I had been under the impression that TUCKER was an English name. However Reason P. Tucker apparently though of himself as Scots. Does anyone have anything specific on the geographic origins of the Tucker name. Perhaps this has been discussed recently and I missed it. If so I apologize for covering old ground. More on the physical characteristics of Tuckers. Reason P. was a large man and his son Charlie was a big man (300 lb., and could bend horseshoes in his bare hands it was reported), and had red hair. > >
Hi. My name was Pat Tucker before I married. My dad and his mother were both tall, as was my brother. My father was 6'2", wavy black hair and thin with normal sized ears. My grandmother, his mother, also had black hair and she was also 6'2". My grandfather, his dad, was short, 5'5", thin and I don't know what color his hair was before it turned gray. My grandfater, Frank Marion Tucker, was the son of John and Nancy (Tallman) Tucker and Frank Tucker was born in 1884 in Northern MO and John and Nancy took him and his baby sister to Shasta, California in 1888. Frank came back to MO (central MO) in 1912 and married my grandmother Alpha Urie Madden and Frank stayed in Jefferson City, MO until his death in 1955. Who knows, maybe you and I are cousins or something.....have not found anything on John Tucker's life before he married Nancy Tallman in Northern MO. Love to hear from ya! Pat Rosen (Lenexa, KS-I lived in Jefferson City most of my life until June of 2001). Thanks for reading this!
I can't speak for other branches of the Tucker clan, but my branch was almost totally bald as far back as photographic history. I personally was almost completely bald by the time I graduated from college at age 23. (I had the feeling that it was the reason I had a hard time attracting girls, but that was probably not the case!) All of my uncles as well as grandfather and great uncles were almost totally bald (just a fringe around the ears and on the back of the neck). It is family oral history that baldness was a characteristic of the Tucker clan as far back as memory was passed down. A couple of my brothers have retained their hair as well as one of my three sons, so maybe the gene is getting diluted. As far as ears are concerned they are not unique in any way, other than they are not obstructed from view. --Wendell--
We even have a Spring Hill cemetery!!!! Fran
Pat......I have a Daniel Tucker b. 1797, but I do not have his date he died. He was the son of David Tucker in my line b. 1754. Fran

Good evening, My father had red hair and hazel eyes and died when he was 43 from alcoholism. What I would really like to have is information about my gr-gr-grandfather, William Tucker, who is found in the Abstracts of Duplin and Sampson Counties in NC. selling & buying property with his son, Hiram Tucker, being a witness to some of the transactions. This was 1770-1800. His 2nd wife was Jemima Lewis but we are unable to find the first wife who was the mother [we believe] of Hiram and his brother, Ira]. Hiram and Ira Tucker, with their families, moved to Pike Co. AL ca 1821. If anyone has any information about this William Tucker of NC I sure would appreciate it being shared with me. William is my proverbial "brick wall". Thank you. Wynnette Tucker Welch
My Tucker line has big ears, mostly brown eyes, very drk brown (but majority has black) hair, tall, high prominate cheek bones, long skinny fingers, stubborn has can be, very strong work ethic, and doesn't go gray until mid 70's (but only a few streaks of gray). I was reading the enlistment papers on my ggg-grandfather and he was described as being 5' 6 1/2" tall Sandy complexion, Grey eyes, and brown hair. Few of us do have weird green eyes Nicki
I am looking for info on J.R. Tucker who married someon with last name of Butts, Betts, or Bitts (having truoble making out the info for marriage liscense) They had a son named Green B. Tucker born September of 1827. One peice of documentation lists his birth place has Spring Hill Co., TN and another lists Murry Co., TN. Both of which he gave the info for one was in 1861 for enlistment the other 1906 for second marriage. Can anyone help? Thanks Nicki [email protected]
For Nikki: The site http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/47000.html gives U. S. Census Bureau data for Tennessee. If you mouse on "Select a County" there, you get a window listing Tennessee's present counties. On that list, you cannot find either Spring Hill Co. or Murry Co., TN, but there is a Maury County. http://www.springhilltn.org/ is the site of the town of Spring Hill, Tennessee, and says "Spring Hill is located 30 miles South of Nashville, Tennessee and situated in Maury and Williamson Counties." So, my guess is that the listing of Spring Hill as a county is just an error. http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo is a geographic name server. Looking for "Spring Hill" you get dozens of hits, including FIVE in Tennessee alone -- in the counties of Haywood, Henderson, Houston, Maury and Williamson. There doesn't seem to be a Spring Hill county anywhere in the USA now. Of course, sometime in history, a county might disappear through being renamed, or absorbed into some other county, or split between new counties with different names. Best wishes in your research. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nicole Barrows" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2002 3:35 PM Subject: [TUCKER-L] J.R. Hi all Just how tall are your Tuckers me being a 5.7 1/2 the smallest and the youngest in my family. the rest all over 6ft . Glyn.
Okay since I was one of the first to reply to the original message about the "big ears" I can see that we have strayed far from the original query, thanks to my asking about the baldness. I believe that the introduction of the other parents' traits have probably gotten us to the many different hair and eye colors, along with the variations of height. Among my grandfather's siblings ( born between 1880 -1900) there were different hair colors and heights, but then their father ( a Tucker) appears to have been of fair hair and tall, while their mother was of French Canadian descent and had darker hair and was short in stature. So I guess the only way one would ever know the original traits would be to find a picture of the original ancestor the line descends from. I'll now return to the libraries and look for something more concrete. It has been amusing to read everyone contributions. Diane Darville

Is anyone compiling all of this and determining common characteristics? Maybe I am wasting my time in courthouses and libraries. I should be looking for people who are either tall or short, have big ears or normal ears, with blue eyes or some other color, and with either black or blond hair. Is this close? Paul
We have one little one in each generation, but the majority of the men average 6'2" and the women about 5'10". I'm only 5'1", so I get used as the family "leaning pole"! We always say we tend to beat the mule and the brick wall in being stubborn! We also have the strong work ethic in my line. Carrie Tucker wrote: > >I married into Mass/RI Tuckers (Morris' line).
