KILLEEN, Texas - Funeral services for John Thomas DeFevers, 81,[photo] of Harker Heights, Texas, will be Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial with full military honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville, Texas. Mr. DeFevers passed away on Sept. 1, 2011, in Harker Heights. Mr. Defevers was born to John Jackson DeFevers and Myrtle Shaw DeFevers on Sept. 2, 1929, in Glasgow. He was reared and educated in Kentucky. He served for 21 years, retiring in 1971 as a First Sergeant. He served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He earned the following ribbons and medals: Korean Service medal; National Defense Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf cluster; Bronze Star; and Vietnam Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Effie Lavelle DeFevers. Survivors include a son, John DeFevers Jr. and wife, Carmen, of Moore, OK; daughters, Alice Anderson of Nolanville, Vivian Leahy and husband Dennis, of Kansas City, MO, and Brenda Michelle DeFevers of Harker Heights; two brothers, Mike DeFevers of Glasgow and John Robert DeFevers of Brenterton, WA; and a sister, Yvonne Miskol and husband, Mitch, of Carmel, IN; two granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
