I have found quite a few surnames as first or middle names in subsequent generations. In fact, one of my mother's brothers has two last names for his first and middle name: Howard Osborne Cole -- his mother's grandmother was Agnes Emily Howard. My grandmother was Dorothy Agnes Osborne and my uncle only got surnames for his name!!! However, I always look at it as a clue...you just got to figure out where the piece fits in....
