To Patience: I have no records for Cooms?Coomes, Cornwall or Dunford. A number of Davises married into the various Tucker families. I have an Amanda Davis that married a William Tucker but no information on her. I doubt that she is the same Amanda Davis that married James Tucker Cooms although the dates are within range. --Wendell Tucker--
I should have mentioned when James Tucker Cooms migrated south he lived in Grayson Co., Va. He married Amanda Davis in Ashe Co., NC., lived in Surry Co., NC. in 1860 then returned to Grayson Co. by 1870 census. Patience patience wrote: >Thank you for the information lately posted. Thank you for the information lately posted. I will keep it for possible future reference. I have a question, please. In your research have you come across the name Cooms/Coomes? Or Davis? I cannot find any trace of my ggrandfather's parents. His name is James Tucker Cooms/Coomes born abt. 1817, Baltimore. He migrated south by 1843 where he married Elizabeht Dunford. She died about 1855 and married Amanda Davis 1858. Both ladies, I believe, have NA heratage. I don't know where James was between 1817 and 1843. I don't know why his middle name is Tucker. Possibly his grandmother was a Tucker in Devonshire or Cornwall. He says his parents were English. Any clue would be something new. Thanks for looking.... I have been stuck on William henry all my life and I am 72 now. I have seen his being born in TN, and or GA. My mother had some notes and one of them showed some of his children being researched in GA, but, from what I have found they were born in AR. He just seemed to appear from nowhere in AR. I have his wife's family (Clinkscales) all the way back to Scotland. To completelly filll my 5 generation chart is my William Tucker and George Nelson. Both very common names. Thanks again...and good luck on your searches. Marci >From: "Lee, Mary" <mlee@madonna.edu> >Reply-To: tucker@rootsweb.com >To: <tucker@rootsweb.com> >Subject: Re: [TUCKER] William H. Marci, I looked at my records last night and don't see any of our Tuckers in Crawford County, all of ours are in Clark County. The Tuckers came from Prince George, Virginia, to Randolph County NC, to Franklin County Tenn, to Tishamingo County Mississippi, to Clark County. Some went on to Harrison County Tex.
