    3. Hello Claudia, My great-grandfather Henry Tucker was born at Swimbridge, Devon, in 1855. I have details of several generations before him (his father was William Tucker, b.1809; his grandfather was James Tucker, 1762-1814), but I haven't found an Edward Sherrod Tucker. There could well be a connection, however. While none of the above applies to William C., and thought they might fit into someone's line. Isobel

    1. [TUCKER-L] WILLIAM CARROLL TUCKER
    2. Joan Flatt
    3. Hi, Our William Carroll Tucker was BORN in Illinois in 1840. And, some of our family lived in Franklin County, IL. Specifically, William Carroll's sister, Malinda who married Calvin KITCHELL--She also lived in Effingham County for a while, but the rest of the family were mostly in Pulaski and Massac Counties. Our ancestor Aaron Tucker settled in the region of Johnson County, IL that later became Pulaski County. There seems also to have been a connection to Alexander County briefly. So, our clan was ALL mostly in extreme southern IL. Aaron was also in Jefferson County, IL in 1830. So, it could be that your William Carroll Tucker and our William Carroll Tucker were related... The CARROLL name is said by some researchers to have originated through a maternal surname. Our William Carroll's mother, however, was Elizabeth SMITH. Some researchers of our line have called her Elizabeth CARROLL Smith, but I have never found any proof that this was her name. Some say it could have been Elizabeth Caroline Smith, but again no proof. And, it is thought that her mother was a CAWTHORN so, the CARROLL surname would have had to have come through the TUCKERS. At least that is my theory. And, since I don't know anything about the Tucker grandmothers of previous generations, it could be that one of them was indeed a CARROLL. 3. Just joined the list and have noticed most of the TUCKER entries seem to be from America and it might sound bumb but as my TUCKER's seem to originated from Worcestershire in England I wanted to ask is the name from UK or USA ? my research [ such as it is]starts with a marriage 26/10/1766 at St Mary's Church, Oldswinford,Worcs, England between Samuel TUCKER spade molder ofa & otp Elizabeth SHELDON also ofa & of that parish they went on to have several children christened in Oldswinford but non give an indication whether or nor born there too, there is also in later years TUCKER's christened, amrried & buried in the following places all Worcs & Staffs Oldswinford, Netherton, Dudlely, Princes End. Bumblehole, Brierly Hill,Cradley,Whittington, Coseley,Stourbridge,Kingswinford, Rowley Regis & Tipton Although I've managed to find TUCKER's in all these area's never been able to find the birth place of Samuel Tucker approx 1740-1755 or his parents or his place of death. So it's possible he does not originate from Worcestershire at all and just moved there for the work, suggestions as to a possible birth place for him and any details of TUCKER's pre 1780 would be most welcome as I'm at a loss as to where to begin looking I did hope t ofind a settlement document for him or other family members in Oldswinford but have not found one there . Many thanks in advance for reading my e-mail and for any help or information you may be able to give me Denise Sargeant [nee TUCKER]

Anyone familiar with them? What are the dates for this Wm? The one I mentioned in Bledsoe had to be born well before 1788 or so. Also the Wm Rippeto he sold the slave to was living NEXT door to Caswell Tucker in the 1830 Bledsoe Co TN census where another Wm Tucker b. abt 1800 -1810 was listed in Dist. 3, 9 doors away from Caswell also on pg.275. Elijah Tucker, b. 1796 in Stokes Co NC was listed a few doors away on pg. 276. I am convinced these 3 were brothers. Since I live in this same community I know that this was on the Cumberland Mt. near the present day Cumberland Co TN line. The Tuckers of White Co were also on the Cumberland Mt. near the White Co line. As the crow flies this abt 10 miles. Too close for there not to be a connection between all these Tuckers. There was a Clinton Tucker b. abt 1789 NC who is listed in the 1850 Census, Warren Co., TN. He was in the 1830 Census, Lincoln Co., NC. I have tried to find out without success just WHERE in Warren Co he lived. If it was in the northern part then he was ALSO on the Cumberland Mt.!! Could Wm C. Tucker mentioned in 1813 be Wm Clinton Tucker?? Clinton had a son Clinton Monroe b. 1839 Warren Co. TN, d 1906 Franklin Co TN. m. 1867 Perry Co TN Mary Ann V. DOYLE (note there is DOYLE community on the Mt. here). I have several Clinton Tuckers in my line here and my grandfather was named James MONROE Tucker. Thinking out loud and still digging! Mary, in Cumberland Co TN

    3. Hello. I am a Tucker, too. My family originated in Devon, England about Swimbridge. Our ancestor is Edward Sherrod Tucker, father is supposed to be a John. I haven't been able to verify this. One cousin thinks the name was William. I'm wondering how we can find a list of the family. I know Edward had syblings but don't know their names. Who are you looking for? Possibly to be able to look for you here. 1. [TUCKER-L] William C. Tucker
    2. Joan Flatt
    3. Mary, There was also a William C. Tucker in Dickson County, TN. He had some land dealings with a Lewis Tucker, whom I believe was his brother. And, this Lewis apparently had an estate in TN that was divided amongst some relatives in IL. It seems he didn't have children. Do you suppose that the William C. in this case could be the same as the one from White County? There was a Carroll Tucker who married Jane Frazier. Maybe William C. and Carroll are the same person? I know that we have a William Carroll in our line of Tuckers and I do know that the Tuckers sure did like to repeat names!!!!
