Hey all, Clinton TUCKER, b. 1789 Lincoln Co NC was a Methodist Episcopal Preacher. Started out as a circuit rider in NC. Later settled in Warren Co TN with his family and continued to preach and farm according to the 1850 census. One of his sons Clinton Monroe W. TUCKER my ggrandfather was said to have made his living fishing hunting and trapping. He also served in the Civil War. It is also said he was at least half Indian. Probably Cherokee but I have been unable to find proof of this. Even though my Mother married an blond, blue eyed Irishman, Black, Black hair and eyes are still dominate. Am still searching for the 1789 Clinton's parents. Thanks for your alls time. What a great family story! I'm proud for you that you have so much info but envious at the same time. We should all be so lucky. Brenda Felder ------ Original Message ----- From: Nicole Barrows Sent: Sat, Jan 19, 2002 3:07pm To: <[email protected]> Subject: [TUCKER-L] Introduction Ok, maybe I should let you guys know a little about me. Everyone's been so helpful & I Thank You all. My name is Nicole Rae Barrows (maiden name deChant). I was born 9-30-1973 in West Germany (my Dad was in the Army). I am 28, have 3 kids (2boys, 1 girl). Have been married since 1992. I live in Payne County, Oklahoma. (We moved here to be with my husband's family). I am trying to find my Native American lines, 1. to be able to tell my kids and hopefully someday theirs, who their families were and where they came from. 2. To help my Grandfather say he isn't "insane" for saying he is Native American. His family was not allowed to talk about it outside their homes and if they did, his grandmother would whip them. His family are "Naturals" at hunting, trapping, gardening, dealing with furs, music, painting, drawing, fishing, and swimming.(If that means anything). As he would tell me, "It's in your blood & you can't ignore it". I remember growing up, he would give us all "nicknames", me I had 3 Morning Fresh, Bright Eyes, & Morning Star, he told me it was because I was allows my best early in the morning and so eager to take on the day. I also know that every time a child reaches the age of about 4, he sits them down and teaches them the dangers of the outdoors, he still has the various sizes of rattles from rattle snakes and would shake them to show what they sound like. He also after every meal does a kind of chant while beating his hand on a table (for the sound of a drum). He is very protective of children and if there is no children around him he gets sad. We have to make certain foods for our kids or else he says he will disown us, like snow icecream, deer, rabbit, & always lots of vegetables & fruits. If he is not outdoors working, he throws a fit (he is soon to be 77 and very little gray hair). A couple of other things I have learned about his family is they live to be around 100 or more, and when it is their time they go to bed and say they need their "long rest" and never wake up. Grandfather's line consist of Tucker-Lynn-Ross-Holsapple-Goodpaster(Goodpasture)-Cannon-Butts-Hornbeck-Ric hardson-Wilkerson-Dalton-Canaday(various spelling of)-&Mitchell-Steele So far I have been able to find the following: 1. Barrows Some strange notes I found about Green Berry Tucker, he enlisted in Company L, 6th Reg't IL Calv...but he supplied his own horse & supplies for his horse saying "He doesn't trust the 'Whiteman's' belongings" Then upon his death, he had his horse burried next to him (his wife Eliza on his otherside). He contracted Measles during the Civil War which caused a Liver disease, & he caught another disease from camp that affected his eyes. I have family members that remember stories they said of Green Berry living or growing up in an "Indian Village" away from "Everyone Else" . He was said to be a Farmer & Carpenter 5' 6 1/2" Sandy Complexion, Grey Eyes, & Drk Brown Hair. Any way, that's part of my History. Sorry it took so long, but was trying not to leave anything important out. William son of Wlliam Lynn & Mary. 5. Albert Eugene Tucker b. 7-4-1925 Englewood, CO m. in Reno, Nevada Elga Imogene Hardy 6. Rebecca Leanne Tucker m. James Allen deChant (Meyers is his real last name) 7. Nicole Rae deChant (Me) m.in VA Christopher B. Nicki

Wish I could help you out but I am stuck at my gggrandfather Joseph Tucker, birth place uncertain, though census seems to support NH and the year 1812 as his year of birth. Have no information on him before he married my gggrandmother and have only been able to trace him for about a forty year period. I do not even know his date or place of death, but am assuming it is in VT as his wife died there. I wish I could help you with Phillip but have nothing to offer. Diane Darville
Hello, one question: In addition to physical traits and personalities, has anyone noticed trends in occupations or hobbies? In my Tucker line I have many in various types of engineering, medical and dental professions, and many interested in photography and music. Jan Tucker Mulligan
Vermont Tuckers in my line were farmers. I think that started to die out in the 1940's. The younger generations have many different occupations. Diane Darville

Anne, You and I need to get together and compare notes. My Tucker line goes through Calvert County in the early 1800's. A Thomas is listed in the early census groupings with my Benjamin. Interested in comparing? Anne Gibbs wrote: >Where are your Tucker's from. The picture of Albert reminds me of my grandfather.
