The articles in the Berrien Co. MI history says the whole family was in Indiana before the move. That would explain John's presence there in 1838. He probably married his girlfriend and started a family before coming to MI to join the rest of the family. I could never identify the county, so that gives me a location to look. I do have a John married to a Nancy Soesbee in Vigo Co. Indiana Jan 18, 1835 - CD 228 FTM. The date is odd though - Either the date for the marraige is wrong, or the 1850 census is wrong as to John's age. TRYON John * marr. SOESBEE Nancy 18-Jan-1835 There are a lot of Vigo Co marraiges - Not all of them are Rowland's kids, but the Edwin may be. Clay Co. is right next to Vigo. TRYON Allen * marr. SANDERLIN Robert * 12-Oct-1837 1840 census had some families already in Vigo, so it might be two families - like cousins/brothers traveling together. Or possibly a connection to NY thru the Sunderlin family. In 1850, a Nelson Tryon age 23 b. NY is a laborer on the farm of Noah Sundalun 35 VT (on page 160 Westfield TWP) RE: Charles E. Tryon - William Henry's write-up uses Charles E, and since he lived at home with William and Mary (according to article), I have always used Charles Edwin as his first name, noting differences. But then, who am I to talk. My grandfather went by George, G.L., George Lucian, Lucian George and Lucian. My mother didn't know his first name was George, but I finally traced his birth cert - George LUCIEN Hall, born in MI in 1867. Most of his census's say NY. Vicki | SNIP | | > John d 235 @28 CT w/ Joanna NJ | John is son of Rowland, bap. 18 Dec 1822, Stamford, Fairfield, CT. | Joanna was probably his first | wife, since he is known to have married Sarah A HUMESTON on 28 July 1878 | in Berrien Co. | According to this 1850 census John was 28, making his birthyear ca. | 1822. | | > Rowland d 235 @60 CT w/ Susanna 54 CT | This, of course, is Rowland again. The age is off - he was actually | born in 1783. Susanna is | Susana EVERETT, b. 15 Apr 1795 in Norwalk CT, d. 27 Mar 1879. Rowland's | first wife, Polly | KNAPP probably died ca. 1816. | | > Wm H. 11 (Grandson? | I cannot account for William H TRYON, unless he is the one reported in | IGI as b. 16 Jun 1838 to | John TRYON + Nancy SALSBER in Clay Co, IN. This John would have to have | been Rowland's | son John listed above in the same census. Rowland and John lived in | adjacent dwellings in | Berrien in that census, so it is possible that William H was more or | less staying with the Rowland | household. But now we have to figure out where all or John's potential | wives fit in: Nancy | SALSBER, Joanna ____, and finally Sarah A HUMESTON. Another problem is | that if the IGI | report is right, William H would have been born to Nancy + John when | John was 16 - and what | was he doing in Indiana? | | SNIP | | > Charles E. Rowland's 2nd wife? who?) | This is probably Phebe Louisa BUDD, wife of Edwin TRYON, son of Rowland. | Edwin was b. abt 1801-1804, making her birth year of 1806 fit right in. | It may be | useful to chase the BUDD family a bit, because Edwin's brother Samuel | (b. 1810) | had a daughter Medaline (b. 1842 MI) who married a William BUDD | (Lockwood Bible). | | | Regards, | | Dan
