Hi again everybody -- The below message was not sent by Brenda, even though you see her email address as having posted it. I've been cleaning out her emails and making sure that any relevant material in her account gets saved. This one sorta slipped through the cracks. Sorry. Hi everyone, I spoke with Brenda today. She sounded 1000% better than last week. She'll live permanently in a nursing home, not ever to return to her apartment. Her kids have begun to clean it out. Brenda's mood has been lighter than it's been for a long time. The worry of being terminal and alone has now been lifted even though the doctor still gives her a prognosis of no years or months, but day to day. :-( The ascites, last reported as triplet-sized in her stomach, was removed last week -- a total of 28 pounds! Imagine your stomach with an additional 28 pounds over it. Anyway, the doctors' removing it has eased Brenda's breathing significantly and her ability to sit up. Her heart was damaged during the attack last week, but today Brenda is in therapy. And another great piece of news -- Brenda's appetite has returned. yeaaaayyyyyyy! :-) She still isn't back online. As a matter of fact, at this point, she still doesn't have her computer. I'll be calling her tomorrow and will find out what she plans to do regarding her domains and Trails. So, to all of you who prayed for Brenda, those prayers worked! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Please keep her in your thoughts as she continues this struggle. We both thank you profusely for all them all.
If you open your page in a text editor and look close to the top you will see the <body> tag. Yours reads: </head> <body style="background-image: url(wallpaper_1280x1024_1393.png);"> Some of the width comes from the size of your background. I think any graphics editor should let you resize to something smaller. Say 900 by something. For my money I would trim off the right hand side so the watermark is gone first. You can always give them credit at the bottom of the page in your footer. Also, if you look down a bit further you will see: <br><br><br><br><table style="background-color: rgb (255, 204, 153); width: 75%; text-align: left; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" border="20" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2"><tbody><tr><td style="background-color: rgb(255, 204, 153); text-align: center;"><big><big><big><big><big><big><big><big> Colfax County, Nebraska</big></big></big><br><big> Trails to the Past</big></big></big></big></big> </big></td></tr></tbody></table><br><br><br><br> <div style="text-align: center;"> Every "<big>" you see makes the text one size larger. Instead of "<big>/</big>" you you could use <h1> and </h1>. Check it out in Firefox. I now see that in Firefox, the county name at the top is about 5x larger than it is in Internet Explorer 9. This is what I saw the first time, as I rarely use I.E. Looking at the source, this is probably coming from the use of "<big>", as this may be interpreted differently. I would just specify a font-size in the Style or CSS, instead of <big> But even with that updated, there is still a large amount of space between the images and the paragraphs. This pushes everything down. Summit County looked much better, as it had the main navigation up nearer the top of the page. Hello all - I did make some changes, though right now I am using WYSIWYG format... will have to venture in the html world, I suppose, and try what Billie has suggested. Haven't used any code since college, so am a little rusty. Guess its time to get a book or something... :-) Will get back to it later this evening. Once again, my thanks. A few words of what I intend as constructive criticism... I have have a relatively large screen with a high resolution, but I always have my browser sized down to 1/2 the width, so that I can have other windows on the other half. With this size, the only thing I see when I open the site is "Colfa". Everything else is off the screen. In the web design world, the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" often applies. It's comparable to a newspaper -- editors try to maximize the impact of what's above the fold on the front page. If the only thing there were the newspaper title, it would lose attention of passers by. If a visitor doesn't see something that interests them when they first open a site, they're less likely to stay and get something out of it. Here I have to scroll down for what seems like forever, and scroll to the right, to get to the actual content links. Some people who come may not get this far. Keep in mind your audience, and how you can make it easier and more informative for them. Hope this helps. We are off to Wichita for a couple days. Got to do a bit of work at the TV station again. As usual I'll have all my laptops so will still be in contact but not "working". Seems like just yesterday all of us around here were griping about the heat. Highs tomorrow are supposed to barely break fifty. Then warm back up into the seventies next week. It looks real clean and eye catching. However, you have a typo -- last line on the home page -- former Vice President -- you have fromer Vice President. Fat Fingers strikes again, I am sure! Looks like it worked James. Nice page. Recently I liked the format of blog pages, so I started turning cemetery pages into that format. They look good, and get lots of comments, and offers to do transcriptions and take photographs. Thanks for the tip. don ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Albro" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2011 7:06:53 PM Subject: Re: [TTTP] Need Styles Help It doesn't seem to, I tried it on one page just to see. Hello All, Colfax County, Nebraska is now up and running... at least the first few pages! http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~necoltp/index1.html All feedback welcome... have a great night! -- *Jen* *Will you help me fight to end breast cancer forever? Ask me how to make a donation to any of the major, national organizations raising money to find a cure. Support me as I walk, snowshoe, snowboard, and anything else I can do to end this. I want my daughter to read about it in a history book - not in her medical chart. *

How do you move the banner to the bottom of the page? Is it a simple cut-n-past inside the body arguements? don ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Albro" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2011 10:09:02 AM Subject: Re: [TTTP] Need Styles Help Hi Billie, Glad you got er working, but, to answer your question, yes, personally, I've had at least one instance where I had to make an allowance for the rootsweb banners. Building websites by cutting html code can be problematic. I started out with notepad of all things, and had to learn FTP to upload to my website (1996). Then I discovered the free Arachnophilia which was great because you could cut code, then tab to WYSIWYG to see the results. Then I upgraded to a newer version of Windows, and there it was, FRONT PAGE. I was in love. Well, I tried several times to learn CSS, and still work on it occasionally, but after learning html in three days, I still don't comfortably work with CSS. I'll keep trying as it seems able to save time, and saving time we need. don ----- Original Message ----- From: "Billie Walsh" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:11:04 AM Subject: Re: [TTTP] Need Styles Help Never mind. I figured out how to fix it. Still learning how to work with styles. Some days it feels like an uphill battle.
