I use Google Alerts a lot to send me stuff on most of my counties. You have to sort through a lot of stuff that has no relevance to what you want to post on the site but every once in a while you get a golden nugget. Yesterday I got something that piqued my interest. It dealt with National Bank Notes printed by The First National Bank in one of my counties. I guess I "kind" of always knew that some banks printed their own money in the USofA at one time, but had never really thought much about it. Now, I'm curious as a cat. If something piques my interest I have to learn more about it. It's kind of a curse in some ways. My poor old head is stuffed with tons of absolutely useless trivia. I know just a little bit about lots of stuff. If your interested in such things Wikipedia has a page about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Bank_Note There are sites that will list the banks in whatever state that were chartered to print the notes. One I found for Wyoming is: http://www.nationalcurrencyvalues.com/National-Currency/Wyoming.aspx I don't know if this subject is something that I will include in a site, but, maybe if it could be tied to people.............. For instance on the Coles County, Illinois, site I have a history booklet done by the local bank for the centennial of Mattoon. It was published by the Mattoon National Bank in 1955. It gives a history of the bank at the end of the booklet. In the early days one of the banks that merged to form todays bank was one that printed the bank notes. That ties the printing to the people that formed the bank. Otherwise, it's kind of interesting from a strictly historical point of view. -- A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for any amount, up to and including their life. _ _... ..._ _ _._ ._ ..... ._.. ... .._

Thank you to everybody for the warm welcome! It is most appreciated. I really look forward to working with all of you. Some of you I know already from other projects and I can't wait to get to know the rest of you. I know from experience that teaching html online isn't the easiest thing to do. I've used messenger to teach a couple of people. Sometimes you have to say the same thing 40 different ways before you get your message across. I have a lot to do over the next little bit and I had better get started. I would like to get a card file cabinet scanned and online. A lot of those are in OK, KS & NE. There could be other states also, I haven't dug into it very far. They are abbreviated deed extractes as far as I've been able to figure out. OMG! I love my building, they were buried under a whole pile of stuff in the great room upstairs. This place has been like Christmas every day for 5 years now.<g> Again, thank you all for the warm welcome. Sleep ye well, when you get there.
