Are you one in the same....or are there two people > using the same email?) My Given name is Dennis, but many years ago I was hung with the nickname "Dan". It seems that Easterners can't handle the diminutive "Den" and always misunderstood it as "Dan", so I bent with the wind and accepted it. Professionally I am known as "Dan", but to my High School and College friends I am still "Dennis". So it is a mixed bag. I use "Dan" in genealogical circles for no good reason than that's how I introduced myself!! There is a TRYON interest list you might want to subscribe to. The mail address is TRYON-L@rootsweb.com I think you subscribe the usual way - send EMail with subscribe TRYON-L in the main body. > When it is quoted that Jesse was from Rutland, VT.....I believe that he was > from Rutland Co., VT, and not from the town of Rutland. I have developed a bad habit of referring to county and state only rather that including the town. > In the 1790 census > there is a Elijah Tryon listed also in Rutland Co, Westhaven Township. These TRYONs are accounted for and pretty well known. I am attaching a GEDCOM of the Jesse, Elijah and Elisha branches. Most of the census data is accounted for amongst those three. So far as is known they have no close connection. Elijah (1761-1863) hails from Glastonbury; when he was born his mother died. His father Jeremiah left him (only child) with a great aunt and disappeared. When he was a teenager he took off and ended up in Vermont where he met and married Trubey Priest (1764-1865). His family is well documented. Note that they both exceeded 100 years of age! Elisha (1764-1846) just sort of appears in Vermont and we don't know where he came from. Jesse is supposed to have been born in 1764, so he could very well be brother to Elisha. I will look into this from the Glastonbury perspective. > ... in the 1820 census, Jesse I has moved to Granville Twn, Washington Co, NY (just over the state line from Pawlet, VT). > Both Jesse I's son Dave & Jesse (II) Jr are listed in Pawlet. > > In the 1830 census, I couldn't find Jesse I listed but a David Tryon is > listed as living in Granville Twn, Washington Co, NY and I am assuming that > possibly his parents are living with him. Thanks for pointing this out. Somehow I had missed the Washington county connection. I agree that Jesse is probably living with David in 1830 in Washington Co. > There is a Jesse living in Oneida > Co, Vernon Twn of NY but I think he was from another line. Yes, he is a member of the ABEL branch, well known guy. > I don't have the VT 1850 census records > but am wondering if Jemina left Pawlet and was living elsewhere when she died > as the cemetery doesn't list her name....unless she remarried. I have the 1850 census and will package it up and send it to you - soon :) Wes Tryon in "The Tryon's in America" states without citation that Jemima is buried in Blossem cemetery, Pawlet. Everything that Wes collected is posted on the Tryon Union web page, and I have inherited his work, so don't get excited and think that Jesse is described more completely by Wes. :) No such luck. > I doubt that William was a son of Jesse and that was mainly because he was > not listed in the article about Pawlet. Could he have been a son of Elijah or > Elisha?? He could not be a son of either Elijah or Elisha. I should have stated that the McKnight family lived in Pawlet, about "2 pages of census records" from the Tryons. Such proximity impressed me. I am disappointed that William is not in the "100 years" book, but will still tentatively assign William to Jesse. > It was interesting that you had found Frances Tryon and Socrates Jr listed in > the 1850 CT census. I gather the TAITE family didn't ring a bell with you. I was hoping there was a marriage to a TAITE somewhere. I guess Frances just roomed there waiting for word from her husband. > Wow, this should give you a little bit to 'chew on'. Great! I intend to work on my census records some more to try and fit the Washington County data into Jesse's family. The other information you sent is also very welcome and I thank you. The description of Dennis' family adventures was well received by my wife (I read it out loud to her). I will have to enter the history of her gg-grandmother Laura Ann Tryon Mack and send it on. She also had quite an adventure and had her "15 minutes of fame" on the Erie Canal in 1840. I think I have responded to all your questions (I hope). If not, just ask again!! If it doesn't come through let me know. There are quite a number of letters to pass your way. (Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii) July 23, 1844 No 5 via whale ship Maria Theresa Dear Franny, It is about one month since I wrote to you by an American sloop of war over the landand if it has a quick passageit will reach you about the first of October or November and if the whaleship by which I send this should have a good passage you will get this about the first of March. This is the first bound home sinceI arrived here but they will be leaving this port every week from this winter until next January and contrary to my expecting when I wrote the last I shall come home by some of the last ships that leave. I shall get home some time in July nextin all probability and perhaps sooner at all events. I shall write every month after this so that you will know about what time to look for me and when I start I shall come quick as possible. The reason of my deciding to come home is that since I wrote a Doctor Winslow from Nantucket has come on with his family and concluded to stop here which will of course get some of the business which will not be profitable! for me. I shall undoubtably do a good business at all events support myself handsomely and when I get home I shall go to my farm and spend my life as quickly as possible. My health the same as when I wrote last. I want that someone should attend my apple trees and Fanny you can do as you please about the farm, I do not know where James is, but I heard as soon he would have the place as anybody else and tell him it will make me no difference if I do come home he can have the farm as long as he wants it. The business you must exercise your own judgement concerning it make all the collecting possible. Now I want you all content yourselves as well as possible until I get home which will be some time during next summer without fail, life and health permitting. I have been a long time from home it seems to me to have been five years at least but in all human probability I am on the last half of my time from home and if so fortunate as to get back to Iowa, I shall be very sure to stay as long as I may be (******) to llive. I shall not go to Connecticut on my return home as it would detain mesome days. I may go up to (Beaumont) on account of father's business there so that father had better write to Captain Lamb so that the letter shall be there by the first of March next, directing him how to proceed and me also. Father, you had better write as soon as you get this to Captain Saub. It will detain me but a week to go up to (Belmont) and I shall probably do so and I shall be in a great hurry to get home when I set foot on American soil and may not go to (Belmont). I send this letter by the ship Maria Theresa of New Bedford.. Captain (Fabel) Yours in haste, S.H.Tryon ************* CONTINUED ON PART 4B ***************
