    1. [TUCKER] TUCKER Loyalists in NC
    2. Robin Linn
    3. Hello, For those of you who are searching for Tucker Loyalists here is a great resource. The Archives of the State of North Carolina has an on-line MARS catalog which can be searched. It covers most of their collections. One of their collections is entitled "Foreign Archives." I did a quick search on just the surname TUCKER and came up with 16 hits in the British records of Nova Scotia. There is a list of Loyalists Robert Tucker's claim (maybe Reuben?) A claim for Robert Tucker formerly a physician from Wilmington, NC (Same man?) A Richard Tucker, Master of the ship Pearl of Greenock A Nicholas Tucker and more.... Go to http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/default.htm Click on MARS catalog on the left of the page. That will launch their search engine Encompass. Page down until you see foreign Archives and put a check in the box. Page up to Quick Navigation and type Tucker in the space. Hit Search That will bring up a page with a box that says Foreign Archives. Click on that word and it will bring up the documents. Click on each document and it will give you a short abstract. Copies can be ordered from the Archives. Of course, you can put as many checks in as many "collection" boxes as you want and search their other holdings too but that slows it down a bit. 3. There is a Reuben Tucker listed with Thomas Tucker (b. 1750 MD) on the 1806 Tax List of Stokes Co., NC in the Belews Creek Dist. Reuben has no land listed and is not found before or after this on Stokes Co Tax Lists. Could he have been a brother to Thomas who went to GA with him in 1807? Here are some queries I found on Reuben tucker: The will of Daniel Jenifer Smoot was dated August 5, 1865, and proved in Madison Co., VA, August 24, 1865, by Andrew Carpenter and Benjamin H. Sparks. He bequeathed to his daughter Catherine M. Gibson the land near Good Hope Meeting House adjoining the land of Reuben Tucker and the Poor House, containing 210 acres, and also personal property. I am interested in any information about a Reuben Tucker listed in the Nash County tax roll for 1782. He may be my ancestor, first found in Sorel, Quebec, in 1799, almost certainly a Loyalist. I would also be interested in any other Tuckers from pre - 1800, or information on Nash County Loyalists and where they went after the peace of 1783. Family lore has it that Tucker ancestors came from North Carolina as Loyalists to Sorel, Quebec, after the Revolutionary War. The first Tucker born in Sorel was Mary Ann, born in 1799 to Reuben and Sarah Ann Tucker. I believe Reuben and Sarah Ann also had children, Ann and Lewis, born elsewhere. I have found a Reuben Tucker listed on the tax roll for Nash County, North Carolina, in 1782. I would appreciate any information about Reuben or generally about Loyalists in North carolina or Sorel, Quebec. My earliest Tucker ancestor is Reuben Tucker, found in Quebec in 1790s. 1. [TUCKER] Tuckers PA-TN-OH
    2. Buckshot
    3. Hello, I am trying to track my Tuckers from Bucks Co., PA, through Washington Co., TN to Miami Co., OH. This would be Abraham Tucker who married Mary Castner Tucker and their children: Nicolas Tucker, Jacob Tucker, Sarah Tucker, Mitchner Tucker, Jonathan Tucker, Mary Tucker, Abraham Tucker and Joseph Tucker. All but Nicolas are listed as born in Washington Co, Tn. or just Tn. This Abraham Tucker was the son of Abraham Tucker who married Elizabeth Mitchner Tucker. They lived in Bucks Co., PA. I have almost no other info on them and can't get back past them. THIS IS THE LOGJAM I AM TRYING TO BREAK, BUT I DON"T HAVE MUCH INFO TO WORK ON HERE, SO I HAVE INCLUDED LATER GENERATIONS. Going forward, the Abraham Tucker who was married to Mary Castner Tucker died shortly after reaching or while moving to Miami Co., OH. He is listed as Died 1909, probably in Miami Co., OH. No existing information as to where he is buried. His son Jonathan Tucker is my direct line and is my Great-great-great-grandfather. This all might be related to some kind of Quaker migration route. The family was looked after by Quakers in Miami Co., OH after Abraham died, Mary Castner Tucker remarried to a Samuel Brown who's previous wife's name was Ann. They were married 5 March 1814. Mary and her children were received by West Branch MM, Miami Co., OH 15 Nov. 1809. Abraham was deceased by this time. Any help, leads or suggestions on how to work this greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim Tucker buckshot@ohiolink.net

    3. I am searching for ANY connection between Tucker and Cooms. That includes any spelling of Cooms, Coomes, Coombs, Cwms, ect., and any year or country. There is a record of Mary Tucker marrying a James Cooms or Coombs in Dartmoor, Devon, England. That was in the early 1700s and too early to connect with my James Tucker Cooms. However, they could very likely be related so they are keepers. My earliest connection is my ggrandfather, James Tucker Cooms born abt. 1817 (Grayson Co., Va. census) in Baltimore, Md. of English parents. A cousin has said they were from Cornwall, England. His father was reported to be the captain of a ship (family legend) flying the Union Jack and was lost at sea. We do not know his name, name of the ship or date. A real stumper! Any help at all will be more than welcome. The family legend is this: James T. Coomes b abt. 1817, Baltimore, Md. of English parents. (Grayson Co., Va. census) His father was the captain of a ship that was flying the Union Jack. At some point it was reported that he and the ship were lost at sea. James T. went to sea in search of his father. Failing he returned to Baltimore where he found his mother and siblings gone. He migrated to SW Va., Carroll Co., where he met Elizabeth Dunford. They were married, and lived in Grayson Co., Va. Betsy Cooms died 1855 or 56 and James married again in 1857, my ggrandmother, Amanda Davis.

    3. Robin, my great-great-grandparents George D. and Mary A. West Tucker were in Upshur Co in the late 1800's as well. They (probably) married in Harrison Co TX 1854 and their first child Lemuel was born there. Geo and his father (unknown name) came to Harrison Co prior to that time but don't know if mother siblings came as well. The family was then in Upshur through 1880 census; 1900 Geo was living with son William and his family in Kaufman Co prior to dying in the Confederate Home in Austin later that year. The 1870 census says Geo was born in Mississippi though the '80 says AL. I've also tried to make a connection to this large group of Tuckers in Upshur Co but thus far have been unable not having Geo's parents nor siblings' names. Other children I have listed for Geo & Mary are my grt gm Carrie, Lena, Elizabeth, Eughenia "Jeannie", Philadelphia, George, Ann, James, Harriette "Hattie", and Robert "Rob". Perhaps at some point we'll have something more to compare and connect these families. Good Luck, Sandra tucker-request@rootsweb.com wrote: Today's Topics: 1.
