I don't think that Mattoon is all that close to LaSalle County, but it is in the mid-west. My grandfather Newton Eugene and his brother Allen moved from Tryonville, Pa to Maumee, Ohio and founded the Maumee Valley Elec. Light and Power Co. in 1898. It appears that their father David Washington Tryon married Emma A. Cooke on Jan 5, 1869 in Mattoon, IL. She was the daughter of Sherman T. Cooke and Cornelia Jaqua Cooke. There is at least one Tryon still in Mattoon, but I don't know if he migrated recently or if he has knowledge of family in IL. Cornelia was born in Winstead, Conn. Don't know if this clue will help or not, but it is evidence of a Tryon in IL long before I migrated to it in 1958. Several other Tryons are in Champaign or have been in recent years. The second edition of Wes Tryon's book "The Tryon Family in America" was published with my help. A copy at $25 + $5 S&H can still be ordered from me. It contains seven named Frederick mostly in the 6th and 7th generations since William of Bibury. Good luck, Dick Tryon
