I posted following from a post to Lanark County [ON] Genealogy Soc re a Wm & David TRAILL: Subject: TRAILL Family of Lanark Co Date: Sun, 07 Dec 1997 03:03:33 -0400 From: Don Tryon <detryon@fox.nstn.ca> To: PeterAndersen@easyinternet.net Hello Peter, Saw your note on LCGS re the a/m family and just wanted to confirm that David and William are actually TRAILs. Just a couple of doors over in Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, William and Peter TRYON are early arrivals in the 1820s. A David is in Northumberland, Cramahe in 1840/50. The Tryon family in the US had many misspellings including TRIAL(L) and TRYAL(L), so am just confirming. Regards, Don ======================= Peter Anderson replied: Don: William Traill arrived in Lanark Cty. from Ireland c.1849. Another earlier family of Traills were early arrivals in the Trent Valley/Peterborough area as I recall from a recollection of Catherine Parr Traill and her sister, Susannah Moodie, who wrote the pioneer novel "Roughing it in the bush". They I think were English. Both were talented writers and Catherine was an equally talented artist. As far as I know all these folk came with the name as is. Thnx for your query.
