanette Herren of Alabama is president. Look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, you probably will hear from other researchers within this specific Tucker family as well. Charlotte Green Tucker ctucker@dbtech.net

    3. To: Jean Kitsembel: No I am not related to your Francis Marion Tucker. My Francis Marion Tucker was from Lincoln Co., Tennessee. During the Civil War the Union Army occupied Fayetteville Tennessee most of the conflict in order to protect the Railroad terminal there and in order to guard a stone Bridge across the Elk River. The combination of these two assets caused to Union Army to use Fayetteville as a supply depot and staging area for points further South. The Union Army was harassesed in the beginning by Confederate sympathizers until they forced all citizens of the county to give loyalty oath to the Union or be removed. After that they enrolled local citizens and used them as guards on the Railroad. In order to draw rations for these men they enrolled them in whatever Union unit which happened to be in Fayetteville at the time. Thus the name of Fayetteville Tennessee soldiers may appear on almost any Union Army roll. The Confederate records for my Francis Marion show that he served two weeks and deserted. Thus he is a likely candidate for one of these Union enrollees. I have identified 23 Union Francis Marions and 14 Confederate Francis Marions and am by the process of elimination trying to narrow my search. It is now known what my Francis Marion did during the Civil War but he and his family survived the war with a major portion of their assets in tact and he and his wife were buried by themselves about a mile from the family cemetery which was always caused conjecture that he might have be on the wrong side during the war. Thus I am interested in any Civil War information on any Francis Marion Tucker. --Wendell Tucker--
