One of the lurkers here. I am still looking for information about another William Tucker, this one from Adair County, Kentucky. Those of you who have been around this list for a while see this posting about once a year. The exact birthplace of my William Tucker is unknown, but is thought to be somewhere in North Carolina in the 1760s. There is speculation that he might have been born or grew up in Rowan County, NC or nearby counties, but I have not been able to prove it conclusively. My trail of hard evidence begins when William Tucker shows up in Adair County, KY in 1802, where he is listed as a member of the Kentucky Cornstalk militia. He again enlisted in the military for the war of 1812, this time in Allen's Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers. Both military records show him as a resident of Adair County, KY. Most of Allen's Regiment, of which William Tucker was a member, were either killed or taken captive in the Battle for the River Raisin (near present day Detroit, MI) in January, 1813. William Tucker is believed to have been killed during that battle as he never returned home to his family in Kentucky and military records of the battle list him as "absent by permission", denoting either capture or death. In addition, my William Tucker shows up in an 1805 tax roll and the 1810 Adair County census as living on 140 acres near Wolf Creek (purchased from a man named Dunbar). He had six children -- five boys and a girl. My gg-grandfather, born 1804, is the only one whose name I know. William Tucker's wife is thought to have been Martha, perhaps Martha Ballinger or Martha Bellinger. Indeed, my gg-grandfather's middle name was Bellinger. There was another William Tucker, a veteran of the revolutionary war, who moved to Adair County, KY between 1812 and 1818. This William Tucker has sometimes been confused with my William Tucker, as they both lived in Adair county (10 years apart) but they are not the same person. Like others on this mailing list, I am hoping that there is someone out there who might be descended from my gg-grandfather's other five siblings and can provide more information about my William Tucker and his ancestry. Still here------------and waiting for that breakthrough on William Tucker who had no parents, no birthdate, nodeathdate, no wedding no wife but did have 13 kids. Surely someone besides me is interested. He was in Ga. and Ala. probably born ca. 1780. Looking all the time! Yes I am on here and check in often, I am still looking for birth of Moses TUCKER in DeepRiver, Ct. in 1779. d. 2 Aug.1838 Huntsburg, OH. Married Rheumah TRYON. These were my gggrandparents. Moses was the son of Jobe TUCKER b. 1 Jul 1710, Norton, MA.and Hannah BARRAH (Barrows) b. 21 Apr. 1764, Plymouth, Plymouth, Ma. They married 24 May, 1764. Moses was evidently the 11th child of this Union. But I have yet to find evidence of his birth. [email protected]
I am still looking for any descendants of William TUCKER & Elizabeth WEBBER who married in Swimbridge, Devon, on May 7 1842. They had at least 10 children so there must be someone out there descended from them. It is sort of like playing 'hide and seek' where you are in and you have found all you can find but the last couple of people don't want to come out or have fallen asleep because you have taken so long to find them. So I give up... come out come out wherever you are :) . I had put descendants in a previous plea but here goes again: The dates I have for the births may be baptism dates I am yet to get all the certificates... WILLIAM2 TUCKER (JAMES1) was born 1 Jul 1809 in Chittlehampton, Devon, England, and died Bef. 1881. He married ELIZABETH WEBBER 7 May 1842 in Swimbridge, Devon, England, daughter of GEORGE WEBBER and GRACE THOMAS. She was born 12 Nov 1815 in Swimbridge, Devon, England, and died Aft. 1881. Ann Does the "My New Tucker site" that you mentioned 400 pages reduced to 157 have any of the Tucker Line of the names of Granville Tucker, Mary Ann (Morris) Tucker, children Eller, Eugene, J.C., Luber or Luker, and Francis Marion who was my GF. Granville and Mary Ann were married 9/9/1855 Sumner Co., TN. It was recently thought they were the Granville and M.A. Tucker buried in Macon Co., TN. That M.A. Tucker was not the former Mary Ann Morris from Sumner Co., daughter of John (Jackie) Morris. If any of this ties to what you have, I would like to get it if possible. I have Microsoft Word. Thanks, waiting to hear from you. [email protected]
Sweets Today as I was viewing my great great grandmothers bible. I found this post card within it. It is addressed to Marion & LolaBelle Tucker 613 S. Copper Albuquerque, N.M. no zip code The above address is marked out and hand written is the following address: 121 1/2 no 1 32 The post card was mailed I believe in 1939 as its a New Years Greeting and Best Wishes for 1939. All of my Tucker ancestors are deseased if you know about Marion and LolaBelle Tucker. Please get back with me. I do believe this is a clue as to my Tucker line. The Tuckers always talked of an aunt and uncle, I also have photos of Tuckers that I do not know who they are. But until I can place my Tuckers within a family, I cannot even begin to try to find out who these people are. The bible belonged to Sarah Francis Biggs Smith and she married William Baxter Smith. Their daughter Martha Beatrice Smith married John Thomas Tucker. I believe the bible was used by my great grandmother Martha Beatrice Smith Tucker before it was tucked away for safe keeping. She also recorded the information that Sarah Smith had recorded in her bible in 1915. I have that information also with additional information that is not in the bible. But I'm sure there was documents at that time to show what she had put down. Hoping someone can help.... Pattie
No correlation at all, but your asking made me collect my papers from the waste bin. Out of all those Tuckers only 23 were of commissioned rank, and most of those were Second Lieutenants. Two such were Second Lieutenants in the Norfolks, one killed in 1915 and one in 1918. They do not seem to be related. Only 2 reached Major: One was the St George Tucker whose details I posted previously, and the details of the other follow. They must be related. FREDERICK ST. GEORGE. TUCKER Major 10th Bn., Worcestershire Regiment who died on Monday 3rd July 1916. Age 33.Citation: Additional Information: Son of the late Lt. Frederick St. George Tucker (R.A.); husband of Eileen James (formerly Tucker), of "Aldwick," Elmsleigh Rd., Weston-super-Mare. Commemorative Information - Cemetery: OVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, Somme, France Grave Reference/Panel Number: VI. G. 4. Westn-super-Mare is in Somerset, which is traditional Tucker territory. Interestingly officers do not show the link their men had with their counties of origin. The CWGC site lists 248 Tuckers as having been killed in the 2nd World War. Tim ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2002 1:56 PM Subject: re: Tucker distribution Tim, that was an interesting report you gave us. Did you happen to find any correlation between service rank and Tuckers of a certain area? The earliest Tucker I have for sure in my family was born in 1759 here in Virginia. (It has been passed down that he came from the family of Capt. Robert Tucker, but we have no way of proving it or of knowing if it is even remotely true. ) From this one man and his wife has come a profusion of descendents as you would have never believed. From Virginia to Kentucky, then on to many other states in the US. I sincerely urge all who plan on settling a new, unhabited continent to leave lots and lots of paperwork behind for the use of their future relatives! Thanks for sharing your efforts with us. I, too, thought it surprising that there were few Welsh Tuckers, as I had been given the impression is was a common name there. I haven't a clue what area my own people came from. Thanks, and have a good weekend.
Thanks Tim, that's interesting History......... Fran
One of the sites which we in Britain have to use too often when researching our ancestors is the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site. (www.cwgc.org.uk) After tracing down a cousin who was killed in the Second World War, I realised that the CWGC site's search engine could tell us where the Tuckers came from. In Britain it was usual to enlist in your county regiment, and in the First World War there was comparatively little cross-posting. So I stuck "Tucker" into the Search Engine, and found that the British Commonwealth Tuckers who died in that war added up like this: 1914 - 23 were killed 1915 - 70 1916 - 103 1917 - 140 1918 - 124 1919 - 18 Total - 478 Tuckers were killed in the First World War from the British Commonwealth. The next step was to check their regiments. As expected the Devons and the Somerset Light Infantry figured prominently, and the Tuckers who died while serving in other other regiments followed roughly what I knew of emigration from the West of England during the 19th century. The west of England went into a decline in the late 18th and the 19th centuries when the textile trade went north, and agriculture suffered. Therefore many people in these parts left, and many of their descendants figured in the casualty lists from other parts of Britain and overseas. The totals panned out like this: West Country - London area - North of England - Wales - Australia - Canada - New Zealand 62 53 60 15 41 34 9 Also there were only 2 or 3 from South Africa, but a surprise was the presence of 3 or 4 West Indian Tuckers. It was also quite a surprise to see how few Welsh Tuckers there seemed to be. Of course, the proportion of Tuckers who emigrated to the United States is impossible to find out. But remembering previous postings to this site, I found the following: TUDOR HENRY ST. GEORGE TUCKER Major attd., 21st Punjabis who died on Sunday 19th August 1917.Citation: Additional Information: (Buried Dera Ismail Khan Cem. 51.) Commemorative Information - Cemetery: DELHI MEMORIAL (INDIA GATE), India Grave Reference/Panel Number: Face 2 Location: The Delhi Memorial (India Gate) stands at the eastern end of the Rajpath, or Kingsway. - Historical Information: Of the 13,300 Commonwealth servicemen commemorated by name on the memorial, just over 1,000 lie in cemeteries to the west of the River Indus, where maintenance was not possible. The remainder died in fighting on or beyond the North West Frontier and during the Third Afghan War, and have no known grave. The Delhi Memorial also acts as a national memorial to all the 70,000 soldiers of undivided India who served and died in every main theatre of operations except Italy during the First World War, the majority of whom are commemorated by name outside the confines of India. The memorial was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Tim Tucker

I am looking for anyone descended from Edward (b: 16 Oct 1852) or James (b: 10 Apr 1843) or Frank (b: 17 Mar 1859) TUCKER both born in Swimbridge England; I am not 100% certain on the birth dates. Parents were William and Elizabeth (nee Webber), my great grandparents. My cousin used to correspond with a lady by the name of Maude E Tucker who lived in California, I believe she was Edwards daughter, but I believe she died about 15 years ago and as she had never married we have lost contact. I believe I have a number of long lost cousins in the US and would love to hear from them.
