    3. Can someone give this individual some help? I would be interested in learning about this also. Encampment seems to have gotten it's name from the old trappers and mountain men holding their "encampments" in/near there. There's a, what looks like, a nice museum there that might be able to help him with information about Encampment. I can't find any reference to a fort at Encampment. I can find several references to Soldiers Creek but I can't find anything about it's exact location or a fort there. Near as I can figure it's somewhere in the North-East part of the state and there were a lot of skirmishes in that part of the state. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Fort at Encampment Wyoming Date: Sat, 10 Sep 2011 12:54:50 -0400 (EDT) From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Hi I have a ranch around Encampment and have always wondered how I could access the fort logs for the fort established at Encampment Wyoming. I also understand there was a battle/skirmish up on soldier creek and am trying to find information on that as well. Can you help? Best regards, Dennis Faerber

    3. Hi. sorry the print is so large....I have an old  book of forts of the west,..verified what I suspected...encampment usually a description for the military settling in for a while, sometimes a small community of pioneers there and it and over time became a town. There are hundreds of "soldier creeks" also.  I do see Sheridan County and Carbon County both WY. both with encampments. the following is one source I believe is quite accurate: me turned into towns…   Carbon County   and  Sheridan county probably many more. I see the WY.  At * Grand Encampment -- Wyoming Tales and Trails Grand Encampment. From WyomingTales and Trails. This page: Encampment, The Boston-WyomingSmelter. www.wyomingtalesandtrails.com/ghost3.html- Cached    CHECK OUT THE COPYRIGHT DETAILS… they will give you permission if it is a non profit organization.( I asked for permission 2 years ago and they granted it. don't know if I can find that paper or not:)  This museum is excellent...I am a member...let me know what happens.Jo Ann Scott sheridan wyoming county museum    Sheridan County Museum : Home Page www.sheridancountyhistory.org/- CachedSheridan County Historical Society P.O. 3. According to epodunk.com, Encampment got it's name because Indians camped in the area near a warm spring. I went to www.northamericanforts.com and could only find Fort Fred Steele in the area, but it doesn't appear to be that close to Encampment. Someone with more familiarity of the area may find something closer.
