My John M. was born 26 Aug 1809. He married Doras Nowlin. Had 9 children. He married Caroline Cabiness in 1865 and had one daughter named Dorcas. Have proof that his father was John Tucker who died 1847. proof is various documents relating to estate of John. John M had one son named John W. who died in 1860. John W. is buried with is parents at Zion Baptist in Cleveland County NC. Ray, it is possible that my John M. was not your John M. Betty
Dear Tuckers: My Caswell Tucker, born Jan. 7,1805, in NC has been a matter of research for years. I am told he was from Stokes co. by some and Burke Co. by others. Since your John Tucker was born 1809 could he per chance be a brother? Have you run across this name in your digging? He died in Bradley Co., Tn. and was married to Lucinda Staples born May 7, 1812 of Virginia. Alton Loveless rsmith2092 <rsmith2092@carolina.rr.com> wrote: Betty, we have corresponded before. Looking for any info on the Martin Tucker line, born appx 1808, in Kentucky. His father was either Lambert or Lampton Tucker, thought to be born in Virginia appx 1780. Do not know who Martin's mom was. Martin grew up and married Melinda Owens, they moved to Iowa about 1839, moved to California in 1852. Any onw out there recognize these names? Thanks. Betty and Ray, After seeing your information on your Tucker family, I looked through the files my husband had on Tuckers. His line is through George Tucker and his daughter Abigail and Ransom King. 1823 Wilson County, Tn Court Minutes Ransom Williams by Guardian Plt. Vs. Ransom King Deft. What is the connection between Ransom Williams and Ransom King? My husband, Bill, passed away a year ago and I'm just getting started on research again. Any help will be appreciated. Sue
Ray, Yes I "know" your John M. well as he was brother to my Sophia. I do remember now. I have not gotten any new info as much as I have looked.. I took a photo of the painting of John M. that hangs in the Shelby Co. Museum and have it online. Do you need a copy of it?... Also, I believe the mother of John M and his siblings to be the daughter of Nicholas Iler. I found his and his wife's grave over there in Cherryville. still no proof that John was first married to ?? Iler but Eleanor (his last wife) but why else would Nicholas Iler name John's children as heirs and him as executor. Oh one very important thing. Two descendants of John Tucker (through son Nicholas Iler Tucker) have sent in their DNA for testing.. This may give us a hint on where to look next. Betty

Carol, maybe the Western North Carolina Conference Archives can help you since your Rufus was a Methodist preacher. Try 1-800-562-7929. The archivist are: Nancy Anderson or Nancy Spaine. The Archives operates on Tuesday and Wednesday. I hope this will be fruitful for you. Ray in Gaston County, NC.
To all on the list, Today going through my deceased Aunt's things I discovered a note, which I had overlooked, years ago, written in 1960's. Rufus TUCKER m. Hibernia DOYLE ( her third husband) Their children were: Doyle, left home( Linden, TN?) in his 20's was never heard from again. Mattie, educated near Nashville, TN, m.? COLE, she taught Math at William and Mary. he was college teacher and was from the NW. They went to live in the NW. Willis, educated near Nashville, TN Rufus TUCKER was my ggrandfather's. Clinton Monroe W. TUCKER b. 1839 Warren Co TN, first cousin. 1839 Clinton was son of Clinton TUCKER b. 1789 Lincoln Co. NC. It seems I have been searching forever for parents or siblings of 1789 Clinton TUCKER. Now I may have at least a possibility of a brother with a son named Rufus TUCKER. Rufus TUCKER was Methodist Episcopal Preacher. These are most of the facts stated in my Aunt's note related to TUCKERS. Anybody have a Rufus TUCKER. Sorry have no concrete dates or better locations. I will try to come up with some. This is pretty much all going on in TN. Moral to this story is go back through your kinfolk's things, you may have overlooked something. Thanks to anyone wiht any info. Carol, http://community.webtv.net/carg/MYREALWORK Whatever befalls the earth Befalls the sons of the earth. ~Chief Seattle~

Can anyone tell me anything about an Alva A. Tucker who died on 9 Sept. 1922 at the age of 35? Alva is buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Lawrence Co., South Dakota. I'm trying to find out if Alva may be related to my Tucker family who lived in Lawrence County, SD in the 1920s also. Thanks ~ Gloria
I am seeking ancestral photos for a pictoral family tree. I have one of my grt-grt GF George D. Tucker b abt 1822 who came to Harrison Co TX abt 1835 and then lived a number of years in Upshur Co prior to 1900 death at the Confederate Home in Austin. Suddenly dawned on me there might be some other descendant out there with a photo of his wife Mary A. West Tucker (b. abt 1835 TN)?? Thank you, Sandra
Marci Family stories say that our Clinton TUCKERs are supposed to be Cherokee. Do you suppose there may be a connection? Don't you wonder what "Clinton" the name was for. Even my Grandmother's middle name was Clinton. Thank you for that information, Carol, http://community.webtv.net/carg/MYREALWORK Whatever befalls the earth Befalls the sons of the earth. ~Chief Seattle~
Alton Thank you for your time. Funny I had an uncle Alton in my TUCKER line. Carol, http://community.webtv.net/carg/MYREALWORK Whatever befalls the earth Befalls the sons of the earth. ~Chief Seattle~
Sue Thank you for your response. My question now is who was the Clinton that these people were named for? I have found a Sir Henry Clinton who was prominent in the Revolutionary War. Grasping at straws. A lot of TUCKERS served in that war, maybe someone served under Sir Clinton. There is also a Clinton,NC. Thanks again. Alton Loveless -- the Tucker Book you have on Bermuda.........is there any mention of a William Tucker b1747 Stonehaven Scotland...........who supposedly went to Bermuda before going on to Maryland? Dorothy
We have a George Tucker from NC who died in Carroll county TN in 1823. I have eight children listed for him. The two sons are Jarratt Tucker born about 1780 NC and Jeremiah Tucker born about 1782 NC. I don't have a Clinton Tucker as a son. His Daughter Abigail Tucker Rogers, who married Ransom King, has a son Clinton King born 1821. It seems there could be a connection but this is just clue. I will look through all I have and see if I can find a connection. My husband, Bill Kerr, had done this research and he passed away a year ago. Hope this helps. Sue
Hi list, I am looking for any information on John Tucker who was born in 1812/1813 in Ohio. The earliest record I have of him is from a marriage record in February of 1836 in Butler County. He married Hester (Hettie) Reed. The following children were born to this union. 1. Sarah Jane born in 1837 2. Preston Tucker born April 7, 1845 3. James born 1846 4. Rachel born 1849 5. John Wesley born 1842 The family is located as living in Oxford in both the 1840 and in the 1850 Federal Census. By 1860, Hester and the children are no where to be found in any census anywhere but John is still in Oxford living as a farm laborer. John continues to live in Oxford until at least 1870 since he once again appears in the census there. I have been able to find three of his children in the 1870 Federal Census. John Wesley and brother Preston are living in Boone County, Missouri. Sarah Jane had married Samuel Reed and they resided in Preble County, Ohio. Still no information on what happened to Hester or what ever became of James Tucker and Rachel Tucker. Any help with this information would be greatly appreciated. I believe John Tucker Sr., probably died in Oxford between 1870 and 1880, however, I have not been able to locate any death, probate or burial information on him from the county. I was hoping this information might help me determine his parentage. I noticed in the 1840 Federal Census that there was a Joseph Tucker age 30-40. Also in this household are two males under 5 years of age, one female under 5, one female 5-10 years of age and one female 20-30. In Reiley, Butler County, OH there is an Ephriam Tucker age 70-80 living with one female 15-20, 1 female 20-30 and 1 female age 60-70. I am wondering if these three Tuckers are perhaps father and sons or related to each other some how. In the 1830 Federal Census there appears to be 2 Ephriam Tuckers, one in Lemon township and the other one in Reiley township. The Ephriam in Reiley township has two males between the ages of 15 and 20, 1 male between the ages of 20 and 30 and one male between the ages of 60 and 70. My John Tucker could easily fall within the ages groups. I would be very interested in corresponding with anyone who has done research on Ephriam Tucker that could help me prove or disprove this theory. Thanks, Paula
