    1. RE: [TUCKER-L] Where is everyone
    2. Paul Tucker
    3. Flodette My ggg grandfather was named Daniel Peterson Tucker. He was born in 1810 either in SC or GA. His father was named William Tucker (one source lists him as William J. Tucker). I have long puzzled over the Jasper County, GA census records from 1810 through 1860. William Tucker appeared in the 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses of Jasper County, GA, but not in 1860. William Tucker appeared in the 1840 census of Newton County, GA, but I have not found him in the either the 1850 or 1860 census in Newton County. This is strange, since one would think that he would have been there by then. Rockdale County was not formed until October 18, 1870. William Tucker, father of Madison Tucker, according to his tombstone in the Presbyterian Camp Ground Cemetery in Smyrna, GA died on August 25, 1865, aged 82 years. It is not clear if the Williams of Jasper County listed in the censuses above are all the same William. In fact, based on the age ranges of the children and the 10-year difference between the censuses, it is very difficult to say that they are the same William. It appears that the Jasper County William may have had different spouses in 1820, 1830, and 1840 if, in fact that we are dealing with only one William. An article in The Heritage of Rockdale County, GA says "William, having lost two wives, moved with his children and apparently third wife Delania Lindsay to Newton County early in the 19th century." According to this story, Madison was born in 1826 in Jasper County, GA. His tombstone in the Presbyterian Camp Ground Cemetery confirms the date. There was no William Tucker in the 1820 Newton County census, but there was one in the 1830 Newton County census. However, based on the ages of the children in the home, it does not appear that this William Tucker was the same one that was in Jasper County in 1820, though it cannot be absolutely stated that he was not. The whole thing is a giant puzzle and I don't have enough of the pieces to fit it together. My main reason for interest in this (or these) Williams is this: A William Tucker bought land in Jasper County from William Watts in 1811. This land is approximately 3 miles northwest of Shady Dell, GA. Jeremiah Lumsden owned adjacent land. Samuel Thompson bought land from Jeremiah Lumsden in 1811. Jeremiah Lumsden was the father of Mary "Polly" Lumsden. Mary "Polly" married Samuel Thompson. One of their daughters was Wilmoth Lumsden Thompson, who married Daniel Peterson Tucker, my ggg grandfather. in 1826. Thus, we have William Tucker, his son Daniel Peterson Tucker, Daniel's Wife and her father and grandfather living less than a mile from each other at the same time. I have a lot of trouble thinking that the William there was not my ancestor. It is reported in family lore that William Tucker, father of Daniel Peterson Tucker, died in 1851 in Macon, GA. A fellow researcher pointed out to me that there is a small town named Machen about a mile from Shady Dell. I now believe that he may have died in Machen, not Macon. This seems pretty logical to me since the information about this was probably passed on verbally, and Machen and Macon could be easily confused. I have been to Macon and there is no record there that seems to support a William Tucker dying there in 1851. Today, there is a Tucker Town road and a Tucker-Perry road in the area where this old Tucker-Lumsden-Thompson land existed. I do not know the origin of the names of the current roads and it could be only coincidence. Jeremiah Lumsden is buried just off of today's HW 142 near the parallel railway just off of that highway. Somewhere around Machen or Shady Dell, I would expect to find a grave of my gggg grandfather, William Tucker, though it now may be totally lost. Another scenario is that the William Tucker that is the father of Madison was also the father of Daniel Peterson Tucker, perhaps by a spouse prior to Delania Lindsay. To throw in another bit of information, my ggg grandfather, Daniel Peterson Tucker was living in Newton County, GA at the time of the 1830 census (p. 15). "Next door" was his father-in-law Samuel Thompson, and John Pearson Thompson, the oldest brother of Wilmoth Lumsden Thompson, the wife of Daniel Peterson. There was also a William Tucker there at the time (p. 18). This William, age 40-49 had 3 boys and 1 girl under 10 years of age. His spouse was 30-39 years old. While I am tempted to say that this was my gggg grandfather, there is nothing to support this. And the mysteries go on. I would be greatly indebted to anyone that can provide any additional information about the William Tuckers of Jasper and Newton Counties, GA in the 1810-1865 time period. 3. Hi Flo, I tried to email you privately but it bounced back to me. I met you at the Tucker Reunion in Conyers, Georgia a few years ago. One of our cousins has joined the Sons of the American Revolution and sent me his line of descent. It shows the father of William as Thomas Tucker. I'm not sure where he got this info and I have not had time to check it out but it might be worth looking into. I did find an ancestral file on the LDS web site with the same info so maybe there is something to it. Let me know if you want to pursue this and I will send you what I have. I look forward to hearing from you. Your Cousin, Brenda Researching; Whitaker, Tucker, Taylor, Boone, McConnell, Finch, Herring, Hart, Elliott, Faulkner, Giddens among others.

I would like to prove that the son, Andrew (who is living in NC in 1854 when his father's estate is being settled in SC) is the same Andrew P. Tucker of Jefferson County, AL in 1860. Andrew P. Tucker and his wife Sarah/Sally Hart Tucker are on the South Carolina 1850 Federal census. In 1860 they are living in Trussville, Jefferson Co AL, and Andrew P. dies there in 1876. In my opinion, "my" Andrew is the son of this William. In addition, other Tucker researchers tell me that this William Tucker b? died 1854 in Greenville, SC, is the son of a John Tucker, died 1814? 3. Hi Leonard I don't remember very much its been 4 years since I quit looking for my Tucker's. I can't find the parents in VA before 1777 I found some who were born and died in and around, Kent England I found a Edward born in New Romney Kent, England in 1777, but can't find out if he came over here, the rest of the family died in England but there isn't a death date or place for Edward. So I thought maybe he moved to VA at some point. his father died 1825 in New Romney Kent, England. I am trying to prove for Colonial Dames 17th century, I can go thru Drury which I have for the DAR and my brother's SAR but thought I would see if I could thru the Tucker or Dalbey line on my mothers side. 3. Hi, I am at a brickwall and sure could use some help. My ggggrandmother was Phebe(Phoebe) Tucker.Phebe was born about 1811 in North Carolina, so it said on the 1850 census in Surrey Cty., NCPhebe Tucker and Hiram Collins posted bond on Jan. 8, 1828 in Surrey County, North Carolina.Their children were Obediah, Catharine, Almeda, David, Amanda, Lewis W., Dicy, Elizabeth, and Mary A. I have not been able to connect her to the other Tuckers in NC. But in the same book on bonds for Phebe and Hiram, I did see a David Tucker and Caty Day posting bond on Mar 18, 1806 in NC. I wondered if there is a connection. If anyone has any information on Phebe (or Phoebe) please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any and all help.Thank you,Carolcarolithomas@excite.comHave a blessed day! _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!

    3. Hi Joan, I don't know if he was in NC or not, but anything is possible I guess, I barley found him in VA. and I have no proof of that, I'm going by what I have been told. I still think he was born in England and him or the whole family moved to NC or VA but can't find anything to prove it. I've been slacking off on this line long enough and have been working on my Drury line. I am trying to prove for Colonial Dames 17th century, I can go thru Drury which I have for the DAR and my brother's SAR but thought I would see if I could thru the Tucker or Dalbey line on my mothers side. Pauline Drury Joan Flatt wrote:<><> Pauline, Glad to see that you are back!! I think I sent you the tax list info a long time ago. I am interested in the Christian Co. KY connection. Your James B. Tucker was born there in 1815. I also have a James B. Tucker who was born in KY (MAYBE Jefferson Co.) circa 1816. And, there was an Aaron Tucker who was in Christian Co. KY in 1820. We have debated with ourselves if this is our Aaron or if our Aaron is the one that was in Franklin Co. AL in 1820 and still there in 1822 and 1823. We settled on the AL Aaron because he had a daughter, Matilda, who was born in AL circa 1822/23. Some of the ages in the KY Aaron's household don't fit either. But, I am curious about the Aaron in Christian Co. KY and curious about your James B., since I also have one who is about the same age. I know that they are NOT the same James B. Tucker, but the similarities of region and associated given names is very interesting indeed. Further, there was an Edward Tucker who appeared in Rowan Co. NC on the same census records as our Aaron. I don't remember if it was the 1800, or the 1810 census. I will have to check. Was your Edward ever in NC prior to/after VA? A lot of VA Tuckers were in NC.
